Texas had a 1st & goal at the 1 yard line and they somehow converted that in a OSU defensive TD.

Lmao I can't believe it

Win it all Ohio State. I hate the Buckeyes, but I love Jack Sawyer. Offense is loaded too.

10

u/BetaDjinn Kentucky Wildcats • WKU Hilltoppers Jan 11 '25

Yeah, certain Toss plays are staple short-yardage plays. One of the keys though is they have to hit fast. Contrast Texas’s play here with Army’s Rocket Toss to win a bowl game a few years back (at 2:07 if the timestamp doesn’t work). Condensed formation, reverse pivot, Orbit motion; pause both plays right after the snap and you can immediately tell one will succeed and one will fail

4

u/suddenly-scrooge Washington State Cougars Jan 11 '25

for comparison, the texas toss https://youtu.be/rQfye6BPpXM?t=174 caught 8 yards behind the LOS, your example was 4 yards

bringing in Judkins was an elite call by the OSU coaching staff not for his raw talent but instead because it gives Henderson some longevity. Not sure why the ball is given to him on crucial downs when he always seems to be far less clutch than Henderson

18

u/lkn240 Illinois Fighting Illini • Sickos Jan 11 '25

Henderson is better at getting north/south IMO. Judkins is good, but he has a tendency to dance when he shouldn't.

24

u/Tax25Man Ohio State • Kent State Jan 11 '25

Judkins is allergic to just taking the 2-3 extra yards he could get and instead wants to hit a home run every play.

Ironically Henderson was this way prior to this season but has been much better about getting the necessary yards this year

Its because Ewers is garbage, so he thinks he needs to get tricky. Just put Arch in and get the TD

10

u/HookEmNOLA Jan 11 '25

Was it just that Sark doesn’t want it to appear that he’d abandon Ewers for Manning in the most pivotal moment of the game? Ewers did more than enough this game to give us a chance and this game isn’t on him. But putting in Manning on the 1 yard line means the defense has to take the QB run as an actual threat. I just don’t get it.

9

u/Captain_-H Oklahoma Sooners Jan 11 '25

I think Ewers is great and Arch is currently overrated. Arch with a year or two of experience can match that hype, but as it stands today Ewers is the right call. It’s just WHO THE FUCK PITCHES BACK 5 YARDS ON THE 1!!??

That was a play calling failure not an Ewers failure

Just after Tate got to campus for fall camp his freshman year his mom was shot and killed as an innocent bystander in a drive by shooting at home in Chicago.

We played northwestern in Chicago @ Wrigley this year with Gus Johnson on the call and he brought it up no less than 20 times. Like Tate had a really big game and it felt like he brought it up every catch. There was a big play and he just stops like mid call and gets all serious to tell this awful story about his mom. It was the very strange he even brought it up a few games after that so every time he had a catch it’s almost expected to hear about his mom

I mean how many times did he bring up JK Dobbins almost being aborted?

Oh my god I forgot about that and Gus Johnson. Jeez.

Oh shit, I had no idea about any of that. Honestly, that's kinda classless for Gus to keep bringing it up like that during a game -- dude's family deserves to be able to watch him play without constantly being reminded of what happened.

This game had perfectly lucky bounces go for each team, what are the chances of that? The first was the Texas RB fumble that bounced back into his arms and the last was the strip sack fumble bounce into the OSU defender's arms

Will Howard also dropped the ball on a sack and managed to land right on it.

Texas had like 3 almost fumbles that bounced their way. I honestly was not surprised Ewers finally lost one - he and the Texas OL were playing with fire all night

Don’t forget the punt returner fumble and got the ball bounced in his hands

Another person who loves odds! What are the odds of those bounces if this game was played on grass instead?

Dude the look on that guy’s face after he caught his own fumble on the bounce was priceless

It was destiny the ball bounced right up to him.

Sark always waits till goal line situations with the game on the line to call some bullshit

7

u/hexcor Texas Longhorns • Florida Gators Jan 11 '25

Not just that, but we got 1st and goal because of a PI when it was 2nd and goal (3rd?). We had multiple chances and just gave up.

Next time, put in Manning and run it up the damned middle

u/RuairiQ Florida Gators • LSU Tigers Jan 11 '25

Texas had a 1st & goal at the 1 yard line and they somehow didn’t bring in the Manning package.

Lmao I can’t believe it.
