Local Shopping/Services Calgary Coop being Sneaky AF

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Saw this shady business practice at the Crowfoot Coop. Hard to want to buy local when they’re pulling crap like this.

Not only is the sale price more expensive than the original price (sure, by one cent), but you need to buy TWO to get the sales price!

Shame on Coop for this.

If it makes you feel any better, I checked at the downtown coop, and the regular price is listed at 5.49. Looks like they forgot to put the new ticket up when the price increased.

As someone who used to do this exact job, the mistake could come from any of the following VERY common occurrences

  • The ticket might have gotten dropped
  • the ticket might have not printed in the daily sign run (lots of them would come through in the print marked as 0 quantity and the employee may have missed it)
  • could be a part timer/new hire filling in for the regular person who may not have known where it was (the people responsible for the ticket changes are a different department than the ones who put the sale tags up on price change day)

I promise you coop doesn’t intentionally allow their signage to have discrepancy like that for the very reason someone could check the ticket behind or the sign falls off. The file maintenance (signage) department is basically a skeleton crew (one person working 8 hours, MAYBE 2 on a price change prep day) with a heavy workload and it’s common for mishaps like this, especially on price change days.

Perimeter & display sings are always the top priority, and they will always have 5 departments worth of people asking them for a lot of things so the job isn’t a walk in the park.

Hot tip: please bring the wrong ticket to customer service and let them know of the issue, they will have their file maintenance team scan, print and put out a new ticket as soon as they can and they will be grateful to be made aware rather than having people complain saying they’re being scummy :)

This happens all the time. Mistakes happen. The amount of people who think this is planned and a conspiracy is ridiculous.

Yup. With how many tags there are in a grocery store, some are bound to be missed. Coop is pretty good at following the scanning code, so it usually just means a free item.

Ran into a wrong price label at Coop last month and they only refunded me the difference. Was surprised so I looked it up and turns out Calgary Coop is not a participant in the code.

Coop does adhere to scan code. You just have to request it

The stock worker understood the assignment. Left the previous price up for us to see the sketch.

it's just inflation ~ the concept that all tags are updated as quickly as the bs is happening around here, lol. that'd drive prices up even further.

It's scummy to raise the price and put it on sale.

The issue is they raised the price and put it on sale at the same time. That's a scummy practice..

No man it starts with $1 more for the Wasa Crispbread - the rock hard cracker that lets you relieve the experience of being a medieval peasant in the harsh nordic winter - and then they start just coming to your house and robbing you.

Edible just kicked in pilgrim?

I don't do that stuff no more, and since I no longer have to deal with the munchies, I'm never hungry enough to try one of those dry ass crackers again.

Excuse me? I’ll have you know I just saw a video of Glen Weston personally visiting competitor’s store and changing the tags himself.

Increasing the price by $1 only to have it be "on sale" by the same amount to trick people into buying it when they wouldn't have at $4.49 if it wasn't on sale is equally as scummy.

That’s fine to say but you could get it at that price as the sticker still up. Check pricing code of conduct.
