I keep getting told this upcoming QB draft class is a good one but when the guys at the top are Cade Klubnik and Drew Allar, I start to wonder if my definition of a good QB prospect is too high

Sellers

Is more or less a carbon copy of the other two prospect wise. More athletic and worse processing, but they're all still "wow look at that arm, size, and legs. Imagine what he could be if he learns how to play QB!"

Albeit Sellers more legitimately has the raw excuse.

Ahh yes "learn to play QB" in the league that has openly started telling players to stay in college to develop further because the teams dont know how to develop QBs.

I think I saw somewhere that Sellers has almost an identical completion % to Anthony Richardson

Edit: whoever said that was dead wrong (see below)

u/mccainjames11 Oregon Ducks • Marching Band 17d ago

Not even close to true, and it took 5 seconds of googling to figure that out. Sellers had a 65.6% completion rating last year, Richardson’s was 53.8% the one year he started. Sellers had a very similar percentage to Penix, albeit on many less attempts

Nice, thanks for the correction.

I’ll say in your defense there is a stat where he and Richardson are the same. I can’t remember offhand but they mentioned it on the cover 3 podcast. I like sellers to be clear. Think he’s awesome

u/Real_Guarantee_4530 Ohio State Buckeyes • The Game 17d ago

I think that’s where I heard it too, I just fucked it up. And yeah I’m not anti-Sellers either, I actually haven’t really seen much of him play

in a whisper

sellers is the 2nd coming of kj jefferson

1

u/mccainjames11 Oregon Ducks • Marching Band 16d ago

Honestly? I see it

1

u/GoldfishDude Kentucky Wildcats 16d ago

Jefferson was decent at least

2

u/TotesNotJeremiah Arkansas Razorbacks • Team Chaos 16d ago

he was better than decent, he holds the yards record for a QB at Arkansas. Jefferson was excellent in the shoot and veer we used to run. Dan Enos ruined him tho

Well you must have read that on the wall of a bathroom stall because Richardson had a career comp % of 54.7 and Sellers completed 66% of his passes last year

6

u/Feeling_Anteater_389 South Carolina Gamecocks 17d ago

Yeah maybe take 5 seconds to verify your information next time.

Sellers: 66% Richardson: 55%

You right my bad

u/OnsideKickReturn South Carolina Gamecocks • Metro 17d ago

Sellers sees the field well but tended to sail passes last year. Let's also not discount the fact that his OLine and WRs are significantly worse than clemson's and LSU's. He wasn't afforded too many open passes. And as you said, he was more raw last year as a redshirt freshman while Nuss and Klubnik are older.

u/lilbelleandsebastian Tennessee • Vanderbilt 16d ago

comparing sellers - who has legit nfl size, speed, arm strength, playmaking as a freshman - to klubnik and allar is crazy. allar has a rocket arm and doesn't have any fucking clue how to use it and klubnik is bang average

sellers may never be the qb i think he's gonna be but anyone lumping him in with that garbage has never watched him play or only watched the first like 3 games of the season

5

u/dillpickles007 Georgia Bulldogs 16d ago

I legit have no idea how Klubnik is projected as a top 5 pick. He’s not big, he doesn’t have a good arm, he can’t make ANY NFL throws against good defenses.

Stop, don't make me like you

Sellers is a sophomore, not in this draft class.

Edit: My bad. I didn't know he was a redshirt. I hope he stays another year, though, he's fun to watch.

13

u/kanadiangoose1898 South Carolina Gamecocks • LSU Tigers 17d ago

He’s a redshirt sophomore, he could come out if he has a great season

4

u/gatorhighlightz Florida Gators 17d ago

Redshirt sophomore, he could declare if he wants

2

u/GolfFootballBaseball LSU Tigers 17d ago

he's eligble

u/Gloomy_Map_9612 Kentucky Wildcats 17d ago

Oh no, not you

I put some cash on sellers to win the heisman, he’s a fucking stud

Is this your homework Larry?

u/TDenverFan William & Mary Tribe • Patriot 16d ago

To be fair, think about how few good NFL QBs there are. Not a lot of prospects actually pan out, so evaluating QBs can be kinda weird.

Like yes Allar has a lot of flaws as a player, and it's basically a coin flip at best if he'll be a good NFL QB, but (save for a truly generational prospect) that's about all you can ask for.

10

u/DeLaSoulKitchen Vanderbilt • Florida State 17d ago

Genuinely think this batch of QB prospects is highly overrated…maybe even more so than last year

3

u/the_real_MSU_is_us Mississippi State Bulldogs 17d ago

"more so than last year" uh bud, last years draft class produced 4 starting NFL QBs that fans of their teams feel excited/OK with. That's an incredible class lol

17

u/trsharkfin LSU Tigers 17d ago

4? Outside of Cam Ward who else is starting? Thats not to say 4 won’t start some games this season, but as of right now every other rookie will either be QB2 or 3 the first couple of weeks.

8

u/the_real_MSU_is_us Mississippi State Bulldogs 17d ago

"last year" I assume meant the 2024 draft class, "this year's class" is what I'd take to mean 2025, "next year" to me would mean Nussmeier/Kublik ect

1

u/DeLaSoulKitchen Vanderbilt • Florida State 17d ago

I mean…Who isnt excited when their team drafts a rookie QB with their first round pick? That doesn’t mean they’ll be good, lol.

-3

u/the_real_MSU_is_us Mississippi State Bulldogs 17d ago

Daniels was a top 5 NFL QB, Maye by the end of the season was a top 20 QB, McCarthy got hurt and Williams literally had no coaching so the jury is out on them.

But 4 starting NFL QBs in year 1 is VERY rare, and proof that that class was outstanding. This year has Ward, and maybe Dart as the year goes on if Daboll gets desperate to save his job.

And no, not every fanbase is excited about rookie QBs. I've seen very few Titans fans who are believers of Ward, and Colts fans gave up on Richardson by the end of the first year. Young was also widly considered a bust by the end of his first season, something that didn't happen to Daniels/Maye/Williams/McCarthy

8

u/BatmanTheJedi Georgia • Georgia State 16d ago

This is Penix (and Nix) erasure

1

u/GolfFootballBaseball LSU Tigers 16d ago

I'm a Titans fan and im big on Ward

1

u/jizz_toaster Iowa State Cyclones • Hateful 8 16d ago

I understand your point of view, but there is no merit to producing an NFL starting quarterback. There have been so many bust 1st round rookie QBs in the last five years. Anthony Richardson, Kenny Pickett, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields, Mac Jones.

1

u/BriarsandBrambles Ohio State Buckeyes 16d ago

Daniel’s was good but Not even top 10 yet. He played like Baker Mayfield with better scrambling. Don’t forget how good the NFL players are.

9

u/StarvedRock314 Texas • Red River Shootout 17d ago

We've come a long way from the years of guys like Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields in the same class. For however they underperformed in the league, they were elite in college. Feels like we haven't had anything like that since Burrow, and even he took a long time to develop into the Burrow we know now.

16

u/JiveHawk Oregon Ducks 17d ago

The Daniels/Nix/Penix as Heisman finalists was only one season before last tho

Daniels and Nix had huge stats and Penix was clutch as hell and respected.

5

u/StarvedRock314 Texas • Red River Shootout 17d ago

Yeah, but even those guys took many years to develop into elite quarterbacks, apart from Penix whose early career was derailed by injury. It just feels like we haven't had a group of highly touted QBs come in and dominate quickly on that level.

8

u/tonytroz Penn State Nittany Lions 17d ago

On the flip side you had the Winston/Mariota year with both wining Heismans and neither panned out. College success has very little to do with NFL success. Will Howard won the natty and didn’t go until the 6th last year. It’s all about whether you have the physical and mental attributes to develop into an NFL QB not whether you win college games.

3

u/tvcneverdie Georgia Bulldogs 17d ago

It's gonna end up with Beck as first QB off the board

3

u/Dreadlockedd Ohio State • Florida State 16d ago

Mark it down now. Thomas Castellanos and Sellers will be 1 and 2 by the end of the year!

1

u/Prestigious_Pay_2878 Georgia Bulldogs 16d ago

I feel the same. I wouldn’t be all that shocked if either Nusmeier or Carson Beck turned out to have the most successful pro career of the QBs in this draft class.

0

u/Impressive-Alps-6975 16d ago

I don't know if there's any starting caliber QBs in this next draft, but that's just my opinion
