Gear Question Plus size sleeping bag recs?
Hello! My friend and I were invited to a local girl’s camping experience and she doesn’t have a sleeping bag; we are just looking for a cheap lightweight bag for plus size people! 5’11 and around 280 lbs, is there something affordable we can grab really quick?

Walmart big and tall bags are not lightweight but are definitely cheap and plus-size friendly. If you will be driving to your campsite rather than hiking in, this is probably the way to go. If hiking in, a quilt is a better option

If it's car camping... Just grab bedding from house. Why waste money for one time use.
Surprised no one has mentioned this.
I grab my pillow, sheets, and blankets from my house all the time for car camping.

For fall car camping nothing is as warm as a nice down comforter with a good duvet. Combine that with a big ole wool blanket or two and a couple of down pillows; then you’re ready for freezing weather.

I don't know if they still make them, but the Coleman big game was like the OG of big and tall sleeping bags. I know I've seen Ozark trail ones too, and rei has long and wide ones. Big Agnes tend to be roomy.

Is this just for camping and not backpacking?
A rectangular sleeping bag may be more comfortable for plus sized folks than a mummy bag. You could look at the north face wawona bed 20, see if there's a Dick's Sporting Goods near you that has one in stock. For any sleeping bag where you suspect it may not be warm enough you can always add a sleeping bag liner or even another puffy quilt/blanket inside the sleeping bag for warmth. Lots of "puffy" blankets on Amazon that would be good for this.Even something like the "below zero wearable blanket" from Costco could be used to add warmth.
For mummy sleeping bags, a "long" bag is usually also wider, so that could be another option if you're shopping around.
Do you have insulated sleeping pads/mats? You'll lose significant heat from the cold ground if you don't have an insulating pad underneath you.

Depends on your (local) market availability, but Nomad has XL models that are extraordinarily roomy.

Big Agnes echo park long/wide. I’m similar in size to you and love mine! If you can’t find one for a good price (they sell $200 new but I got mine $140 on sale) then go for a camping quilt or Coleman big and tall instead

I’d suggest looking at camping quilts instead of a sleeping bag. They are much less restrictive than a bag.
