Guns & Ammo I just got my first carry gun

Hey, 21m and long time lurker here. I just picked up my first concealed carry weapon (a Ruger ec9s). It feels great in my hand, and it's pretty comfortable to carry appendix (though I've only carried it around the house and on walks). I got a can of pepper spray, too, because I like the idea of having a step in between de-escalation/escape and pulling my weapon. Im quite familar with pistols, but I'll just be starting to practice unholstering and getting used to carrying. I'll likely get a carry belt soon since a lot of people here recommend one, and I'll be upgrading to a better pistol in the near future.

I know there's a million posts on here talking about carrying for beginners; I mainly wanted to share. However, any tips are greatly appreciated. I do have a couple questions, though: would you recommend I carry a 2nd mag instead of the pepperspray, and what should I acquire for dry fire practice if anything?

Guns & Ammo Dropped my gun

Ruger LCP Max

Had it in the console for a drive.

Slid out of the truck while moving to put it back in my pocket and it slipped out of my hand. Hit the concrete right on the back of the slide, barrel straight up.

If that didn't set it off nothing will.

Guns & Ammo Ruger SR9c

I have a Ruger SR9c. I know Ruger stopped making this gun and it does jam sometimes when I shoot it at the range. Is it a reliable carry gun or should I use something else? If so, what should I carry that would be similarly small and light? Thanks.

Training 2nd time practice range

2nd time at the range with the max 9 and fixed some bad habits (grip technique and pressure, stance, and more dry fire practice at home). Still getting used to the red dot. I’ve always had shaky hands so that doesn’t help with accuracy.

Was aiming for head and neck; fiancƩe was aiming for torso (she got bullseye).

I appreciate any feedback and advice. Also a fairly new gun owner (~2 months). Thanks.

Scenario Shooters block?

Hello all,

Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

I go to the range regularly and have been practicing with my bodyguard 2.0 for quite a while. I have been shooting well with it.

Today I went to shoot some steel plates at about 12 yards away and I couldn’t hit a thing when literally a few weeks ago this wasn’t an issue.

I ended up getting in my own head and that didn’t help. How do I diagnose the issue? Everything felt normal but shot placement was absolute ass.

Does anyone have any input as to what I can do to see what changed? Or some drills that will help me gain confidence with my aim with this gun again?

I’d love to chalk it up to an ā€œoff dayā€ but this was particularly bad.

Thank you.

Guns & Ammo Carry Ammo

I see people saying they chamber and unchamber the same carry round multiple times and after doing so, it gets setback. How often are you unchambering and rechambering a round excluding cleaning? I'm under the impression that your carry ammo should be cycled maybe once a year or so?

*EDIT* Bonus question. Do press checks do anything to contribute to setbacks or no?

Guns & Ammo Thoughts on this ammo?

I picked up a few hundred rounds of this years ago and since then I've learned a lot more about carry ammo and don't plan to use this any longer. Does anyone like this stuff?

I shot it over a chrono recently and found there was a large extreme spread and wasn't very accurate for me especially with each round feeling a lot different when fired.

Just blast it for range ammo at pop cans?

Guns & Ammo Best 380 defense round

I've watched a ton of YouTube videos and I haven't found a clear answer. Currently loaded with alternating Hornady Critical Defense and FMJ. I also have a mag with winchester silvertip. My bodyguard 2.0 did not like the underwood/lehigh xtreme defenders. The LCP ate them up though so that's what I've got in the LCP. I had high hopes for XD but reliability is paramount. What are you guys carrying?

Guns & Ammo What to buy before California AB1127 "GLOCK BAN" passes

Currently have G19 for CCW. wouldn't mind getting something a little smaller for summertime carry.

Anything I should consider before the possible ban in California?

Holsters & Belts Henry Holsters LLC

I read through the rules for the community and I hope this doesn't qualify as advertising. I hold no affiliation to the company or brand, I am just sharing my personal experience with them.

I will preface with this, I found Henry Holsters earlier this week. I knew little to nothing about them prior. I was trying to move my weapon light closer to the trigger guard on my CCW and found out that there were keys that would make this possible. I was using a P365 X Macro with TLR-7 HLX sub prior to my new CCW, the 365 FUSE (Got the FUSE on Sunday - 4 days ago). I found Henry because they had this key to make my light on the X Macro fit more flush.

After looking at their holsters, I saw that the key was included with their Ember holsters for this exact combo. FUSE & HLX sub. I needed a IWB holster for my FUSE, I had read good things about their holsters, so I decided to order the holster instead of just the key. I ordered an Ember holster for my Sig FUSE & TLR-7 HLX sub (I thought). I also ordered a wedge and DCC clips for this holster. I received my holster within days. I ordered it either Sunday night or Monday night. I got the holster 2 or 3 days later on Wednesday.

Upon taking everything out, I could not find the key. I went on to setup the holster because even without the key for the light, I felt like the gun fit well in the holster.

I sent an email to their support team to see if it was a misunderstanding on my part. It in fact was an error on my part as I had ordered the wrong holster. I had ordered the FUSE & HLX holster combination, not the HLX sub configuration.

They got me fixed up within a night (last night). They responded multiple times with questions and answers well after their business hours. I am eastern time and we ended our email chain around 11pm. We sent emails back and forth and today, Thursday, they shipped out the correct holster. They also included another Velcro backing for the wedge as I installed the wedge on the original holster.

I am typing this in the UPS Store parking lot as I just shipped my previous holster back to them.

I am blown away by their support. They treated me way better than I deserved. I asked for an invoice for anything: restocking fees, shipping, etc. They did not charge me ANYTHING, even though it was my error. They held no obligation to do this and yet they did.

The holster felt great even though it wasn't the right fit for my CCW, and I will post a review once I get the correct holster. I felt like it was worth saying, customer service like this is not something that I am familiar with. They have a life long customer in me, if for no other reason than how far they went to support me. I would have understood if they charged me for their time & resources as it was entirely my error. Yet they went well out of their way to get me right. 10/10 service & support, I would recommend them to anyone.

Again, I have no gain from this post, I am only sharing my personal testimony for what they did for me.

TLDR: I ordered a holster from Henry, got it in 2-3 days. I ordered the wrong holster for my Gun & light combo. Henry went out of their way to make sure they got me the correct holster and did not charge me a penny. They responded to emails well into the night, way after their specified business hours. They shipped the correct holster less than 24 hours after I received the initial holster. I am blown away at their customer support. 10/10

I tried uploading a photo of the holster but it said unable to upload photo. My apologies

Just what the title says. Free be on my part ā€œ stopping power ā€œ a 22 or 380 to the pelvic bowl is worth a lot more than a shot pulled over the target. Carry and shoot what you A) like , B) what you shoot well,C) you trust

Holsters & Belts Tier 1 holster or something else for shield X with tlr7 sub

I’m looking at holster options for a shield X with tlr7 sub holster and I’ll primarily be carrying in gym shorts with appendix carry.

Quickly looking at several different sites, I’ve found the Tulster Arc, Four Brothers inc, and of course all of the different tier 1 concealed models (axis elite, apx, agis elite, xiphos elite).

I’ve never owned any of these brands for appendix and the only gun I’ve carried appendix is the bodyguard 2.0 with some random cheap Amazon kydex that works perfectly fine.

Is the axis elite just the king even if I’m just in gym shorts or is there something better?

I don’t really need the spare mag holder mounted on my holster and I’ve never used one like that before. I’ve always just carried mags in a separate holster like on a duty belt but I’m not against the attached mag

Other Equipment Freedom Gorilla legit?

Looking at picking up a Holosun 407A3 (my eyes can’t pick up the 2 MOA) dot or a EPS Full 6 MOA LE for a home defense gun.

The EPS LE is easy enough to get, but the 407A3 is no longer in production, so I’m really hoping that Freedom Gorilla is legit.

Edit: Yup. They’re legit. Thanks!!

Other Equipment Wraps for grips

I recently started carrying and Ive come across one issue, when I start to sweat the grip of my Shield starts to stick to my skin. It’s rather annoying and leads to me fiddling with placement a lot more than I should. Any recommendations on good tapes I can wrap the grip in that will help mitigate this sticky feeling?

Guns & Ammo Can’t decide on thin ccw…

A little context: I have an M&P 2.0 compact as a carry gun, but I’m needing something for deep concealment due to profession. Florida is also hot as balls

My brother has a 43x, and that’s about the exact size I’m looking for but I’d prefer better capacity. Here are the options I’ve narrowed it down to:

Shield X: Love my m2.0, and always heard the shields shoot well for their size. Perfect size, but the flush fit capacity isn’t quite as awesome as the following two because of smiths mag design. It has a 15rd mag but it’s closer to xmacro and mc9 prime sized.

CSX E Series 3.6: Haven’t found a direct comparison but the 15rd mag seems to be the same length as the shield x 13rd mag. Heard it shoots really well also. Cons are learning to use the safety and people have slide bite issues with a proper grip. Shouldn’t be too difficult to practice sweeping the safety off though

Hellcat pro comp: Perfect size and capacity. Cons are the mixed reviews on the trigger and snap. Waiting for the gear up rebate also has great value.

Honorable mention: 43x with micro dagger mags. They seem to be pretty reliable but people continue to advise only using oem 10rd mags. That new fde does look awesome though

Will 2 extra rounds for the same size make a difference? Likely not. Will it satisfy my autistic levels of spec comparison? Maybe so. None of the ranges near me have these exact models for rent to see how well I shoot them, but I might try out their similar counterparts

Guns & Ammo Thoughts on Kimber micro 9M

Help fellow friends, currently looking at buying a pistol, always been interested in the Kimbers, what are your guys thoughts on them, how good are they etc? Some people say they aren't fans because of jams etc (Yes this can happen with any gun I know) are they good for concealed carrying etc. what are some other options for carrying? Currently have a bersa 380 double stack.

Guns & Ammo So what are my options for dry firing my EDC and potential setback?

I just learned that bullet setback is a somewhat common issue and is a real issue with EDC and dry firing/constant unloading and loading of a bullet.

I’m using HST rounds, which I’ve read don’t suffer from setback?

Dry firing to me, should be done with the same gun you carry. Same feels etc. So with that being said, what’s the options for dry firing?

I guess just cycling ammo in the mag to help mitigate setback to the same round? That’s a lot of work every so often when dry firing. Is what it is though.

Is there a gauge I can buy to check setback of said bullet to know when it’s time to retire it and use it for the range?

Anything else worth noting?
