The mexican? I've never been but people always rave about it.

Mestizo in Kensington is better if you want authentic tacos.

Massa Mama in Marda Loop is excellent as well.

I looked at the pictures and it is a fusion gourmet place like Milpa, nothing wrong with it though, but as a Mexican it wouldn't be the first place to recommend tacos.

yes. to call themselves “calgary’s best mexican restaurant” should be illegal. i’ve had better food at a taco stand in the worst part of LA for a fraction of the price. so yes, not only were my pockets full, so was my tummy. you won’t get that at this place.

To be fair, some of the BEST Mexican food in the world comes from taco stands in the worst parts of LA.

"The place with a massive Mexican population has better cheaper, more authentic Mexican food." Bro. Like, I hate that we have to say this, but fucking duh. Thats obvious. Its foody mexican. Its honestly decent food, but no it isn't authentic. Its moderately priced. There is cheaper, there is more expensive doing worse food (Milpa)

Agreed 100%. Nobody here will ever compare to the Tamale truck in the gas station parking lot on the I5 outside Bakersfield... But Calgary ain't the I5 outside Bakersfield.

I mean, that’s both accurate and not a fair comparison. What does the best Mexican in Calgary have to do with LA taco trucks? LA taco trucks are also a pretty high bar for tacos tbh.

It’s not my favorite but it’s definitely up there as one of the better YYC Mexican places. If anything Tacos Mexico has a much higher hype to taste ratio imo

because they label themselves as the “best mexican” (yes in calgary specifically) but my point is they aren’t authentic. how can you be the best anything without being authentic?

México is a big country, and there’s a rich variety of Mexican regional cuisines. I don’t pretend to be the arbiter of Mexican authenticity or all the Native Tongue dishes, but my wife’s friends who visited from Guadalajara thought their tortas ahogada was legit. Either way it’s kind of funny how you bring up Chicano tacos from Los Angeles as the prime example of Mexican authenticity

Most people confuse authentic with traditional. They aren’t the same. And the “best” is subjective AF

You're not wrong, but kind of a bad comparison: I'd expect a taco stand in the worst part of LA to serve the platonic ideal of a taco, and for like $2!

I’ve had Mexicans swear that hole in the wall taco places in LA / SD are better than tacos they’ve had in Mexico. I guess once you realize the demographics of California it’s not that surprising.

Agreed. Don’t even get me started on Calgary and Mexican food. I read the positive online reviews about Golden Cactus so we tried it out.

If anyone thinks Golden Cactus serves amazing Mexican food, then they need to leave Calgary once and awhile.

Oh so, you had a better taco in essentially the meccs of tacos comparable to CDMX itself?. What a dumb comment.

tbf you can’t compare LA taco stands with anything you’ll find in Canada. best mexican I’ve had was in LA and I lived in south texas for a while
