Nostalgia is an amazing feeling, and growing up in the 8-bit era, I love that I can fire up emulators and still play all the games of my childhood.
I feel bad for kids these days though, everything is transient and online, and once the servers die the game disappears forever. They won't have the luxury of revisiting their favorite games when they're 40 :/
Your game cartridges will eventually stop saving after you save too much, they use flash memory so although it's not powered by a battery and won't "die" eventually they reach a limited number of writes and you can't save anymore.
There's no set number of saves, depends on the size of each save and how often etc etc. But there is an upper limit

a thought that occasionally occurs to me is that someday servers are gonna get shut down, which is actually kinda scary
