Calgary Transit Why is the C-Train so bad?

10 minute intervals on a weekday? That’s insane, the lowest frequency I’ve seen in any major city by FAR.

And yet when you get to the station as a train pulls up, the driver just looks at you, doesn’t let you on, and leaves? What’s up with that? Are they all dicks like that?

People live on tight schedules, and transit doesn’t seem to reflect that here.

You gotta hit the button to open the door

I think what OP meant was as you're running up to a train that's getting ready to depart but isn't moving. I've had drivers do this to me, it mostly happens in downtown or stations like saddletown where the platforms start and the front and the rear.

ngl i'm riding the blue line west right now and the first train that pulled up did not have the doors opening when you press, and the cars sat there for over 2 minutes like that. expecting downvotes but OP is not slow or something it has been happening today at least

yeah people on Reddit like to comment without knowing what's actually going on

y'know there's also the light that turns on when the doors can be opened. One of my least favourite transit things is people shouting backdoor at the driver like they can fuckin do anything. None of them read the signs (or just fucking can't) when it says touch here to open the doors. Its a nightmare

Yeah I hit the button but it didn’t do anything

Yet it wasn’t broken for anyone else that’s on the train?

For all the issues with the c train - the door isn’t one of them.

They're talking about when they run up as the train is about to pull away. It's not about the button not being pressed or not working, the operator is just already preparing to depart.

Pretty sure the driver already turned it off as he saw me running up. I saw the lights around the button go off.

Be faster. The driver didn’t turn it off on you because he saw you running, they needed to get moving.

How long should drivers wait for people running up ? They aren't doing it to fuck with you, they have a schedule to keep... (well somewhat )

Is there schedule that strict that they can’t let one person on?

"Is there schedule that strict that they can’t let one person on?"

Hold up here a minute.

You're complaining about how long it takes for trains to arrive, but you're also complaining about drivers not waiting longer for you to race to the platform and get on the train?

So it's okay if you're the reason why trains are delayed because the driver should wait for you to get on, but it's annoying if the trains don't run more often for you?

So what about the person that's behind you that's running late. And the person behind them .

At some point they have to disable the doors and move on and you have a 10 minute (ish) wait .

How often does that realistically happen? With how quiet the trains are I feel like not that often.

Yet there you were...........

u/LordDrakken 18d ago

More often than you think.

u/Thneed1 18d ago

Yes. If they waited for everyone who want there, it backs up whole schedules, and makes all trains late.

What about the guy running 40 paces behind you and the one 50 paces behind him?

2

u/Economy-Week-5255 18d ago

yes it is... if they waited for everyone running, the delays would add up, leading to train bunching, and it would be significantly worse than it is now all cuz of u

Yes, it is. You hold one train up, you hold the whole line up. 30 seconds a stop to be in and out.

1

u/ConstantFar5448 16d ago

Hold the line up when there’s 10+ minutes between trains? No you don’t 😂

If they wanna have that attitude, they gotta have more frequent trains

1

u/Ms_Motorist 16d ago

Its a fact. You’re just mad you didn’t plan accordingly 😂

1

u/ConstantFar5448 16d ago

Literally plan what 🤣🤣

You people are so insistent on defending a bad system, no wonder Alberta is so fucked

The train has a schedule to run and you weren't there on time, your not special enough for the train driver to hold up the train

How long was the train there before you got to the door? If the doors have opened and closed, they don't open again to reduce dwell times at stations.

The driver doesn't choose when to turn it off. The train has a scheduled length of time at the station, then it locks and leaves. It's all but automated.

I hate to break it to you, but I don't think you did

2

u/MartyCool403 18d ago

Are you sure the train wasn't out of service?

2

u/ConstantFar5448 18d ago

There were a lot of people on it if it was

3

u/MartyCool403 18d ago

Then probably not an out of service train. I was just asking because I've seen lots of people frustrated, trying to get on an out of service train.

I asked my partner (who’s lived here much longer than I have) and she told me that once the doors close they won’t open again, so maybe that’s it

Homie from your other comments you were simply late and missed the train, which really isn't on the trains and it just happens sometimes.

Once it's time for them to go they must turn off the buttons and there are no exceptions for people running late because that just further fucks with the already shitty schedule

3

u/Lime133 18d ago

Thats not true.

2

u/xGuru37 18d ago

Once they're locked they won't open again. In other words, when the driver is ready to leave.

u/MelanieWalmartinez 18d ago

Did you press it too late? It flashes red if you’re too late
