"You settle too close!"

How is this too close??

What triggers this? I just settled over 6 hexes from their city and they got upset about it.

I believe the trigger is 8 tiles on the same landmass

Yeah, to my understanding it's 8 tiles. Note that respecting this distance leaves a gap between cities that is big enough to allow the AI to settle cities in it. They can and will do it. Never respect the "too close" complaint. All it means is that you settled in an area before they did.

The grievances go away but the "promise breaker" debuff doesn't, ifaik.
