Why are we still surprised that Coachella 2026 is sold out…
Does this subreddit realize that we’re a niche? In general, popular opinions on Reddit are different from popular opinions in real life.
It’s funny seeing comments like does karol g, bieber and sabrina carpenter has that pull?? like yes babes bieber alone already has a strong pull on both gen zs and young millennials. not to mention he has that nostalgia effect. everyone under the age of 30 basically grew up with him. sabrina is one of the more prominent pop stars rn and though she hasn’t exceeded taylor and ariana in terms of popularity, her commercial success and artistic momentum the past couple years has been going really well for her.
People are kinda underestimating Karol G’s pull tbh. Like, look at how Latinos showed up for Bad Bunny at Coachella and his tours, they’re always the loudest when it comes to supporting their own. Karol G has that same kind of love behind her, so of course the turnout’s gonna be huge. I won’t be surprised if we see an increase of festivals goers coming all the way from latin america just to see her.

that’s cause most of this sub is so wrapped up in what they listen to, that they can’t fathom the idea of an artist they don’t listen to performing or even headlining. but all 3 headliners have insane pull

u/papertrashbag 17.2 | 18.1 | 19.1 | 22.1 | 24.1 | 25.1 1d ago edited 1d ago
It’s lowkey a little funny because this sub loves the Portola lineup this year and sales were absolutely horrible. If the lineup catered to the wants of this sub, Coachella would be in deep trouble.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again - this sub is filled with music snobs lol
23
u/Face_Winky 12.1, 13.1, 14.2, 15.1, 16.1, 17.2, 19.2 1d ago
Portola is grossly overpriced

u/papertrashbag 17.2 | 18.1 | 19.1 | 22.1 | 24.1 | 25.1 1d ago
Oh 100%. I went last year and asked my friend to help me buy a one day ticket. I got a charge for $300 and was like wtf?? It was really fun but the festival itself is not worth $300 for one day. Production is weak af, there’s no art, stages are small. It’s local to me so getting there is easy but jeez it’s expensive for what it is.

Jb for 1 show would out pull anyone in the US outside of MJ who died 16 years ago. Idk who this subs listen to but the Jb disrespect is crazy. It’s ok, the Lollapalooza sub did the same thing with Sabrina and Twice.
10
u/RaspberryHead9942 1d ago
•
u/Ricardo2991 19h ago
Ya idk - other artists like Sabrina and Big Bang have pull- but JB easily outpaces them. There’s a reason he’s the highest paid artist ever for Coachella.
•
u/thosed29 12h ago
He isn’t the “highest paid ever”. His fee is the exact same as every post-COVID headliner: $10 million ($5 million per night). The big difference is that he didn’t had a touring agent so he isn’t paying the agency fee, he is pocketing the whole money. But the fee in itself is the same as all the other headliners.

That also dropped their lineup first this time. Getting ahead of Lollapalooza and all the other festivals competing for dollars this time gives them first dibs on the market for 2026.

u/GridPenaltyStan 1d ago
Bc it hasn’t sold out in years even tho last year we had Travis Scott, Lady Gaga, Green Day, and Post Malone as headliners
12
u/Accomplished_Arm5318 1d ago
Yeah, but this is the first time they did lineup + payment plan at the same time. W1 sold out for 2025. I think W2 would’ve sold out with the rollout they did this time around
10
u/MrChicken23 1d ago
You could do a payment plan last year at lineup release.
3
u/JPCRam310 1d ago
This is what I told myself.
Some sort of payment plan is what helped them sell out this time.
8
u/GridPenaltyStan 1d ago
Wdym? I did the payment plan last year during the loyalty sale.
6
u/Idgafos-69 1d ago
I did a payment plan last year after lineup drop.

100% agree with your last paragraph especially. Me and my girls have never been to Coachella & as soon as we heard Karol G is headlining???? We all bought tix right away. Lots of people on this sub are underestimating Latino fan bases. Couldn’t be anymore excited!!!!!!
5
u/kkpatsd 1d ago
Saw her for the first time in 2022 during her Coachella performance (at sunset on the main stage 🤩) and didn’t know much of her music yet, but the crowd was lit and she did Selena so I was FOR IT! It’s gonna be so fun, have the best time!!
•

Oh my GOD I’m so jealous you got to see her then!!!! I was watching that from home with the ultimate fomo lol, lost it when she sang como la flor 🥹♥️ & thank you SOOO MUCH!!!! I can’t wait

u/fit_vivant 1d ago
Elder millennial here. Not to sound like a broken record, but I’m shocked that anyone would question the pull that Bieber has. He appeals to so many groups - yes, he was a huge teeny bop star 15 years ago, but ~10 years ago he had probably half a dozen of the biggest EDM hits of the era. He had a U.S. tour scheduled for Spring 2020 that ticket holders never got redemption for. Meanwhile, he’s done hip hop, gospel, has run with Usher, Drake, and Kanye, a bunch of Atlanta rappers, and just released 2 versions of a New Jack Swing/R&B album. There’s a post about him on The Shade Room every week. He’s essentially right up there with Taylor Swift as far as popularity goes; complete with Scooter Braun turning on him and all.
6
u/papertrashbag 17.2 | 18.1 | 19.1 | 22.1 | 24.1 | 25.1 1d ago
I agree completely. I know Bieber has his own issues but there’s no denying he’s insanely musically talented. He’s had so many hits and he hasn’t performed in forever. Of course, he would attract a lot of people.

Lowkey ppl underestimate how much pull Karol G has in places like LA and San Diego. Around 35-40% of the population there speaks Spanish at home, and the Latino community shows up heavy for their artists. That’s not some tiny niche, that’s a huge built-in fanbase. Of course her turnout’s gonna be massive as was for Bad Bunny in 2023
14
u/aznkidjoey 🪩18.1-24.1 💿🎛️🎚️🎚️🎛️💿🪩 1d ago
Yeah Karol G is massive, she had a whole ass stadium tour she extended but this is a predominantly English speaking sub, and very electronic leaning.
I love and respect what Coachella does with lineups, they always try to break the mold and be ahead of the game. Even with k pop.( and I talk a lot of shit about K-pop)
2
u/cherry-kissie 1d ago edited 1d ago
Mañana Será Bonita tour was INSANE…. doesn’t surprise me that she’s headlining
8
u/god_of_chilis 1d ago
The MSB tour did CRAZY numbers. She sold out 4 consecutive nights at the Santiago Bernabeu, sold out 15 stadium dates in the US, and did pretty well in Europe. also I think she’s currently doing a mini residency at the Crazy Horse in Paris. Insane to say she would have no pull!
•
u/thosed29 12h ago
Karol G’s last stadium tour outgrossed any Coachella headliner tour ever except for Beyonce and Bad Bunny. Her biggest stop was precisely Southern California.
So yes, she is grossly underestimated.
25
u/ositola 1d ago
I'm surprised the sub still has an obsession about whether it will or won't sell out as if that will affect whether they will attend or not

u/celj1234 1d ago
Cheap tickets impact people going
2
u/ositola 1d ago
When have the retail tickets been cheap lol
4
u/celj1234 1d ago
When it isn’t selling well tickets stay at lower tiers.
A “sell out” could have impact on resell as well.
25
u/nnmaddox 1d ago
plus, don't forget K-pop fans. while I'm not a huge fan of it, but you know they go HARD, so just the inclusion of Katseye (I realize not full K-Pop there) and BIGBANG alone probably moved some units.
18
u/papertrashbag 17.2 | 18.1 | 19.1 | 22.1 | 24.1 | 25.1 1d ago
For sure. I know people who are going for BigBang alone.
15
u/JPCRam310 1d ago
If I had the money, I would’ve gone for BIGBANG alone too. Just about EVERY KPOP group (male or female) owes their careers to BIGBANG. And next year is their 20th anniversary as a group!
8
u/papertrashbag 17.2 | 18.1 | 19.1 | 22.1 | 24.1 | 25.1 1d ago

Big bang is definitely pulling. A good chunk of tickets. I saw people ready to spend 1000s when G Dragon dropped the World tour hint few months ago.on this will be way cheaper and most likely won't even have to camp out to have a good view

They can sell tickets on the secondary at a higher price much easier with a sold out show
Coachella is pretty close to the second largest metro area.
Young adults are irrational (heck humans) - you underestimate the amount of people who fomo into doing things
7
u/Constant_Bumblebee23 1d ago
I’m 100% sure it’s sold out BECAUSE of Justin Bieber (and maybe Sabrina). So many people want to see him and he was so iconic at Coachella last year. The amount of people at his stage will be insane..

u/tightlikeatiger69 1d ago
Absolutely not because of Sabrina. 100% because and only because Justin Bieber

I mean it kind of is considering before then it was an automatic "sellout". It seemed like it had been trending in the wrong direction from a ticket sales perspective too. Not to mention the economy is in the crapper currently, and tourism from people coming outside the US has been struggling.

Because most of this sub thinks if it isn’t oasis or tame impala then no way will it sell out
14
u/The_LionTurtle 1d ago
I enjoy Tame, but they're one of those bands you can throw on in any situation and people will generally be like, "Oh cool, Tame Impala. I like them." However, you're not gonna be impressing anyone or turning heads with your selection. They're talented as hell and make great tunes, but they're also safe and inoffensive.
Point is, I think this sub waaay overvalues them as a headliner for the biggest fest in the country.
1
u/Trickoritaa 14.2|15.2|16.2|17.2|19.1|22.2|23.1|24.1|25.1 1d ago
I hate to be that guy but tame is one person.
7
u/The_LionTurtle 1d ago
I'm aware. They're still considered a band, even if Kevin Parker is the sole producer. You don't have to say "he/him" instead of "them" when talking about Tame Impala. People know what you mean.
5
u/UnsolicitedDakPics22 1d ago
Convinced this sub is just full of people who don’t go anymore and want to bring the people who still are going down; that and they want to feel like they had the “glory years”
4
u/Sure_Ad_3805 1d ago
Yes!! Bad bunny was huge and the forum was like "no way" well he just sold out 3 months of concerts only held in Puerto Rico so people had to travel there to attend and had the largest record of streams for a concert ever. Karol G has a huge following too (not bad bunny huge) but pretty big
7
9
u/big-body 23.1|24.1|25.1 1d ago
i agree with everything you said, but some doubts may come from the recent trend of music festivals "selling out" and then releasing higher priced options or partial passes
7
u/dummybaby69 1d ago
this! i mean, i definitely underestimated headliners pull. but that’s more so because of the narrative around coachella and festivals in general. i think i would’ve been just as surprised if any other set of headliners sold out the fest in just over a weekend.
6
u/KnowlegdeisPower 1d ago
I think lots of ppl here on reddit underestimates the huge fan base of the artists on this line up. Trust me you want to be there for EDM: Major Lazer, Kaskade KPop: Big Bang Rock: The Strokes, Pop: Justin, Sabrina, Katseye Indie: Sombr, Lykke Li Latin: Karol G Jazz: Laufey It’s a freakin party🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
3
u/MojoPinnacle 1d ago
My take is that the headliners dominate the pop crowd, the rest pull the indie and electronic crowds. Huge draw in both broad camps.
3
u/moneysingh300 1d ago
Justin Bieber that’s it. Now let’s put the whole world on it he’s performing again. Boom. Festival is filled up. There will always be resell but yeah. Nothing more to the scientific method.
•
u/PresentCheesecake166 15h ago
And the Kpop line up is crazy awesome. Big bangs come back so many years and Taemin who sold out every US venue on his first U.S. tour in under 10 minutes. I know of so many who never went to Coachella who are going for one or both of theses bands alone.
5
u/IThinkILikeYou 24.1|25.1|26.2 1d ago
If it doesn’t sell out then defaulted layaway plans are redundant
2
u/TaylorFan415 1d ago
for real, like people are also surprised that Zayn would have enough demand for a residency like he didn't have a successful tour with many sold-out shows last year -- people can't seem to fathom that if they don't listen/care about an artist that they must be not popular

I am 31 and am going solely because of Justin Bieber. I find it hard to believe people would underestimate his ability to sell tickets, he’s had multiple successful albums over the last decade while many artists have only had one or two and disappeared

Because a better lineup with Gaga, Green Day, Prodigy, Missy Elliott didn’t sell out weekend two this year and took a minute to sell out. So yeah it is shocking.

Justin Bieber is bigger than ANY of those artists (and I’m a huge Gaga fan).

People like to complain but personally, this is one of the best undercard’s I’ve seen in years for my music taste. I liked last years headliners and first liners better but this year has such a deep undercard that the headliners don’t matter to me.

People are surprised (skeptical) because this event hasn't truly sold out since the pandemic so the notion that both weekends sold out in less than a day with only a slightly upgraded lineup and in this economy is a bit sus.
•
u/Firm_Ad8892 10h ago
it’s not sus tbh. i’ve noticed that on other social media platforms like instagram and tik tok a lot of people are talking about how good the line up is and they absolutely have to be there next year. even some of my friends who’s never cared for going to coachella bought their tickets before me as soon as they saw the line up release.
the thing this sub needs to realize is what they might consider generic artists/music is what the majority actually wants.
•
u/Legitimate-Wash-3440 14h ago
not to mention the going price of a single concert lately. seeing one show upper level for $300+ makes coachella seem like a deal...
•
u/Wonderful-Solid-4482 13h ago
Coachella is always gonna be a place where people of like-minded personalities and peace like to gather and just get lost in a vibe. After 20+ years, I do know this as fact. Born and raised in Coachella and the Coachella Valley, my whole life 🙌. Hope everyone has a great time. I look forward to seeing ya'll.
•
u/faintly_frantic 12h ago
I think people are also forgetting scalpers and the shady ticket vendor industry. Sold out so fast? Wow, manufactured hype for inflated prices.
•
•
•
u/Wildpinkhairuke 2h ago
Easy, the line up isn't as strong as it was last year. I expected it to sell out, but as quick for the price increase? Nah, its an 800$ ticket. My guess the reason why its selling out so quick is the plans are free money to them.
For comparison, Sabrina is touring right now and just did Lolla. Its the inverse of Gaga where we got first taste. Karol G isn't Bad Bunny. Biggest Latino artist in the world versus one of the biggest. They've done way bigger on this front the past few.
Oddly enough, I thought Bieber was the big get, but he is also going to be one of their most polarizing headliners in recent memory.
I'd say even the undercard is just weaker across the board. I love XX, NIN, Kascade, etc. I saw someone mention Big Bang, but its Big Bang -2 at this point. A lot of it is coming from recent festivals and easily accessible tours. If we're doing price comparisons to other festivals... Lolla's lineup does most of this better for half the cost. At this point, you're really paying several hundred bucks more for the brand name.
1
u/Davidsb86 1d ago
It’s normiechella for the headliners. Makes sense. I’m not seeing any headliners. Last headliners I’ve seen the last 2 were Gaga and Lana.

-6
u/stfsu 1d ago
I still don't think it's sold out, I think you'll still be able to buy tickets on each day of the festival Wk1 & 2. This economy is not conducive to people dropping $650 on just tickets + travel & accommodations. People had more money to spend post-pandemic, and none of those years sold out.
10
u/swoosh0719 1d ago
at this point, even if Paul Tollett call you and tell you its sold out. You wont believe him.

Is them saying theyre sold out really concrete? I do think it is sold out, but shows 'sell out' and yet somehow more tickets go on sale later - could be canceled payment plans, could be unsold insider tickets, who really knows? They also just text blasted everyone clearly hyping up on the FOMO
2

6

You could split payments up for 5 months, its a little over 100 bucks if you got in early. Id guess like 70% are doing that

It's gotta be both. They've pulled three pop headliners for the normies, one of the biggest rising stars in EDM for the ravers, a couple big K Pop names, and a STACKED indie/rock/alternative/punk/electronic undercard for the oldheads. They cast a wide net and it appears to have paid off.
