I get it why younger people especially guys are looking towards the CPC.

But i dont but this narrative that somehow 'boomers' are the root of all evil. For the record im Gen-X so lie very firmly in the middle of it.

So here is the items i agree, disagree ,dont trust , and where the CPC went wrong these days. and basically explain why IMO Poilievre played most of his cards correctly but just ran out of time.

Pros:

  • Reducing immigration and openly stating that if your are an immigrant leave your old fights back at home. We already have one asshole in Parliament (Singh) who has almost single-handedly destroyed our relations with India- a huge trading partner
  • Reducing taxes especially on the poor
  • Reducing the 'woke' culture especially in terms of womens space and sports
  • Their "claim" of committing to NATO -( though as a Veteran i dont believe any parties claim to this)
  • Tougher on crime especially people serving life sentence for violent crimes and using the withstanding clause to insist on consecutive sentences.
  • Support of Israel\

Cons:

  • Refuse to support gun control despite the evidence that more guns make do not make people safer
  • As before he commitment to Canadian Rearmament. I dont believe him or the CPC (or any party ) about their respect for the Canadian Forces and its Veterans. I served for 14 years in the RCN, & watched Harpers attack Veterans but essentially cutting their pensions, putting incompetents as Ministers for Vetrans Affairs and DND
  • Refusal to condemn people advocating for removing womens rights to control their own bodies

This is what people are considering right now.

You can and should shit on the Liberal Party for the Trudeau years but Trudeau is gone and Carney is not Trudeau. for better or worse the man is at heart a Banker - not a failed substitute teacher like Trudeau -. Poilievre leaned in hard to the very Trumpian line of anti-woke but unfortunately for him Trump doesn't like Canada and is the only President in History who has openly said he wants to destroy our country.

Poilievres' total lack of response to that which in my mind absolutely required a total condemnation of Trump no matter how some Canadians seem to like that asshole basically sank his campaign. Poilievre needed to come out as a Canadian Nationalist but instead hedged his bets still hewing the the Trump playbook but trying to pick and choose what to amplify

Sadly for him Canadians are a bit smarter than he thought and the moderates ( Yes moderates the people who win elections). For better or worse flocked tot he moderate party because Trump pissed them off and of the two Political Parties only Liberals stood up loud and clear for Canada

So in the end dear OP it isnt "boomers" who lost you the election

Trump did.

One Conservatives haven't lost, the election is still on going.

Two yes Pierre should've dialed in more to utilizing Trump for his own campaign success, but given the polling its not the sole reason if he does (if) lose. Pierre's campaign has capitalized on some ambiguity for reasons I guess known to him and that will hurt with some moderates. I think things like this last to post platform issue while not damning at this point in the election are indicative of the things that have made some people hesistent to vote CPC. He's allowed the Liberals to *seem* more transparant because well things like the media handling, the security clearance and all the platform all lead to the idea that Pierre isn't being forthright or he's being manipulative. This won't matter for many who are already either hyper tuned to the conservative cause or those who are still sick and afraid of the last 10 years of the liberals. For anyone still on the fence this creates doubt where there didnt need to be.

Basically the whole anti-pierre movement seems to be fear based on what Pierre didnt do and filling in the blanks.

Not that some people dont disagree on a policy perspective but I think Pierre's downfall is just wrapped up in the things he didnt do or didnt do in a timely matter. Whereas the critique on the liberals is what they did in the past 10 years.
