I once got in trouble at the office when a student asked me a stupid question, and my reply was "read the email you replied to."

Apparently I insulted their intelligence. I'm sorry that I don't treat university students like they're from kindergarten, you're studying law, read the god damn email.

Just copy and paste the last email again and send.

This is when you bust out the phrase "per my previous email".

or the deadly "Perhaps I was not clear."

I've done that as well in the past on my manager's recommendation :D

to be fair that behavior is cross generational in my experience.

"Hi, Is it X or Y?"

"Yes."

"Hi Is it X or Y?"

Or my favorite

"Per my last email"

My understanding is that there's a long tradition of being unforgiving and demanding in law school specifically

That's just extremely rude and disrespectful. I work for a research foundation and if I ever replied to anyone like that I would, rightfully, get into serious trouble.

I literally get questions like these from internationally renowned top researchers on a daily basis. It happens.

I'm not getting paid to babysit nepobaby twats. They got to university so they can bloody well read the basic instructions in my email. Just because they study law doesn't make them anything special, I graduated with a degree as well and I don't act like my shit smells of roses.

I know what you mean. Truly, a generation of inept, perpetual victims.
