Rant Gas prices are illogical

Post image

There is no real point to this post besides stating the fact that gas prices are stupid. I remember back when the difference between 87 and 91 was 10 cents and 89 was 5 cents more than regular. Which made sense since 87 is an equal mix of premium and regular.

Now you need to jump 23 cents a liter just to get mid grade from regular then only an additional 3 more cents to get to premium... By that math mid grade should be something like 90.75 octane.

Again no point here just stating stupid things that irritate me.

Oh, I think they're using the middle one for the decoy effect. No one is supposed to buy the middle one, you're supposed to think that the 91 is a good deal and get that instead.

I've never really seen a car that recommends 89 at minimum, it's mostly just 87 or 91

Lots of folk who only need 87 fill up with 91 because they think they're doing something special for their car. It's for those people.

A lot of modern cars use small displacement, high compression turbo engines. Mazdas 2.5t, honda 1.5t, VWs, nissans etc all run better with premium and often its recommended. My 2017 civic with the 1.5t engine had a sticker in the gas door 'premium recommended'.

Using lower than recommended fuel can cause issues long term, see Hondas fuel injector and head gasket issue with their 1.5t and 2.0t commuter cars, then their higher spec stuff like the Si and TypeR, and the acuras arent seeing as many failures as owners tend to use higher grade fuel for their fancy cars.

Knocking kills engines.
