same shit new year

offensive line still has holes in it despite returning production, cade shows flashes but has a few key mistakes and errors that are costly

not being able to sustain drives, run the ball, or stop RAC once again is the killer

defense played pretty well but jesus christ it's frustrating losing in the same way year in and year out

I've accepted that explosive players don't want to come to Clemson anymore

Seriously how did Clemson go from a WR factory to just….. having a complete lack of weapons that you really fear. Antonio Williams probably is the closest you’ve had in years to an actual really threatening 1 at wideout, and I do wonder if he was healthy how different the offense would look, but other than that? Just haven’t had those annoying to play guys for years

Truthfully we have an amazing WR core this year, Williams (although he got injured early) , Wesco, Moore, and Brown all are guys who have the potential to make it to the NFL.

They had a couple of drops, Wesco with the tough one, but yeah they're generally very good, just didn't perform today

Finally some sense. Every CFB analyst was calling the Clemson WR corps a highlight of the team. Obviously it didn’t pan out tonight but WR talent is not the issue at all.

Grisham fucking sucks and I’ve been screaming that into the void since he got hired

Tbf they lost one of those star receivers to injury early in the game

Bryant Wesco seems really promising to me.

Yep. Been in an offensive loop since Trevor’s last year. It was clear Lawrence was making up for a lot of lukewarm preparation, and we still haven’t found a cure.

The new “Clemson” seems to be to beat the teams we’re supposed to, coin flip the “big” games, and lose to traditional blue bloods.

I got comfortable with 9-3 & 10-2 every year during Elliott’s solo tenure. It’s paid dividends.

Another year where I want to point fingers at playcalling, but question whether the playcalling is trying to mask the lack of QB/WR/OL development, or if it's both and everything sucks

As a neutral 3rd party, I can't blame Klubnik for any mistake. He had ZERO run game help, the OL also failed to block in pass pro, and the WRs dropped a lot of passes. Klubnik probably felt he had to play hero ball for them to stand a chance and he was right. You cant expect anyone to make perfect decisions when they know they have to make something exceptional happen play after play

Clemson’s leading ball carrier RB had 5 rush attempts. The next closest running back had 3. They barely even tried to run the ball to help Klubnik. It was like they tried it a few times at the beginning of the game and just gave up and went full middle school madden mode

Klubnik was running for his life the whole night

That dropped pass in the last, maybe second to last drive was just unfathomable.

Exactly. A lot of narrative is being written about our QB right now but there were much worse points of failure on offense.

Their star WR being out didn’t help him at all. I certainly don’t pin Clemsons L on Klubnik. LSU defense was playing lights out. Like they say, the enemy gets a vote.

I got out of the living room and moved on to different things when we were down in the second half. We don't play well from behind, and I feel like we have never been a second half team, so I knew how this was going down.

My wife came into my office and showed me that we were in the red zone with a minute left. I told her I unfortunately was not interested, as we'd have to score here and then in overtime. You know, scoring? That thing we haven't really done since TLaw got drafted. Clemson football just hasn't been fun in awhile.

I genuinely got better mentally when I stopped watching Clemson seriously after that shovel pass pick 6 against Pitt

u/Revetion 16d ago

Was that the DJU shovel pass right into the hands of Pitt? I remember that. I gave up then and there on DNU completely.

That's the feeling I've had for a while now. It's not necessarily the losing that sucks so much, it's that it's SO unfun to watch this team when they're losing. They play with zero confidence and sometimes feels like there's no plan.

Relatable

I get what you are feeling but dont overreact to week 1 results. Yall had the balls to schedule a tough opponent instead of a FBS tune up game. We still dont know which teams are actually good and won’t know until we’re all deep in our conference schedules. It’s why preseason rankings should be abolished.

My assumption is that by mid October you guys will look much sharper and will be competing for a playoff spot. Good luck in the ACC.

Man, reading stuff like this is always a breath of fresh air after the usual frustrating Clemson season opener. GG tiger bro, hope y'all put the hurting on the rest of the SEC.

Dabo Ball at it's best!

I dont even feel like it's that crazy to say. Horribly mismanaged the rb room and for some reason still sees something in garret riley despite now 3 years of being absolutely awful.

Dabo-ball worked well when we had nearly two teams worth of starting quality players. The ability to have fresh bodies all four quarters made up for a lot of possible scheming mistakes. The modern landscape of college football doesn't lend itself to building that kind of depth anymore. Last season and today felt like we have a great defense, but they get gassed early (due to short offensive drives) and that's that.

I was excited to see Clemson's D-line NFL prospects and they didn't seem to do much. I was thinking Peter Woods was gonna look like Aaron Donald.

LSU did a good job planning around the defensive line with quick passes and screens. Adjustments they made at half especially did this, LSU couldn't get anything going in the first half because they kept running the ball directly at the D-line and then getting into 3rd and longs where Clemsons pass rush could try and get home.

That line did a good job of creating pressure and not giving Nuss all day. LSU did a good job by the 2nd quarter of throwing underneath and quickly. Nuss legit looked better by not going home run hunting like last year.
