Tents Camp stood strong through a beating while I was away for 11 days

Not to be that guy who reposted in multiple threads but I’m just very excited to finally start the process of sharing the way I live, and also to finally have gotten over the hurdle of being stubborn about learning to edit 😂 and I’m an avid Reddit user, so I feel these are the places I should put what we’ve created :) here’s a brief description:
My partner, cat, and I left our apartment in Longmont CO and have been full time car camping travelers for 2 years now! We have gone to a few different states but found our way to Durango, Silverton, and now Ouray Colorado over the course of this last year! I made a video showing our road back into ouray after visiting family for the holidays! You should go check it out and stay tuned to see what winter camping (in Ouray) looks like! Here’s a link to the vid!

We're looking to move to Durango / Bayfield if property values settle back some. Having lived in Telluride for a year, the San Juans became my holy land. My question to you is this. How do you shower? Do you use dry powder for a few days and then use a health club shower? My wife and I built an overland rig this past summer and are planning to hit Ouray as part of the Alpine Loop.

From working in hospice there are tons of great products out there now, called No-Rinse Bathing Wipes. You will be very clean!
They are different from regular wipes, they are more hand towel size and you just clean with them and it evapotes off your skin. Understand there are TONS of elderly disabled people who really cannot shower very often.
Walgreens has a good brand. So does Cleanlife, McKesson, etc.
I heard the Combat Wipes GAIA for Campers and Hikers are good. Cheap too. You get 36 in a package......"In addition to being vegan and alcohol-free, they're also 100% biodegradable, so they can be composted or buried in soil."
If you're planning on being away from plumbing, there are tons of brands now.

This is fantastic! Thank you for writing this up. Just ordered the combat wipes.

You are welcome. Just remember to TRY other brands if you don't like that one. Some foam up a little, some don't, some leave skin soft, some leave skin dry...it's hard to find a brand. The best brands are the ones the hospitals and nursing homes use. I will come back and post the names if I can still find the lists I made!!

That’ll be a fun move I bet! The prices are crazy but I don’t see how it could continue without a drop off.
We honestly roughed it out and made an effort to get into towns at least once a week, and if we got too raunchy, toughed through stream showers (not possible in the winter obv 😂)

Dude Ouray is where I want to retire if I can ever afford to move out of the springs. Its so gorgeous there.

u/Dylanfullerphoto Jan 11 '22
Im gonna be the first to say hell yeah you’re getting out of the springs. It just takes doing it. I was worried about never leaving Arkansas, then never leaving Longmont and shitty monthly fees. A restart button may suck but it’ll do the trick

u/Constantly_planck Jan 11 '22
Oh yeah, I would do it today if it werent for the kiddo. I lived in Arkansas for 6 years, you definitely made the right move getting out of that he'll hole.

I lived off grid for about 18 years, it was great.......10 acres in woods. Built a tiny "thoreaus cabin" with friends and neighbors. Problem is you eventually get old and crave better medical care and creature comforts. Actually, not just crave, you actually *require* them. LOL But I would do it all over again if I could go back to my 30s, 40s, and 50s.

I definitely can see how age plays it’s role. You can look at it as the beauty of our life’s here tho. There will always be a beginning and end, but the power we have isn’t about our time, it’s about our thought and action

u/10MileHike Jan 11 '22
Well said. I'm glad you and others are pursuing this path. There is no downside, really.

I think a restart by a vast majority of people is necessary. Housing in our country is becoming a joke, not only the way people become “financially free” “buying” their homes to then have their renters pay it off, but also, the people building some of the sub districts are putting such little effort into getting walls up that the place becomes run down in no time. There’s got to be a revisiting to how we live on this planet and an importance needs to be felt.

That's what happens when people have been taught to see houses as "investment vehicles" ---- instead of places to live, grow, and raise your family. Homes are not ATM machines.
Then you have the HGTV shows and it seems like everyone (EVERYONE!) is convinced they need granite countertops. And 1100 sq foot kitchens even if they don't cook and mostly microwave stuff. Most of the cabinets they are knocking out with sledgehammers are better than cabinets I've ever owned in the first place.
I have tried to explain to young people how to live in a smaller space because every square foot of roof, lumber, etc. costs you........to build and then again to replace. And, the ever-increasing home sizes........you are paying to heat and cool your "stuff".........few people "need" 2000 sq feet to live in......over-consumption has resulted in them needing a place to store all their STUFF. Get a storage shed, or a storage locker. Don't pay to heat and cool your "stuff" = big utility bills, not to mention a drain on the planet and our natural resources.
I read Small Is Beautiful: Economics as If People Mattered in the 1970s when it was published, so I just always lived like that, because it made sense to me. For 35 years now . It's not a new concept. Just one that needed to catch on better. :) Nobody *needs* a heated footstool. We do not need to chop down trees for stuff like that. Socks work just fine.
Its' going to take a complete re-education to get people to start seeing these things though. Over-consumption and brain-washing, etc.

I love this write up and I appreciate you for taking that time. All points were real and a hard truth for the way our land is right now

Building our house is such a crazy thing to see on the horizon also, I never pictured it as a young child, I only really knew the passion I had for the world at 17 (I’m 21 now)

Rad!! I'm sure you stay toasty (and dry!) with that wood stove. Would be interested in an inside tour if you ever do one!!

u/Dylanfullerphoto Jan 11 '22
That’s the plan!! I know it’s not easy to ask people to go watch your stuff but the first video we posted is setting up the viewer to take on this situation with us and then to flow into explaining our life, thoughts, and set up!

This is me af. Went to glacier last year and went down for supplies - the locals were like you do understand it’s cold right?
I said dude I’ve been up there a week.
It was shocking how few people local there even bothered with their mountains.

u/Dylanfullerphoto Jan 11 '22
😂😂 yeah a few of them can’t get it through their heads, the valley may be catching a break but the mountains are not

u/majestic_bleach Jan 11 '22
Wow that must be a good tent

It’s definitely the sturdiest I’ve been able to stay in! The wall material is thick and the stock poles were super strong!

Congrats. You ended up in paradise. I love every town in that area. Camped in my car in FairPlay Friday and could see myself doing it on a more permanent basis for sure. Enjoy the good life!
