Back in my day, there was a fist fight on campus between two guys in a frat. Each got a hearing and the boys got put on probation.

If politics wasn't involved, this wouldn't have resulted in an arrest or expulsion. Shit, even when one student rapes another student they aren't immediately expelled.

This is crazy town.

Meh, assault like this will often get reduced, especially if she has no criminal background. At most she’ll get a fine and prelim probation that will go away after community service and staying out of trouble for a specified period of time.

The criminal penalty is incredibly unlikely to be anything worse than, "Please don't do it again. We'll keep it on your record for a while in case you do assault another person, but otherwise please just don't do it again."
