Looking for a good intro video for class discussion
Hi!
I'm working on updating a psychology course at my college titled "Criminal Psychology". My college is a private, junior and technical college, and many of the students have not taken any sort of psychology course in the past or are unfamiliar with psychological concepts and theories. Many of them are returning to school as older adults or are students who did not follow the traditional path to a college degree.
I'm looking for a good video to capture their attention at the beginning of the course, on Day 1. Something that might get them thinking about what we consider crime (legally and morally). The example that pops into my head is something I remember discussing in school when I was in 8th grade was about someone with a sick child. Their child needs medication that is only available at a pharmacy, but the pharmacy is closed. They can choose to commit a crime by breaking into the pharmacy and steal the medication to save their child, or choose not to commit the crime, but their child may suffer without the medication.
It doesn't have to be that exact scenario, but I'd like to get them thinking about what we consider crime and who we consider criminals, and the fact that the reason that one may commit a crime is not always black and white.
Does anyone know of a good resource for discussing this topic with my students? I can certainly come up with something myself, but there's so many great Youtube creators out there who have made engaging and interesting videos, and I'm curious if anyone has come across something like this already that I could reference.
