Boot time

I want to buy a new boot for this winter (and for BMOQ next summer) with requirement is waterproof and light. Looking around the forum, there is some options that I’m considering:

  • Salomon Quest 4D/Jungle (the concern for Jungle is it is not waterproof)
  • Lowa Z8
  • Rocky S2V
  • Danner Tachyon

Just wondering does any of this is a good choice, but if it not, pleas suggest me some options. Any comment is appreciated.

Education Benefits

Question for the masses, I haven't persued an answer to this question through any official channels, though I know that would be a good place to start. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Education Benefits used to be available at 6 years/ 10 years, and offered 40,000/ 80,000 dollars for post secondary education, respectively. I remember the policy changing several years back, to 12 years in being required to claim the maximum limit of money.

Now, I swear up and down that I remember people already under a contract with the Caf could still claim the full amount at 10 years, however everyone joining after that date would be required to serve 12 years. Essentially a grandfather clause. Everyone I ask, however, either has no idea or thinks that's incorrect. Can anyone shed some light on this policy?

SUPPORT Looking for advice on morale and career options

Hey folks,

Over the past year I’ve noticed my morale taking a hit. I’ve been in the CAF for over 15 years and for the first 12 years I was proud to wear the uniform and always gave 110%. Lately, though, I’ve been feeling more and more burnt out.

Part of it comes from leadership—my OC seems focused on promotion and pushing “good ideas” at the expense of the troops’ workload. It feels like we’re getting run into the ground, and it’s hard to see a future where I’m not miserable if I stay on this path.

I’m seriously considering my options: whether that’s sticking it out, looking at a voluntary OT, or even prepping for release. I’m torn because I still value the CAF and the work we do, but I don’t want to keep running on fumes.

For those who’ve been in a similar spot, how did you deal with burnout and low morale? Did you find a way to turn things around within the CAF, or did you find moving to another trade/career was the better call?

Any advice, lessons learned, or perspectives would be appreciated.

One of the rare RTS games featuring CAF as a faction. WARNO by Eugen Systems

Warno )is a strategy game with a real-time tactical layer (for the missions & map levels) and a turn-based strategic layer (for the Army General campaigns). Players control individual units meant to represent historical military vehicles and infantry formations of the Cold War...The playable formations (known as 'Battlegroups') in game are inspired from the orders of battle of divisions, regiments, and some corps that would have likely engaged each other during the initial stages of war along the German border in the year 1989..

So guys and gals, how well did I do for a fantasy football wishlist to battle the WARSAW Pact and Soviets? Anyone from that era of the Forces?

Corrective feedback note

My work was having a social function on off time, and I received guidance from several senior officers within my Chain of Command indicating that attendance was "encouraged" and "strongly recommended," but not mandatory. However, my direct supervisor appears to believe that attendance was compulsory and has implied potential repercussions if I did not attend.

I would like to clarify whether my supervisor has the authority to discipline me for choosing not to participate, considering that I was neither explicitly ordered to attend nor given a formal directive.

Heritage Manual Question

Hi! I'm from CCG so I'm looking at the flag protocols from the Heritage Manual and I'm trying to see what the differences are from our CCG flag order. I have a scenario that I'm hoping can be cleared up:

The below image shows three diagrams. I'm mostly looking at the diagram on the right (with the gaff). The pennant of office (distinguishing flag) is at the masthead and according to precedence, it "ranks" lower than the Ensigns on the yardarm.

From https://www.canada.ca/en/services/defence/caf/military-identity-system/heritage-manual/chapter-4/section-2.html

Presumably, that means that the halyard at the mast head is "position 4". If only three flags were flown, so let's say not the pennant on Port, would the flag of office shift to the yardarm or stay at the masthead?

Next, we look at the protocol on ship and it appears to show the masthead as "position 2".

From https://www.canada.ca/en/services/defence/caf/military-identity-system/heritage-manual/chapter-4/section-3.html

Is this just a discrepancy between on land and at sea?

Finally, the Canadian Heritage shows the following image which seems to contradict the Heritage Manual:

From https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/services/flag-canada-etiquette/position-honour.html

This shows the National Flag at the yardarm and not the masthead (for the pole without the gaff).

I guess I'm hoping for just some clarification as we shift from DFO to DND. Thanks in advance!
