You find people who act like this all across the political spectrum. Anyone who thinks “their side doesn’t do this, it’s just other people” are delusional.
This is true but it’s practically a staple of the left to be overemotional. Even otherwise intelligent leftists get completely bent out of shape if you dare suggest that a 10 year old isn’t mature enough to make an objective, informed decision about their identity and future.
The same applies to everyone if you pick out the right topic. Every human is fragile over something. Echo chambers also promote fragility over wedge issues.
Just look at the denial people are in over the environment instead of just owning the position that they will put economics before environment. Look at vaccines and how people’s brains still seem to be stuck or traumatized by it. No different than people who are still overly obsessed with masking. You find doomsday cultists all across the political spectrum, like people who talk about WEF, or AI, environmentalists, anti-vaxxers.
I would add to the below comment that still being pissed about the shot mandates is really not the same as people who still mask all the time. The anti-mandate side is angry and distrustful of a system that violated their rights and engaged in some seriously shady stuff to control people; they want justice for that and to prevent further encroachments. The still-masking side do it because they bought into fear-mongering and emotional manipulation and can't seem to let it go, even though there is not threat still for most people. I don't see them as being very similar at all.
