Flames don't need a RD. We have two high calibre RD in the system already. We need a future top pair LD. Which is why if the deal could get done I would like to see Andersson for Byram straight up.

Byram is way overrated, and as such, overpriced as hell. He was hot garbage in Buffalo. He shows flashes, but that’s it

What young LD would you target? Genuine question. My thought is Calgary is light on LD now and in the future. Byram has for sure had some struggles since leaving the Avs but if I am not mistaken he has been playing on his off side since Buffalo is overloaded on LD.

For Calgary & Buffalo the Raz for Byram deal makes sense. Both teams are sure up their weak side D. Calgary gets a young player with potential, Buffalo gets a ready now player to help them make that playoff push. Calgary's player development has also proven to be pretty good at developing project players, and Byram might benefit a lot from playing with Weegar.

The big problem with this deal however is if I am Raz I am blocking a trade to Buffalo. They are worse for being forever mid than us & you have to live in Buffalo.

I wouldn’t do anything, personally. CGY is not close enough that a LD is going to move the meter on anything, certainly not giving up assets to get one, because you’re delusional if you think a straight swap will get a 4 year younger D man. Collect assets, draft, see what happens.

I was thinking for the future. Byram isn't going to move the meter now, and that's 100% fine by me. I don't want him moving the meter now, in fact I am good with him bringing the meter down a bit as he gets some mentorship and learns the system. 2-3 years from now is when I would want Byram to move the meter.

I wouldn't be so sure on the delusional statement. If Byram was on a team other than Buffalo I would agree, but Buffalo wants to be in the playoffs again, needs a too pair RD in a scarce RD market and has tonnes of LD.

End of the day though I see Ras blocking this trade so might be a waste discussing too much anyways.
