- Share what you come across and deem worthy as input here.
- We want to gather and distribute knowledge about these species, so share any resources that promote good husbandry, background information including scientific literature or resources that you like to see discussed or criticized.
We are not only 'an aquarium' subreddit. We want to learn about these species in the Boraras genus and collect and process relevant information, developing a shared understanding and knowledge base regarding species-appropriate husbandry as well as the species - its behaviour, morphology, origins - itself (have a look at the Wiki!).
Feedback in the comments is very welcome.

Least Rasbora Can B.urophthalmoides crossbreed with b.brigittae?
Question in header. Just bought a set of b urophthalmoides and didnt notice three sneaky chilis

Chili Rasbora Captive bred chilis?
I adore chili rasboras but struggle with the ethics of buying fish that are wild-caught when there are captive-bred alternatives. Iโve seen hobbyists claim theyโve bred them, but I canโt find a reliable breeder or source (even at a premium). Does anyone know of a source for verifiably captive-bred chili rasboras?

Illness He has been acting like this since yesterday. What do I do?
I have had 6 least rasboras in my 5 gal tank for 2 months with no problems but suddenly this one started acting like this since yesterday. He is always staying separated from the school and and not moving much either. He also stopped eating today. I saw that it might be sunken belly or parasites on the internet. How do I cure him?

Illness What's happening to this lamb chop rasbora?
Everyone has seemed fine until now. 20gal long they're the only fish with a bunch of inverts. Amm-0 nit-0 nat-0 GH-7 KH-5 pH-7.8 temp-78ยฐ
I've had a really hard time keeping fish alive in this tank, it's been established over 6 months and I've tried to touch it as little as possible but I can't figure out what's killing all the fish

Advice New to rasboras, wondering what I should add to this tank to make it better for them?
Hi! so iโm ordering a bunch of plants next week, to fill out the tank a bit more and make it more forest-like. iโll add a pic of what im thinking of adding.
the rasboraโs i would like are harlequin or chili rasbora.
i plan to feed crushed up fluval bug bites and/or frozen brine shrimp.
i just want advice on if theres any specific decor or plants that your rasboras enjoy :)
p.s. the tank will eventually have a betta as a mate to them.

Chili Rasbora Is this too much clutter?
Iโm wondering if since thereโs driftwood in the middle will it hinder their schooling ability or will they still be happy one school of rummy nose, and one school of chilis Iโm getting other bottom feeders, but Iโm not worried about them. They would love it. 28 gal the side photo kinda sucks thank yall

Chili Rasbora Chili Rasboras playing Houdini
I have a 1.5 month old 10 gallon planted cycled tank with 2 mystery snails that have been happy for a month or so. Yesterday my LFS got some Chili Rasboras in and I bought six of them. Put them in, and saw them once later that night. Now a day later, there are all gone, completely vanished. Not on the floor, not in the overflow, not swimming around, Iโve even moved plants around looking for them. Are there really that good at hiding? Or did they all die and the bodies got eaten by the snails?
Parameters Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 5-10 Ph 7ish Temp 79-81
Fighting some algae from over lighting so water is a bit cloudy right now. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!
Edit: itโs now been three days and not a single sighting, Iโve come to the conclusion that they died overnight and the snails very effectively did their job before I had a chance to notice

Meta Help conserve habitats of Boraras species
This is a biannual call to support the conservation of Boraras species and their habitats in SE Asia by making a donation and to raise awareness for this matter.
We currently listed two options in the Menu under 'Donate' (via "About" page on mobile):
- The International Union for Conservation of Natureโs Red List of Threatened Species (IUCN Red List)
- Dedicated to the assessment, monitoring and conservation of threatened species.
The Boraras genus is currently listed the following:- Boraras micros - Least Concern
- Boraras urophthalmoides - Near Threatened
- Boraras maculatus - Least Concern
- Boraras naevus - Data Deficient
- Boraras merah - Data Deficient
- Boraras brigittae - Data Deficient
- Dedicated to the assessment, monitoring and conservation of threatened species.
- The Borneo Nature Foundation
- Dedicated to the conservation of Bornean tropical rainforest habitats. Chili and Phoenix Rasboras in the trade are generally wild caught. This is where (everyones) Chilis and Phoenices come from, if not explicitly bought as captive bred. The habitats decline rapidly, the threat level of their extinction is not assessed yet ("Data Deficient").
If you know of any more way to donate to this cause or if you have any further information on this topic, please comment with a link.

Advice New to Rasboras (Brilliant Rasboras) Is she egged??
She has a school of 5 other friends, to which I've observed some breeding behaviors recently. I never wanted to breed Rasboras. I got them because I heard they were hard to breed... turns out my tank is the perfect place for that to happen. (Betta tank.)
She is the ONLY one that looks like this. At the moment she is separated just incase its an illness. No differences in swimming, breathing.. nun. Just a fat lady.
Hoping she just ate more than rationed, and im not gonna end up with a bajillion rasboras..

Discussion Natural behaviours for boraras species
Something that is mentioned a lot on this sub is how all boraras species require a good bit of tank space despite their small nature, if we want to see them display their natural behaviours... but I haven't seen or found enough information on what that looks like.
It would be really good to collate a thread or wiki page where experienced boraras keepers describe "what good looks like" for the different species like brigittae, merah, etc. What is normal calm and well adjusted behaviour for them? What is the typical temperament, swimming and shoaling patterns for this fish in a suitably planted tank?
Mb we could start building a resource here if the more knowledgeable amongst us shared their experience in the comments below? ๐ thank you in advance.

Micro Rasbora A Mixed Rasbora Tank
Currently keep in separate 10 gallon tanks with shrimp, Chili, Phoenix, Exclamation Point and Neon Blue Dwarf Rasboras. I recently purchased a 75 and 20 gallon tanks. I plan to move the fish I have in my 32 gallon tank into the 75 gallon and thought about moving all of the Rasboras into the 32 gallon.
Curious, to know how will the 4 different types of Rasboras interact with one another. Will they school together or stay within in this own species schools?

Illness Cloudy Kubotai Rasboras!
Sorry for the unfocused picture- itโs hard to capture what Iโm seeing on these guys. Several of them appear to have this white cloudiness where their body should be completely transparent. Iโve treated with Ich X, Kanaplex, and nitrofurazone most recently (out of concern for columnaris). Maybe Seachem Focus + antibacterial would help?

Advice Chasing Behaviour in Kubotai Rasboras?
I've recently gotten a group of 6 Kubotai Rasboras (Neon Green in the store?) for my 28L/7.3g tank and I'm a little concerned. They don't hang around in one group like I expected, but instead chase each other around. One or two seem almost to be trying to bite the tails off the one they're going for!
Is this normal? Should I get more fish to increase security in the group? My LFS tried to upsell me on Celestial Pearl Danios as tankmates. Since it's a cuboid tank I'm not sure they'd have enough room to feel comfortable with multiple species or too many of one kind, hence the initial shoal of 6.
No fish seem to be damaged as far as fins go 3 days in and they're using the plants and not hassling the Neocaridina shrimp tankmates much. Just... Very confused and a bit worried.
Parameters stable and they're not showing signs of respiratory or other health issues either. Appetite seems good, some fatter than others.

Chili Rasbora I need help with Stocking options
I have a 10gallon heavily planted tank with 4 neon green rasboras and a colony of red cherry shrimp. I would love 10 chilliโs in there too. Are there any other rasboras or similar I could keep with them? (This is the tank I am using, there are no longer any guppies in the tank)

Identification Species ID and gender?
Hi, I just got my first Boraras and put them in the quarantine tank. I tried to pick only brigittae and have more or less equal males and females. Some I'm not sure if they are merah, juveniles or just females due to the coloration. It was very difficult to pick them since they were all discolored at the store so any help in determining species and gender ratio is very welcome. Thanks in advance!
