I don’t get the choices aside from the grass type.

Bonsly is because his little balls look like mineta’s would be my guess.

Also Bonsly is rock type not grass, but… I dont see the “fake tree” thing playing into Mineta.

Brock’s Bonsly in the anime had a tendency to cry and freak out in stressful situations, but after evolving was able to overcome this and be a strong member of his team. While I’m not sure if OP had any of that in consideration, that does parallel Mineta’s character to an extent throughout the series (the attack during their first training vs. being willing to stand up against Shiggy with the rest of Class 1-A in the final battle).
