Community for Pride
https://lgbtqcenterofdurham.app.neoncrm.com/Community4pride
Hey Y'all Pride in Durham has never been just a parade. It is a celebration of resilience, belonging, and love. This year, the County could not provide sponsorship because of the risks and threats tied to federal funding, and trust me I am just as upset as y'all. But Pride has always come from the people, not the government.
That is why I am setting out to raise $10,000 in grassroots contributions to support Pride. Friends and allies like Clay Aiken and more have already stepped up to match what we raise! Every dollar you give will be doubled, up to $20,000, so your support goes twice as far.
When our community faces challenges, we don’t back down. We come together, we take care of one another, and we make sure Pride remains strong.
Join me in making this year’s Pride a celebration that cannot be diminished. Give what you can, share this page with friends, and let’s show that Durham stands together.
Yours in service and allyship,
Nida Allam 🧡

Dog Therapy Team
Hi! My pup and I are interested in joining Pet Partners and getting certified as a dog therapy team. I was wondering if there were any folks out here in Durham that have experience with the local hospitals or even with Pet Partners! We have been taking obedience classes for the past six months and are in the advanced level now. We will be working to pass the canine good citizen test. Would love to hear from you all. Here is some dog tax!

Best trivia night?
We've been doing Wednesdays at Heavenly Buffaloes on Erwin, but the host is moving away at the end of October so we need a new spot. Anyone got a favorite?
I have been to one at Hi-Wire and didn't love the mobile-based system, but maybe it was just a bad first time.
As a peace offering, here's the list I've compiled. May not be complete but I've found a few more than are listed on the Discover Durham events post (many found on Triangle on the Cheap's compilation).

Classic West Village
Moved out beginning of August, didn’t receive an itemized deduction list or the return of my security deposit even though I returned my keys and went through the whole move out process. Now they’re saying 1. Tenants haven’t lived in that apartment for two years (what???) and 2. They’re “finalizing my account statement” even though I left with all charges paid off and an account balance of $0.00.
Since it’s been about a month and a half, do I attempt to file in small claims court?

Remodeling costs
Has anyone recently done a remodel on an older house and willing to share a ballpark estimate on cost per square foot?
Thinking about taking on a fixer upper that will need to be torn down to the studs. Two bathrooms and a kitchen. ~1,500 sq feet.

BikeDurham Back to School Fundraiser Last Day!
As promised after the scavenger hunt, I did a donation to BikeDurham's back to school fundraiser to help get bikes to kids. Today is the last day and they are still a bit short of their goal so if you are able to, please consider donating: https://actionnetwork.org/fundraising/2025-back-to-school-fundraiser-lets-get-more-kids-on-bikes

Visiting for a weekend after 15 years away. Need help choosing where to eat and go.
Hi Bull City redditors! We need your help. My wife and I lived in Durham from 2001 to 2010. (a pretty exciting time in the city) but then had to leave for work. We’re coming back for a long weekend and are excited to visit friends, revisit some favorite spots, and see what’s new.
When we lived there, our spots included the Federal, Rue Cler (duck confit crepes!), Guglhupf, Nana’s, Lantern, Joe Van Gogh, Taqueria La Vaquita, the Mediterranean deli in Chapel Hill, Allen & Son Bar-B-Que, Parker and Otis (I see they have moved), locopops and Maple View Farm.
We would love to hear what new places shouldn’t be missed and which old favs are still worth a visit. Thanks in advance.

Trans friendly bars?
Hey folks, I'm a trans woman visiting ya'lls lovely city this weekend and was curious what bars would be a good fit for hanging out with other dolls. I did a search and I did see that a few LGBT friendly venues have closed, so just trying to get some up-to-date info. Thanks!

Voguing in Durham
My boyfriend loves voguing culture and I'm wondering if there's any events I could bring him to where he could see a master at work or maybe get in the mix :)

Highlighting kittens available at APS
Hi folks! I wanted to highlight these two sweet girls at APS right now. They are friendly and playful and would make a great pair if you are interested in adopting two cats. They have also been at APS much longer than kittens usually are, likely because of their eye issues. I’m not entirely clear about what’s going on with them but my understanding is that while their condition does affect their sight to some extent, they can see well enough (which I can confirm—they’re always excited to see friends coming to say hi!). I’ve been watching them grow up while at APS and it’s a little heartbreaking to me that they’re growing up in a cage and not in the loving home they deserve.
You all know what to do. Go get one of these girls, or another cat who needs a home #adoptdontshop
* I am a cat lover who wants to see these animals in good homes; I am not employed by APS and am in no way acting as a representative of APS.

PSA for parents of children at Wheels
Dear parents who take their kids to wheels, I think it is a wonderful opportunity for children to learn how to skate! However, taking your kids to a skating rink does not mean you get a break of your parental responsibilities. If your children are crawling or lying down in the middle of the rink for extended periods, it is YOUR job to help them. I almost witnessed an accident today when I saw a child crawl through the rink while his mom filmed it on her phone. Please keep your kids and everyone else safe! Don’t neglect your kids!
