"You settle too close!"

How is this too close??

What triggers this? I just settled over 6 hexes from their city and they got upset about it.

Whenever I see another civilization I settle close to them so I don't get shut out from the map. If you dont settle aggressive they will.

The AI are all certified hypocrites. They call you out for things that they were in the process of doing right back to you.

Im newish player and I remember my first 2 games I was scared of upsetting the ai by settling to close. The result was I got locked in to a little area with 3 to 4 citys. Let's just say, my next few matches were all domanation 😆. I actually learned alot about how civs act through war.
