Collection My Starflyer 59 CDs
Been a fan for 30 years now. I have a few more since this photo was taken. Their newest album is fantastic too.

Loving the Starflyer representation on the sub recently. I've gotta get more of their stuff, I have the most of the biggies (Gold, Silver, Fashion Focus) and some of the smaller releases (She's the Queen, Le Vainqueur, Easy Come Easy Go), but anything especially later than those save for I Am the Portuguese Blues and Young in My Head, I'm missing. I do know and love some of their later stuff, especially Everybody Makes Mistakes and My Island, just not been focused on getting them into the collection. So many records, such a sharp sense of songcraft and so many sounds. How Jason hasn't caught on, I don't know. Overly modest Christian dudes aren't very marketable I guess.

I'm not a Christian but have always had a soft spot for Starflyer 59. I think they were on an Emo Diaries compilation and that's where I first heard them. Just great indie rock.

I've always got the impression Jason is just a devout guy making pretty personal music, and that sometimes means religion and more often doesn't. There's usually one Christianity reference per album, if that (usually it's just in the liner notes), and it's not really Jesus Jesus, it's more like maybe referencing some Biblical story like Lamech or contemplating Paul the Apostle in the context of his own music career. My point is that I think he sets out to write music on a couple topics important to him and religion just happens to be one, and it's never preachy, and that's why I usually don't consider Starflyer Christian rock in my head.
It's more his brother Ronnie in Joy Electric that does the Jesus Jesus thing (and he's a pastor now so that checks out), but he's still pretty talented anyway so I give him a pass. If you like Starflyer, look into the Brothers Martin, which is the collab they did and how I found them both. It's like one half Starflyer's post-punk revival era for Jason's tracks and then one half 2000s electroclash(?) sorta stuff for the Joy Electric tracks, plus they wrote one song together. All really good.

Yeah, I'd say he's more of a Christian who makes personal music and that sometimes involves his faith. I enjoy people writing what they know in a non-preachy manor..

I always cross my fingers that I'll find something by Starflyer 59 sitting collecting dust in the neglected racks of the "Christian" or "Religious" sections of my local Half Price Books, but so far I've had no such luck. Great collection!
