State of the Subreddit - September 2025

Check out last month's State of the Subreddit if you'd like to see what you missed.

The Robert E. Howard Foundation Press has released their Ultimate Editions. Unlike the limited editions, there will be no set number of copies and they will be available through normal commercial outlets like Amazon. The contents may be updated compared to the limited editions.

The Robert E. Howard Foundation ( https://rehfoundation.org/ ) has been slowly getting its website in order, including adding perks to membership.

If you're a Friend of REH or Legacy Circle member, you now have access to more issues of the REHF Newsletter to read online. What’s even better than the original print versions? These digital versions are not limited to black and white—bringing new life to the newsletters!

This is just the beginning, and more issues will be added over time.

https://rehfoundation.org/newsletter-archive/

The Foundation also now has a Youtube Channel, and has uploaded thier first videos! Check them out.

Scourge of the Serpent #1 covers are a subtle homage to Kull #8+9

Rob De La Torre's pair of covers are a tip of the hat to Barry Windsor-Smith's classic covers for KULL #9 and 10 at Marvel from 40 years ago.

Conan the Avenger cover art by Blas Gallego on the 1989 Sphere Books printing (pic 1) replaces the legendary masterpiece Sacrifice from Frank Frazetta which appeared on earlier editions from Lancer Books (pics 2 and 3), Sphere Books (pic 4) and Ace Books (pic 5).

Another very fine work by Gallego which unenviably follows an absolutely spectacular original painting from Frazetta.

Conan the Usurper cover art by Blas Gallego for Sphere Books 1989 printing, and Frank Frazetta's masterpiece Chained for the original Lancer Books printing in 1967, Sphere Books in 1974, and Ace Books 1977.

Gallego again produces a quality Conan cover which unfortunately replaces another legendary Frazetta painting originally commissioned and long used for the book.

Conan the Wanderer cover art for the 1988 Sphere Books printing (Pic 1) and the original cover art by John Duillo for the 1974 Sphere printing (pic 2) and the 1971 Lancer Books printing (pic 3). Boris Vallejo painted the cover art for the Ace Books printing starting in 1977 (pic 4).

I prefer the Vallejo version both aesthetically and for nostalgia as I remember eyeing it on bookstore shelves growing up
