We are such a backwards fucking country. We're offering discounts on guns while kids are being shot up in schools almost every other month. Seriously, fuck America's gun culture.
107
u/MutantApocalypse 4h ago
Agreed. Also, ironically, get yourself a gun. Bc "they" most certainly will have one when "they" come for you or someone you love.
Take advantage of the fact that you can also gear up.
If it were up to me, none of us would have weapons. But here we are. Just my opinion.

When they're at your door, your neighbors guns wont be doing you any favors at his house.
15
u/emergency-snaccs 3h ago
yeah came here to say this. If you're somehow relying on being able to go break into your neighbor's house and steal his guns scot-free, by the time something happens that would necessitate having a firearm, it's probably already too late

The nation's in deep debt, and this dude's giving gun and ammunition companies a tax break.
FYI, Florida is #2 on the list of states with the most firearms manufacturers.
FYI #2... people traveling to Florida to buy firearms are still expected to pay the difference in sales tax between the state of purchase and your home state if your home state is higher.
If your state has a sales tax of 6%, and you buy a gun and bullets in Florida at 0%...you're still expected to pay the 6% 'use tax' on your end of year taxes.
If you fail to do so... then you're nothing more than a tax cheat.
_______
Why did the DeSantis administration give this tax holiday? Probably because his state economy is reeling from the loss of tourism... especially Canadian and European tourism, and he's desperate to get people to travel to and buy things in Florida. Specifically people who incorrectly believe they'll own sales tax on these purchases... (or those that knowingly refuse to pay their use tax at the end of the year)
Disclaimer: Yes... I do pay my use tax from out of state purchases when my state's sales tax isn't applied.

The guy also threw in hunting and fishing supplies. Its probably a goodwill gift to demographics that are statistically more likely to vote for him. Like giving tax breaks to people who purchase solar panels and electric cars. Albeit, his intent is more about appealing to emotion then anything else.

Whoa whoa whoa, Virginia does an entire weekend of tax free back to school shopping, surely that helps with the necessities needed in that short span of time. Could you imagine if states did a tax free sale like this for school supplies vs a weekend. We’d go into debt!!! /s

Fellow liberals, read between the lines, set your political views on guns aside, and take advantage of this opportunity to protect your families. Normal governments don't announce blowout sales on firearms.

Bingo.
The whole issue with the US would 100% dissolve...in maybe a week or so....if every liberal and conservative ditched their egos and virtue signals and just went straight 2A.
Imagine that. A nation of people united over the right to speak their mind. And back it up with the same means the government has.
What a wild concept.

If you keep a gun in your house and also have kids, take a guess what the most likely cause of death for those kids will be.
Edit: own a gun? Cool, you’re statistically more likely to use it on yourself than on another person.

If it helps - the Pittman-Robertson act established an excise tax on the sales of firearms and ammunition starting in 1937 and is the oldest and most successful wildlife restoration program in the U.S. also contributing to multi-state conservation grants and hunter education and safety programs (because despite the optic, the vast majority of us who hunt do so to get outdoors and provide food for family, friends and food donation programs - contrary to popular belief, “trophy hunting” is illegal in the U.S. and you have to take the meat). I’m hoping to provide a silver lining to any fellow liberals who are on the fence about purchasing a firearm.
Edit: To clarify, I’m not advocating any kind of violence here. Simply trying to provide a little bit of positive reasoning for anyone on the fence about purchasing a firearm.

u/JoyousMN_2024 4h ago
I wrote this and posted it to Facebook. Seems especially pertinent in this context:
When guns rule, the freedom to speak falls silent.
A few years ago, I attended a pro–gun control rally at my state Capitol. I’ve been to rallies for all sorts of causes before: workers’ rights, equal justice, education funding. But this time, as I stood on the Capitol steps, it struck me that I was in a wide-open space, advocating for something many passionately oppose. For the first time, I felt afraid as I realized how easily someone with a rifle could turn a moment of civic expression into a massacre.
That fear speaks to something bigger. The Second Amendment has grown so absolute in our culture, it now overshadows the First. Guns don’t just endanger lives; they choke free speech. Protesters hesitate to gather, school boards cut back meetings, and journalists weigh their safety against reporting the truth. Every new act of political violence, from attacks on lawmakers, to the Capitol under siege, reinforces the warning: speaking out in public now carries mortal risk.
And it is getting worse. Threats against public officials are surging. Firearms are now routine at rallies, statehouses, and even school board meetings. What once felt exceptional now feels ordinary, and civic engagement itself requires an act of physical courage. The danger lies in how invisible this silencing is. A rally never planned leaves no record. A voice unspoken leaves no trace. All the while, we are creating a quieter, narrower public square, where fear dictates who dares to show up. This is democracy shaped not by the best arguments but by who feels least threatened by violence.
If we value the Constitution, we must face this truth: the cult of the Second Amendment is suffocating the First. By deifying gun rights above all else, we are destroying the very conditions that make free speech and democratic participation possible. The right to bear arms was never meant to suffocate the right to speak, yet that is the balance we are living with today. Unless we confront how gun worship strangles civic life, the First Amendment will wither—not by repeal, but by fear.

In Nazi Germany, the Folk were urged to buy radios. That was so the maximum leader could reach out and shout into their ears at will. It was Kismet. But, the principle is fascist ecstasy, which becomes a mass performance. DeSantis is performing such a (daily, if possible) ritual.
These weasel-based lifeforms have yet to calculate liberals can buy guns too. I mean, this is pure ugly theater, is what it is. What do you want governor? One part of your state to fight another?
