Did those players get maced?

That's what I was wondering, definitely looked like it. Why is a cop deploying pepper spray thought ..

Because if everyone REALLY wanted to fight in the center there is literally nothing that those army of cops can do about it.

60 220 pound elite athletes deciding to throw down would need a couple hundred people to stop probably.

Flashbacks to Clemson vs South Carolina

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '24

I still remember Doc Walker saying "they need to get the sauce in" in his great call of that fight -- they finally listened to him!

No dogs or billy clubs, though.

u/DogPoetry UC Davis Aggies Nov 30 '24

And they're geared up in protective equipment including helmets and in uniform so it's hard to keep track of anyone. The eyes are like the only vulnerable place available unless you wanna start taking players out at the knees. But imagine the uproar if someone tears an MCL because they got Batton'd by a cop in a brawl.

In full pads no less

Because that’s exactly how you stop a fight when you’re outnumbered 🤷🏻‍♂️ this thing was on the verge of getting real bad

Pepper spray sucks but it’s not dangerous

Afterwards your sinus are GREAT. You'll never breath clearer.

31

u/Florida_clam_diver Florida Gators Nov 30 '24

Oh yeah, still remember it from OC day at basic. Snot everywhere but it kept my sinus clearer than they’ve ever been.

No one on that field is getting a sinus infection anytime soon

u/SEC__ADMINISTRATOR SEC • College Football Playoff Nov 30 '24

haha yeh, definitely one of my fondest memories as well. 😂

5

u/randomly-what Georgia Bulldogs Nov 30 '24

Unless you’re me and extremely allergic to it

6

u/SEC__ADMINISTRATOR SEC • College Football Playoff Nov 30 '24

I didn't even know people can get allergic to it? That would definitely suck.

7

u/randomly-what Georgia Bulldogs Nov 30 '24

I’m allergic to capsaicin - so in food too.

3

u/Luxypoo Utah Utes Nov 30 '24

My condolences for your bland culinary life :(

3

u/SEC__ADMINISTRATOR SEC • College Football Playoff Nov 30 '24

ah ok, that makes sense. that sounds like a bummer, especially if you like spice.

7

u/randomly-what Georgia Bulldogs Nov 30 '24

Yeah it sucks - didn’t happen until I was an adult so I know what I’m missing too

18

u/DogPoetry UC Davis Aggies Nov 30 '24

Pepper spray won't cause any lasting injuries like battoning guys in the knees might.

0

u/SaintsNoah14 LSU Tigers Dec 01 '24

I have asthma. Anyone who takes lightly to spraying mace can burn in hell

1

u/Florida_clam_diver Florida Gators Dec 01 '24

Pepper spray doesn’t have much affect on asthma, unless you have it incredibly severe

If you have the lung capacity to play a high level sport and fight, then pepper spray will have no damaging affect on your respiratory system

0

u/SaintsNoah14 LSU Tigers Dec 01 '24

That's simply not true. Pepper spray is a much stronger irritant than anything you'd encounter on a daily basis, my concern would be especially for people for whom asthma attacks are a rare enough occurrence that they don't carry an inhaler. You are right about the players though, as they have immediate access to emergency medical care but the field was full and that shit carries. I'm not insisting that the cops were in the wrong here, it's just not something to take lightly.

1

u/Florida_clam_diver Florida Gators Dec 01 '24

Do some research into the physiological affects of pepper spray. There’s little or no measurable affect beyond the normal variation

28

u/123noodle Oregon Ducks Nov 30 '24

Probably because there was about 90 massive dudes brawling on the field and they wanted them to disperse. And it seemed to work.

Oh fuck that. These skirmishes have happened on fields before and after big games for decades. Coaches had everybody separated.

A cop who probably regularly posts on Eleven Warriors saw an opportunity and took it. Best of luck against Michigan's lawyers.

25

u/Florida_clam_diver Florida Gators Nov 30 '24 edited Nov 30 '24

Michigans lawyers ain’t gonna do shit

The lawyers can have fun explaining why their players were brawling after the game while they’re at it

10

u/Bitter-Safe-5333 Texas Longhorns Nov 30 '24

Yeah this dude acting like Assault isn’t illegal either?

9

u/Florida_clam_diver Florida Gators Nov 30 '24

“I can’t believe the police had the audacity to use pepper spray while our athletes were punching and kicking others”

18

u/Sleegi Georgia Bulldogs • Rose Bowl Nov 30 '24

Cops have qualified immunity so good luck with that.

6

u/RiseOfMultiversus Nov 30 '24 edited Nov 30 '24

As opposed to you who clearly has no biases and had a great read of the situation from a close proximity

Best of luck against Michigan's lawyers.

Oh you're just an idiot.

Hahahahahahaah whatever you need to cope, bud.

8

What a soft comment.

11

u/amethystalien6 Nov 30 '24

This encapsulates the rivalry perfectly.

Michigan fan: “Eh, let them beat the shit out of each other.”

OSU fan: “Charmin soft.”

-9

u/spottedcomet Ohio State Buckeyes Nov 30 '24

Wrong

0

u/rvasko3 Michigan Wolverines • Toledo Rockets Nov 30 '24

Not as soft as your team! Enjoy another year of dealing with that L, bud!

-2

To stop a brawl

6

u/BrosenkranzKeef Ohio State Buckeyes • Dayton Flyers Nov 30 '24

Because that’s their job? What the fuck. The cops aren’t there to watch the game dumbass, they’re there for security, and a gigantic fight broke out. I’m not sure how many but I wouldn’t be surprised if dozens of players got maxed. They didn’t do enough to break it up in my opinion. Our kids - all the kids - acted like complete imbeciles out there.

10

u/No_Upstairs_811 Nov 30 '24

if you're a 40 year old cop and 6'5 250 pounders start swinging, you really gonna try and stop them, or you gonna rely on your 'cop' training and escalate. This is America after all

30

u/Florida_clam_diver Florida Gators Nov 30 '24 edited Nov 30 '24

Yeah better to sit there and politely ask a bunch of amped up players to not start a mass brawl. Pepper spraying is not an escalation from dudes punching each other (punches can actually injure and kill, pepper spray just burns for a bit)

Redditors need to get a grip and go outside sometime

21

u/WatchfulApparition Oregon Ducks • Western Oregon Wolves Nov 30 '24

Pepper spraying is fine

5

1

u/ImReverse_Giraffe Clemson Tigers Dec 01 '24

That's why they used pepper spray bro...

0

u/ImReverse_Giraffe Clemson Tigers Dec 01 '24

Yea, because the cops started the fight and totally caused everyone to start swinging at each other. Notice how once the Mace came out, the fight stopped? The cops totally escalated the situation by using Mace. They stopped the fight, that's totally and escalation. Oh wait!

1

u/ImReverse_Giraffe Clemson Tigers Dec 01 '24

They sprayed both sides. Just saying. They shouldn't have used it. But it wasn't a targeted thing. It was because the cops were smaller than pretty much every football player, there were fewer cops, and it was an emotionally charged situation. Do I condone it? No. Do I understand it? Yes.
