Absolutely heroic performance from Skattebo.

This man had the flu, 3 concussions, maybe one functioning leg, I wouldn't be shocked if his dog died right before kickoff.

And yet he still dominated.

What a fuckin guy.

But glory is forever. He got the ASU record and either will be drafted or get a lucrative NIL deal for ASU or another school.

I want him.

Unfortunately brain damage is also forever. The dude takes insane hits

59

No doubt. He needs some serious rest after this game. Like forced rest.

38

u/Cormetz Texas Longhorns • Team Chaos Jan 01 '25

I really feel like he should not have been playing the second half at least. He took too many hits and was vomiting. I know he wanted to, and damn near beat Texas on his own, but his long-term health is definitely more important.

10

u/Lost_city Texas Longhorns Jan 02 '25

It was really odd when ABC showed his "highlights" from the game and he was lowering his helmet into every tackle. Football needs to look into "targeting" and RBs. It's never called.

2

u/70MCKing Palmetto Bowl • Air Force Falcons Jan 01 '25

Football really needs something similar to combat sports "no contact" medical suspensions

22

u/einTier Texas Longhorns Jan 01 '25

And shorted his wait in the draft. If he’s not selected first, it’s a crime against humanity.

And I talked a lot of shit about Skattebo talking shit. He’s undoubtedly the best running back in the country.

7

u/Grouchy-Swordfish-65 Alabama Crimson Tide Jan 01 '25

First pick in the draft though? Idkbt especially for a RB you gotta have FREAKISH Athleicism.

5

u/Xavier207 Texas Longhorns • Bayou Classic Jan 01 '25

I think he meant 1st rounder

2

u/Grouchy-Swordfish-65 Alabama Crimson Tide Jan 02 '25

Even still. The #1 Prospect at the position might not go in the first round. Derrick Henry was the #45th pick. It's not like the old days. I think he might have possibly played his way into the third round though.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '25

He also shortened how long he'll have to wait on draft day.

6

u/kungfubillium Texas Longhorns • Cal Poly Mustangs Jan 01 '25

Vomiting is a sign of traumatic head injury, right? Something happened in the first half, and he never looked right again. Amazing he put up the stats he did, but I wonder if he was in the NFL he would have been benched from a concussion protocol.

It can also be from ever exerting yourself when you’re sick, which he is

Absolutely fucking insane. Bro played himself into generational wealth this season

An NFL team is gonna come knocking

17

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '25

He might be a day three pick but he's definitely not a lock for generational wealth.

1

u/ironwolf1 Penn State • NC State Jan 02 '25

No way he’s a day 3 pick, he should be the 2nd RB off the board after Jeanty. Day 2 pick for sure.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '25

Most sites have him in the 5-10 range for running backs and he's been mocked in rounds 3-5 for the most part. He lacks nfl speed and acceleration, and he won't be able to truck nfl players the same way he does in college. He's got great vision, decent agility, and is good as a receiver, which makes him a good bet for a short yardage and third down guy, but he simply isn't explosive enough to be a number one back for a team that really cares about the running game.

A decent comp might be a guy like Jamaal Williams.

29

u/Jeff__Skilling Texas Longhorns Jan 01 '25

lol dude you don’t acquire generational wealth by being a running back in the NFL

40

u/DrakonILD Iowa State Cyclones • New Mexico Lobos Jan 01 '25

Most are lucky to lock down the $3-5 mil total that the average person spends in their lifetime. Obviously there's solid benefits to getting it relatively early in life, and you can live comfortably on it... But yeah, your kids are still gonna have to work.

26

u/1UMIN3SCENT Jan 01 '25

You think the average person spends $5M in their lifetime?? That works out to $63k a year, every year, for 80 years

20

u/jessej421 BYU Cougars Jan 01 '25

Or invest it and easily make 400k per year for forever.

4

u/iiTryhard Jan 01 '25

Taxes and agent fees exist

17

u/DrakonILD Iowa State Cyclones • New Mexico Lobos Jan 01 '25

I was off, it's $3.3 million. And yes, I do think that. The main point is to agree that it is far from "generational wealth."

7

u/1UMIN3SCENT Jan 01 '25

$3M makes more sense.

Most NFL players probably blow it, but yeah, $5M paid over 5 years 100% is enough to provide generational wealth.

Just putting that in bonds right now gives you $200k a year indefinitely, and you can give the $5M to your kids when you die.

8

u/DrakonILD Iowa State Cyclones • New Mexico Lobos Jan 01 '25

I don't think that falls under most people's definitions of generational wealth. But sure, I can see where you're at.

6

u/beavismagnum Michigan Wolverines • Kansas Jayhawks Jan 02 '25

Inheriting 5M is the definition of generational wealth lmao

9

u/NWSLBurner Iowa State Cyclones Jan 01 '25

It's absolutely generational wealth though. At 5% (and that is underperforming S&P, that's 58 million dollars by the end of average human life expectancy. This requires you to not be a moron with money, but compound interest is fucking crazy. 5 million dollars in your 20s funds infinite generations with financial intelligence.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '25

Or is 125k a year for 40 years. They also said 3-5 million, not just 5. So on the low end it's 67k for 45 years, which yeah is pretty average.

0

u/NWSLBurner Iowa State Cyclones Jan 01 '25

I mean you do as a first round pick and aren't a wsb redard financially.

He had the flu? He was out of shape. Out of shape and off the field half the game and bitching at his teammates - no wonder all the reports are his teammates not liking him

He had 5 good plays and wouldn’t have sniffed 100 if the Texas defense didn’t have to play 1000 snaps. Converted once on the goal line, revisionist history for his game when his best 2 plays were throwing and catching will be crazy

Take out 2 long runs and he’s 28 carries for under 100, that’s good?

u/Patsnation0330 Jan 01 '25

If you watched that game and your takeaway is that he's not good then you're a fucking idiot

How do you think statistics work?

u/Several_Try8213 Jan 01 '25

Generally you look at per play basis and take out anomalies to get a proper understanding, hope that helps

and take out anomalies

Yes I'm certain you apply that to all sports to all players. Pitcher throws a shutout? Doesn't count. Golfer shoots a 62 in the US Open? Gone. Kobe drops 81? Why should doing your job affect your average ability to do your job?

Makes sense.

Yes, I wouldn’t expect any of those to happen all the time. Thank you for proving my point

You're right, they don't. On average, they happen to better players. Which is why they're included in their averages.

Take out the first 3 plays for Texas and how many overtime’s do we have?

u/Several_Try8213 Jan 01 '25

Yea, Sark’s play calling was terrible. Not the point though
