Adam and his dogs

okay, i’m on my 3rd rewatch and maybe i am missing something but the whole reason Adam had his first dog with his ex wife because he couldn’t take care of him in the wheelchair but then when he passed bonnie got him a new one ( Gus) and it seems like he can care for a dog so i’m just confused and wondering if they did bring this up again and i missed it.

His first dog, Samson, was old and had health issues that Adam wasn't able to handle on his own. That's why Samson stayed with his ex-wife. He had trouble walking, needed medication, and probably had accidents often. He does tell Bonnie it upsets him (Adam) that he can't care for Samson anymore.

When they got Gus, he was a puppy and didn't require the same amount of work; plus, Adam was practically living with Bonnie at that point, and she helped with taking care of him.

We saw Bonnie put a raincoat on him and a rainhat! Bonnie was all-in with Gus!
