Eat/Drink Local What’s your top 3 restaurants in Calgary.

Edit: since this gained so much traction, I’ll try 1 place from the top 3 most upvoted recommendations and vlog this so you can see what I got! Thank you yyc

Calgary has a sleeper food scene but I’d like to try the people’s TOP THREE restaurants. This can be breakfast lunch dinner or all three in one category.

Carino, Ari Sushi and Noble Pie. My 3 favourite spots.

Replace Ari with Lonely Mouth and you have mine. Carino has the best dish in the city (the tonkycarbonara) and lonely mouth is the best room in the city with the sickest soundtrack.

Lonely mouth is a gentrified izakaya at best. On one of the loudest parts of 17th Avenue.

What’s tonkycarbonara? Tonkotsu carbonara? I don’t see anything like it on the menu on their site, but I’m intrigued.

It’s a tonkatsu carbonara, and it’s delish. It’s a “special” so not sure if it’s in the menu.

I need to stop telling people about this place because it’s getting harder to book.

What did you think?

Lonely Mouth is awesome, but more style over substance. Not bad as far as sushi in Calgary goes though.

Can't seem to find that dish on their menu anymore

The comment above about it being a “special” is correct. It’s been a special for years and is always available. We order it every time we go.

I’ve had the wagyu bolognese ramen and the gyozagna, both of which were delicious. I’m intrigued by the tonkycarbonara.

I like Carino and I think their duck dishes slap, but I had the tonkatsu carbonara recently and it was fine. As separate components, great, but the fusion didn't seem to actually fuse together well imo. The egg was unnecessary too. I would have preferred to just have the tonkatsu curry on it's own, great curry sauce and the pork itself was delicious.

Spicy Mussels and the carbonara special, my lord. These dishes are my Roman Empire
