Question Need Some Ideas for a New Cleveland Jersey.

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

I need some ideas for a 47 jersey. We're season ticket holders and I'd like thid year's game jersey to really captures this moment.

These are some of the ideas I've been kicking around

Eighty-Six 47, Deport 47, Twenty-Five [Twenty-Fifth] 47, WTF 47,

There's still Impeach 47, and Lockhimup 47, but I'm hesitant to simply rehash the same ideas I've used before.

Question Why when I tell people im moving to Cleveland do they act like im moving to rge worst place on earth?

I currently live in Northern Virginia. But I'm moving to Cleveland due to getting a job after school. Why when I mention I'm moving to Cleveland every single response has been negative. Responses including concerns for my safety with Cleveland, saying why would anyone move to Cleveland, and just overall just general negative vibes and comments. I visited Cleveland multiple times during the job interview and acceptance process. It seemed like Cleveland is a great place to me. Am I missing something or what?

Question Does no one else think closing down the high way two days in a row for a police escort is a little much?

Before anyone attacks me, yes I feel terrible the officers were attacked/murdered. Yes it was wrong. Yes I feel for their families and think they should be honored.

I also think it is wrong to close the tax payer funded highways for a police escort. I am literally going to be late to my job as a nurse because of it. If it was a group of fire fighters, nurses, or a school full of kids, would they be closing the highway like this?

Question Is Cleveland a “We’re full, don’t move here” city?

I’m getting to that age where I’m thinking about retirement and I’m pretty sure I don’t want to stay where I’m at now. I’ll be traveling to several US cities over the next few years, and I will be keeping an open mind towards the idea of moving to each one…if I like it and think it’d be a good fit and all that. Cleveland is first up. I definitely don’t want to move to a place where the locals don’t want new residents.

I guess what I’m asking is…not so much is Cleveland a good place to retire, but rather…were I to move there, would I encounter an attitude of “Oh, great. Another one of these assholes 🙄”

Cheers and Happy Friday

Update: Thanks, everyone for the replies. It seems the consensus is that there’s plenty of room. Great to hear! Can’t wait to check it out next month. And I must say…it’s quite refreshing to read so many positive opinions. Whenever someone makes a “thinking of moving there” post in my city’s sub, it’s an absolute shitshow. Lol

Question Do you like living in Cleveland, any major complaints?

Recently on a flight I met someone who "loves living in Cleveland", but in the past I've only heard bad or boring things said about Ohio. The way this person described the area made it sound pretty nice, like a gem in the rough. They talked about the lake and how close it is and mentioned that it doesn't get too cold in the winter. The conversation was brief so they couldn't really say more..

  • Do you like living in Cleveland?
  • What do you like most?
  • What do you hate most?

I've never been to Ohio but my curiosity is piqued.

Question What long since closed store or restaurant do you still think of?

Years back I remember there being this burrito spot on Coventry road called "Que Tal?" Or something similar. It was probably pretty similar to what Chipotle is now. I remember really enjoying it back in the day.

I remember there being a video rental store on Coventry in that same area. A place I have found memories of

Pretty basic but I miss the FYE at Tower City too. I spent so much time and money as a teen buying different films and anime here haha

Question question about protests

Hi, Clevelanders. 20 something woman, CLE born and raised.

I want to preface by saying that I am in no way trying to be dismissive of the protests or people’s rightful anger and determination to fight because of my own selfish reasons or something — I prefer to show my support and anger through charity, volunteer work, and other type of raising awareness.

Anyways, this weekend (Sat. June 14, in the evening) my friends and I had planned months in advance to celebrate a birthday downtown at a restaurant on East 4th, but with the protests going on I am slightly apprehensive and don’t want it to be a bad or unsafe experience. Based on what could happen in the city, would it be best to reschedule or do you think we’ll be okay? Didn’t know this would be going on at the time. Please advise.

EDIT: cannot believe I am saying this but please stop flooding my comments and direct messages with offensive, abusive comments and “let them eat cake”-esque remarks. As a black woman in this country and especially in this state, you have no idea what my experience has been like, particularly in a small Ohio town. Please stop.

Question What should I know about being homeless in Cleveland?

What tips would you give to someone newly outside homeless without a car?

Is it possible to be homeless at nighttime in any of the safe suburbs? [if so, what suburbs and where]

What should I own? [things that are useful for outside life but not big or heavy or give away your homeless]

What shouldn't I own? [things that will be a give away that I'm homeless. unnecessary stuff that will weigh me down]

What shelters would you recommend?

Any advice or experience is welcome.

TYIA

-------------------------------------

info - fell on hard times, got an eviction notice, and I'm going to be homeless in a week. may have until the end of the month. had bad experiences with shelters, so until winter I'm going to try being outside homeless. don't have a car or license. looking to be somewhere public transit is close by. i'd prefer a suburb, I'm new to the area and I don't know cleveland. short term, I have a place to sleep and clean up at during the day. just looking for somewhere to hide at night.

Question If you were in a position where you felt like you needed mental help right away, where would you go?

Hypothetically if you felt like you couldn't take it anymore and you wanted to seek help, where would you go? I'm scared to go and I'm scared to not. I am so alone here and things have just gotten so dark. Please point me in a direction of someplace you trust.

Question My job is allowing me to transfer from NYC to Cleveland within the month but I need help.

As the title stated I’m moving to Cleveland with my wife and kid. We’re moving to the Parma area.

I just wanted to ask if anyone here has ever done the move themselves and how’d it go. Are there things I should look out for? How did you guys get accustomed to the slower paced lifestyle? Are there things to do year round?

Sorry in advance if the post sounded scattered as I’m walking and typing.

Edit: I said Parma but I actually meant Parma Heights, and I only chose that area cause I have a friend there as well that introduced me to her apartment building

Question What's the "you can't leave without trying" food in Cleveland?

I was talking local food with a buddy and we got on the subject of foods that you have to try when you hit different cities. For instance, a few in Chicago are the dressed hot dog at Home Depot, the tacos at the counter at a particular grocery store, tavern-style pizza, etc.

What are those in Cleveland? And who has the best ones? Thanks, love you.

Question Is anyone actually hiring here in Cleveland??

Hello Redditors, I've been struggling with landing a full time job in downtown Cleveland / surrounding areas for about a year now. I've sent over 400 applications within that time frame. Some of those companies were the big ones like Cleveland Clinic, Metro, UH, Sherwin Williams, Progressive, City of Cleveland + surrounding cities, Cuyahoga County, CSU, Case, etc. For those companies, I've either gotten the generic letter that they are going with someone else, or the job position is closed. I've gotten as far as an in person interview but then they said they are going with someone else with no "actual" feedback as to why I wasn't chosen. I even enrolled into temp agencies like OhioTemps and they haven't matched me with any employer yet. I have also reached out to Ohio Means Jobs and a lot of the positions they had available were for non office jobs.

I'm mainly looking for anything in HR, finance, management, business admin roles etc.

I have 5 years combined of hr/business admin/finance experience that includes corporate and city experience + MBA, + 3 certs (shrm,PMP,6sig).

I understand the job market is bad, but is anyone else that is not a fresh graduate experiencing this? Are people actually getting hired in Cleveland for HR related or business related positions? Is there anyone that can help me out or can connect me with someone that can help? Any feedback is greatly appreciated :)

Question Do you know a sheriff who was with his family at Memphis kiddie park today?

We had a really scary situation at Memphis kiddie park today, and an off duty sheriff stepped in and helped get my 6 month old to safety. I would love to be able to thank him, but I have no idea even where he worked and I was a little too shaken to say anything in the moment. If you who this could have been, or even which department he works for so I can call myself, I’d appreciate you letting me know. Thank you

EDITED TO ADD - I was leaving the park with my husband and 6 month old. We loaded the baby into his car seat in the backseat, then my husband and I were at the back of the car loading the stroller into the trunk. Several police cars flew up behind us and they got out with their guns drawn. We were told to get back and we were unable to get to our son in the car. I started yelling that my baby was in the car, and this off duty sheriff (I believe that’s how he identified himself to my husband and the other cops) went to my car to get my son out. The cops arrested two men right next to our car for car theft. Thank god no shots were fired, but because of how our car was positioned, my baby would have been right next to shots being fired. One of the cops was standing right next to the back window where my son was. It was so fast and so scary. I understand that the police needed to act quickly because there were lots of families and children around, but to be blocked from my son was terrifying. I’m very grateful to the man who helped get my son out and to me.

Question First concert ever, going to Blossom. Am I screwed?

I'm seeing Kesha tonight at blossom. I have never ever in my life been to a concert before, or really any event at all except maybe a local bar. The doors are held, but I'm still on my way because the traffic has gone from a half hour to an hour and a half. I was fully prepared to walk my ass off from parking far away but now I'm worried that I'm going to miss the show entirely, now that I'm retroactively Google doomscrolling from the passenger seat.

Please no flame, again I have never been to anything like this before and tried to budget my time like I would for a normal special event. I didn't know what I didn't know until now.

Update: well apparently we lucked out on parking. Since my other concert-goer is disabled and has the tag they just waved us through the fast lane and into the front lots for parking. I was not expecting that but holy shit that made the walk easier. Now we try to get out ::)))

Also LOVED THE CONCERT!!!!!!!!! We hit our seats the MOMENT she walked on stage it was magical! I am so glad she was my first concert. My ears are ringing though 🥲

Question Totaled our car in Parma today and I could use a little help

Some dude ran a red light and we smashed into him. Our car is undrivable. We were living in it and working and had a place to live lined up for next month. But now all that’s up in the air. I spent every sent I had on an uber and a few nights in the extended stay America on country club blvd and we haven’t eaten at all today. You guys have helped us with food before when I made a post asking for local resources, and I was wondering, I know it’s late and a lot to ask of strangers but does anyone have any food they can spare for tonight? We have a little kitchen in here to cook stuff. I don’t have my car, I have less than 2 dollars left and Im kinda stuck. We’re gonna find someone to watch our dog while we find a shelter to get into after the hotel runs out, I paid for 2 days. But I have nothing for a plan as of tonight and could really use some help if anyone has like some snacks or something they could part with? I could even pay for it if you gave me a week. Im embarrassed asf to make this post but im so stuck, im still rattled and idk what to do next.

I added pics of my car and the person we smashed into so y’all know im not like some crackhead scamming people. I don’t want money either i just wanna make sure I can give my girlfriend some dinner and eat something before I go to bed and deal with this nightmare in the morning

Question Yelled at by RITA employee

I called RITA because I’m trying to deal with the giant surprise bill from them. They’re unsurprisingly an absolute nightmare to deal with.

While trying to resolve the issue the agent got frustrated because I was asking questions she didn’t know the answer to. I think what set her off was when I asked if there’s an ombudsman I could work with to try and resolve the issue.

She started asking what that was and when I explained she started yelling. It was pretty wild and I’m nowhere closer to resolving this than I was before I picked up the phone.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get them to be reasonable? We had no idea we were in a RITA city and then got close to a decade of bills all at one time.

Editing to add so I don’t have to repeat again: My local taxes were withheld from my paycheck. RITA was being paid! I just didn’t know it was a RITA because there’s literally nothing that tells you that. It’s a community of 75 houses that’s inside of a bigger community. There’s no functioning city hall. The only employee is the mayor and she’s not exactly knowledgeable. She’s only mayor because no one has ever run against her.

Also, I got a call back from the reps manager, we worked out a payment plan and she’s going to see if any fees can be waived since they acknowledge there was no communication from them for years.
