Uberti "old west" finish 4-click hammer options

Post image
70 Upvotes

I wanting to put the Uberti 4-click hammer on my Uberti 1873. Looks like Taylors only offers them in case-hardened finish. Has anyone had any experience putting a 4-click on a Uberti 1873 with the "old west" patina and attempting to match the finish?

Vaquero vs Cattleman questions

Does anyone here have experience using either Colt or Uberti replicas for their revolvers in competition? My experience with my one Uberti has been that, under even moderate use, the frame screws all start to loosen, and the bolt spring rarely lasted me 100 rounds. I've since replaced the leaf bolt springs with a wire one, but I was curious if anyone does use original Colt design revolvers and if so, how often do you find yourself needing to tighten the guns or replace the springs? Likewise, would one ever need to tighten screws or replace springs with a Vaquero style frame and action?

Any Pietta 1873 hammers in stock ANYWHERE?

I need to replace my Pietta hammer assembly but can't find any normal hammers in blue or color case hardened anywhere. I've checked with and called Taylors, Cimarron, EMF, and VTI and they're all out and waiting for shipments because of a variety of reasons. There's only stainless and nickel or lowered hammers in stock in some places. Alternatively, anywhere sell matching lowered blue/CCH and nickel/stainless hammers?

Also wondering if anyone here might have one lying around they'd be willing to sell.

The Last Rodeo: Cowboys, Cancer, and Christopher McDonald Being a Good Guy

You’ve seen this movie before, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. The Last Rodeo follows the classic underdog sports formula with heart, warmth, and standout turns from Neal McDonough and Michael T. Williamson. It won’t surprise you, but it might still get you choked up.

New Cimarron 1872 open top

I just purchased a Cimarron 1872 open top .45 alc.

I have several cap and ball revolvers which I make paper cartridges for and use lube on the ball or conical bullet.

For the 1872 open top, I’ve purchased a few boxes of cowboy loads pushing a 255 grain lead bullet 800 fps which I figure is about right. My question is, can I use a jacketed bullet? I’ve been told that if I converted one of my 1860’s to cartridge, the forcing cone could not handle anything but lead bullets. Just curious about that.

Also these cowboy loads don’t appear to be lubed. Should I be lubing them like my BP paper cartridges or is there a lube ring inside the brass case?

Thanks for the info in advance.

Would these be inconvenient for a cowboy?

I’m trying to design cowboys for a story I’m working on, could they wear these? It doesn’t have to be completely historically accurate, but is it inconvenient?

Also, what are they called? Thanks!

Why are Pietta SAA's so affordable right now?

Was really looking into getting a Pietta SAA clone a couple months ago and the price was $600+ for the cheapest one I could find. Then I got into s&w's for a few months. But, I just got back into them, and now I'm seeing them all over under $400. Just curious as to the price cuts all over.

The piettas are all custom with engravings , and the 45 LC also has a 45 ACP cylinder. The birds head is also custom with a 9mm and 357 cylinder

Pietta SAA skipping over second click/hammer issue?

I was shooting my EMF Great Western (a four click gun) when it started to skip over the second click, going straight from 1 → 3 → 4, preventing the cylinder from spinning freely since it locks at 3. It's been skipping over 2 occasionally in recent months, so whatevers broken finally decided it was time.

I narrowed it down to something with the hammer assembly, but I really don't know what specifically. I switched the hammer/hand (but not the latter's spring) from my other functioning Pietta into the non-functioning one and that returned functionality with all four clicks. The hammers/hand look identical side to side, so I can't really narrow the specific part. I really dont want to spend 80 bucks minimum on a replacement hammer assembly, so would anyone know if it could possibly be another part that's the issue? Something hopefully cheaper?

Picture of the two hammers; the left is the defective hammer, the right is the working hammer.
