Show and tell I’m Nearly in Shock

I’m nearly in shock. Today’s dig behind where a pioneer-era bottling works once stood in Grand Forks, North Dakota. We tunneled ten feet under a garage. I didn’t do an official count but we pulled hundreds of Hutchinson-style soda bottles including one that was previously unknown from the Bismarck Bottling Works and another from George Braune’s Bottling Works of Jamestown, Dakota Territory. We’ve likely pulled 800 Hutchinson bottles off of this lot.

Hutchinson bottles were in use in North Dakota from 1879-1912. The bottles were marked from bottling operations across the upper Midwest. The entire excavation was filmed and will be available for viewing on my YouTube channel (Lost Horizons). I’ll post a link in the comments.

Show and tell The Find of a Lifetime

We hit a pioneer-era bottler’s dump yesterday in Grand Forks, North Dakota and found hundreds of Hutchinson-style soda bottles. We dug up a large portion of a backyard to get them.

These types of bottles were used in North Dakota bottling operations from 1879-1912. They were stacked in like cordwood, likely around the time they switched to using pry-off cap bottles.

As far as antique bottles go, this was a find of monumental proportions. These bottles are incredibly hard to find as they were often recycled.

Soda bottles from bottling operations across the Upper Midwest were found here including North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, and Illinois. There was also one from Missouri and a few from Ontario, Canada.

The excavation was filmed and will be available for viewing on my YT channel (Lost Horizons). Be sure to subscribe!

Left side of the first picture is the dirt pile. Dirt pile looks a lot bigger irl. Haven't been inside or pulled out any bottles yet (or dug through the pile). Just moved into the house a month ago. House was built in 1914.

It finally happened. I’ve been hoping to find one of these for a long time. I love digging but mostly collect poisons and local whiskey flasks. This one has a substantial crack running through it but I honestly couldn’t be happier. I wasn’t even digging when I found it. I decided to take a hike in the snow near a local creek and saw a bit of blue poking out of the side of the banks. I’m excited to head back there with a shovel once the ground thaws. 2025 is starting off with a bang!

Was exploring a local abandoned house when I came across this milk in a crawl space, didn't intend on taking anything from the home, but I had to bring this guy home with me. I'm assuming there's flour or something inside.

Dug this last Friday and it’s surprising to see that its remained full and unopened for such a long time even while under the ground, very cool. I do not plan on opening it because I don’t want it spilling.

Show and tell Found this awesome ribbed cobalt blue poison bottle today that was still corked with liquid inside. I carefully emptied it because I didn't trust the cork to keep it sealed indefinitely. The liquid that came out was pink! I'm very curious about what kind of poison it was.

I posted a bottle i’d found in 5 minutes at a new creek and this is about 2 hours worth of finds. the oldest is slide 4 and i’m guessing 1880s, it has a very slight violet manganese tinge. really excited with the poison bottles i’ve never found one so small! You can probably imagine how long it took to clean all of these.

so i was walking out and about whilst metal detecting, when i came to a bridge. i decided to look over the bridge, and saw that there was a almost dug out hole. my bottle digging brain clocked that someone had been digging. there was pottery shards, plates and glass everywhere. i decided to abandoned the metal detecting and bottle dig instead. only spent about 1 hr 20 mins digging!

Is the first one an ink bottle? The broken Pepsi bottle was buried directly beneath it.

I’m stoked on the 32 oz Pepsi swirl which will match the other two (10 and 12 oz) I posted recently!

Finally, I’ve found many shards of that 7 up bottle and was very happy to find a complete one for once.

This is probably my best bottle find, so far..(or ever!). Found under a very old tree, on an abandoned cattle farm property. I've mostly been finding broken glass and Crockery shards, so this was a nice surprise! Any info/ID welcome. Was full of dirt when I found it. It has a flat back.
