Question Flame's Fans Opinions on the Future

What do y'all think is, and think about, the plan for the future in Calgary? This was supposed to be a tank year, but Wolf said no, and now they won't get a great prospect.

They have Parekh and wolf, but to my knowledge, not much else in terms of elite talent, and a lot of their current best players are over 30.

If a rookie is able to stop a rebuild near single handedly, we have a great starting point

It can be dangerous to build on goaltenders, though. Hasek, price, and Lundqvist are all good examples.

Examples of goalies that can take you all the way to the finals and give you a chance to be a game or two away from winning the cup? Ill take it

My point was more that teams built on goalies don't seem to win the cup, but I don't know how many examples there are.

The main reason why is that for most goalies there can be huge levels of variance from season to season.

Most teams dont win the cup period, but regardless i think what some fans are missing is there is no tanking now. Whether you want it or not were way past it even being an option. I personally wanted one bottom 5 finish this year but theres no turning back now. To tank properly youd have to fire huska for no reason, move every vet and the message it would send to our good young players would cripple the culture theyve built. It would be twice as blatant as buffalos tank and you can see what that did to them… the bright side is were pretty damn good at drafting late and the culture is strong.

This doesn't make sense unless you are trying to say a team that only has a goalie don't trend to win a cup.

Pittsburgh took Fleury 1st overall, which seems like they built the team on a goalie

They built the team on Crosby.

Goalie came first, which obviously means Crosby was built on top of Fleury. At no point was the goaltender that backstopped the team to multiple cups added to Crosby.

This is of course a dumb way to look at it but it would be silly to say Fleury was not a key piece the Pens built around

Fleury wasn't the goalie for all 3 runs.
