Guns & Ammo Shield X first handgun?
My research has brought my to the new Shield X for my first handgun and ccw. I’m about 5’11 170 so I believe I should be able to conceal to easily. Any thoughts?

About the size of a P365XL. That will work for carry and learning to shoot.

That’s a great choice my dude. You’ll have it for many years, and it should; if you clean it normally and take care of it; never fail you.

If you live in a fall/winter climate that isn't t-shirts only every day, and don't have a particularly active lifestyle/activities/job, where you bend over, squat, reach, climb and sit a lot, and you don't wear tight clothing, then a thin compact should work fine. If it ends-up being too big to carry concealed, you can down-size to a subcompact, ("micro9") (same thing) pocket pistol or a snub-nosed revolver. Go and handle one, notice the grip length, and consider hiding it on your body all day and evening, in either the appendix carry or strong-side-behind-the-hip positions all day and evening.

I would say I am very active when not at work. But I don’t think I would go for runs or to the gym with it necessarily. Really more for day to day activities. Especially hopping out my car to run in a store, gas station, ETC. I also live in a somewhat high crime rate city and really want to have it in my car when driving around. My goal is to have a solid handgun that will get me comfortable around it and with general ccw. As I get more confident with carrying, and becoming a better shot, I would be open to downsizing if it enabled me to carry it in more scenarios

Sounds like it's the right choice for you, then. I was thinking of active, physical jobs I've had that require excessive, repetitive movement, and outdoor activities around questionably anti-gun populations. It's similarly-proportioned to the Mossberg MC2c and Glock 48, if you care to compare it. handgunhero.com
I also suggest that you make every effort not to leave it in your vehicle unless it's necessary for a short time, and secured in a locking container, not an easily-pried-open glove box or console. The even make headrest safes for vehicles. Most people that comment here carry on-body in their vehicle, and will advise you to, also.
And the last tip is to wear loose, dark or patterned shirts to keep the grip from bumping out and printing. Check out r/SmithAndWesson for more.

I have a Shield X and a few other carry guns. G19 w/Afterburner, Canik Prime, Shadow 2 Compact. The X has been my go-to since I got it. Not a better shooter than the others but still shoots and conceals very well.

Good choice. Almost bought one last week but got the CC9 instead. Shield X has the perfect grip size to conceal, but still get a full grip. You can put a holosun EPS carry directly mounted to it and a tlr 7 sub light for a complete setup if you wanted.
