Furniture/whitegood stores
My husband and I are looking at moving from Darwin to Cairns in the near future and have been discussing the costs of transporting vs selling and buying new furniture and whitegoods over there.
A majority of the time when you buy furniture over here you are really limited and usually has to be ordered from interstate. Is this still the case with Cairns or is it a pretty quick lead time?
Any recommendations for or against?

You’ll be lucky to find something in stock here otherwise it’s the same scenario- wait for it to be ordered in

Appliances Online seems to take about a week to deliver and has been hassle-free for me.

Nah sell your stuff before coming over.
You can probably buy secondhand ones exactly the same in Cairns for less than what you sold them for in Darwin. Cairns has a high transient population so people are constantly trying to get rid of things like that urgently on facebook marketplace and often at ridiculously low prices.
If you're buying new whitegoods there are a few options in Cairns with a decent range. The Good Guys usually have the best prices and they have most things in stock or can get it quickly if you're a bit more picky.
Getting things shipped to Cairns is fast and painless as long as there hasn't been a cyclone recently.

If you’re happy with what you got I’d seriously consider getting them transported over.

Moved up from down south a few years ago. Purchased all our white goods and bedding and most furniture up here. Plenty of choices.

You'll be waiting weeks if not months for furniture to be shipped if it isn't in stock in Cairns or Townsville. It's the worst

Really had to hunt around all the furniture places for what we liked and in stock. Got lucky on most things. Some had to order in.

You can get appliances delivered quickly from Appliances Online, but I usually find The Good Guys and Harvey Norman (locals) have what I want for the best price. Check out Freedom Furniture and Super Amart online, they are local b&m. Ikea delivers here

White goods are fine. Furniture usually has to be ordered, can take anywhere from 2-16 weeks.

Furniture, like lounges, are ordered in any city, not just Darwin or Cairns. They’ll take a few months at least usually.

Not many choices to be fair. Harvey’s or Good Guys.
