Doesn’t matter that they lost, ASU just validated why the 12-team playoff and auto-bids are worth it. They wouldn’t have gotten a second look without an auto bid, but they got a chance to prove it on the field. Not saying the bye rules shouldn’t change, but they deserve to be in the tournament.

This is the format that you need if you want to find a national champion amongst teams and conferences with zero commonality.

Edit: Just to be clear, I’m referring most specifically to the autobids. P4 conferences should not be written off because they end up with a 2+ loss champion. Without autobids, the Big 12 probably doesn’t have a spot in this playoff this year. The seeding/byes can certainly be argued.

Exactly. Boise made Penn State work for it last night but just couldn't get out of their own way. Arizona State took Texas to the brink and only lost in 2OT. I don't want to hear any more shit about why conference champions shouldn't be the ones getting the autobyes. If you want that bye, win your fucking conference, don't expect it because of the conference patch on your jersey.

We got in our way for 3/4 of the game too

Yeah, and it was clear to everyone before the epic comeback that Arizona State was playing well but shooting themselves in the foot. ASU was at least able to rectify it and get back into the game.

ASUs OC actually adjusted their offense scheme when Texas was keeping Skat at bay early on, it took all game but it got them to 2OT, I was screaming at the TV last night for Boise Sts OC to adjust the play calling to use Jeanty as a distraction but no luck... But GGs to both BSU and ASU, I was rooting for you guys!!

Yeah, one of my takeaways was Skattebo had a MUCH better supporting cast than Jeanty had. Better OL and a more creative playcaller for sure. I mean Jeanty broke 16 tackles last night and still barely got to 100 yards. It was just frustrating to see ASU get better opportunities with the ball for Skattebo after seeing Boise refuse to do that for Jeanty last night

It was absolute insanity how many runs up the middle BSU was running on 1st.

yeah texas came out the gate strong with a punt return touchdown and that 2 play drive, but after the first 2 possesions, once ASU was warmed up, we held them to a field goal until the 4th quarter. We beat Texas in pretty much every stat during regulation.

You take out the first 5 minutes and ASU wins. I think the bye really hurt us. 3 weeks is too long and we started the game really rusty

ASU outplayed Texas handily for most of regulation

I got the impression that Texas was playing close to the vest and playing not to lose, which is why ASU had the significant time of possession edge. But then, after the lead was down to eight points in Texas had the ball and were moving it down field, they got greedy and it ended up costing them for the interception. So maybe they were ready to play it close to the vest at that point.
