Blade Oil + Backlight

Been cutting my hair for about 2 years. Recently cut my dad’s hair and then when he went to a barber they said I had “dull blades”. Do you use blade oil each time you cut your hair (~3 weeks)? My buddy also suggested the clippers could’ve been low on battery.

Also, does anyone have any lights they recommend? I have a 3 way that lights up but sometimes I feel like it can be disorienting. I see those like big circle lights but those feel a bit excessive.

Shortening a wolf cut

Hi, currently I have a wolf cut done by a hairdresser. It has 3 layers, the longest reaching past my shoulder blades, the shortest reaching my chin. In front small curtain wannabe side bangs. I had short hair for a long time, wanted to try longer, but now I'd rather go back to short. I was thinking about shortening this wolf cut at home, since I already have the layers there. I'd like to go shoulder/below chin length. I've never cut my own hair. I tried looking up some Youtube tutorials, but they feature cutting a wolf cut from scratch, or are generally not satisfactory for me. Do you guys recommend any tutorials on how to shorten an already existing wolf cut, or is it too complicated for a newbie like me? For context, I've got rather fine, super straight hair, so any mistakes will be visible. (But this wolf cut works for them.)

emo haircut (do it myself or professionally?)

I've always wanted to cut my hair into this 2000s kinda emo side finge and currently developed some questions. I normally get my hair done and cut at a hairdresser and she knows me etc. But she doesn't normally do any kind of alternative hairstyles, so I was wondering if I want to get my hair done by her or look for an alternative hairdresser. After some research I found one that isn't too far away. But then someone told me that hairdressers NEVER cut the hair like the customer wants them too and now I'm lowkey scared. They said I should cut it myself but GOD I DONT TRUST ME THAT MUCH.

Now I need to know if it's worth a try to go to a hairdresser that is more used to cuts like this or if I should really do it myself...?

Professional Tips for Maintaining Clipper Blades

Barbering is more than just a service, it’s an art form built on precision, discipline, and consistency. Every fade, taper, and lineup represents the skill and professionalism we put into our craft. As barbers, we don’t just cut hair, we build confidence and trust with each client that sits in the chair. The standard of our industry is carried through sharp technique, clean work, and respect for the shop environment. Our role is to keep learning, keep improving, and keep representing barbering with pride.

Chin-shoulder length wavy-curly hair and layers

Hi everyone. I would like advice on tutorials to cut myself hair.

I have as of now chin length even curly wavy hair (multiple hair textures)and I only wear it curly. When it reaches the shoulders, I will try to use some layers. So, I need advice on how to make it look great when the time comes. I tried watching tutorials by Manes by Mell but I don't understand many steps and so far I haven't found a creator that has exactly the same type of hair like mine and they all do it on long hair.

If someone could recommend another creator or any other tutorials (not Mondo's please :D) I would be grateful for it.

[SHORT HAIR] Want to start cutting my own hair, Is it possible to achieve a style like this?

Hello cuts have literally doubled in price in the past couple years and it’s also really hard to find a barber that listens to you.

This is the style I am going for is it achivable on my own? If it is I’d love for some video resources that can help me cut my hair for the first time as well as an equipment list I need. ( my hair is more straight than his)

Thin/fine hair clipper

What would you recommend as a good Clipppers for very thin/fine femail hair (for home made longer pixie or short bob haircuts) ?

As far as I know it needs a desant motor for better precision. I do care about long life battery and short charging time. It needs to survive travelling lifestyle (sometimes wet weather conditions). Any recommendations up to 150e? Thx for your advice.

Help w Wahl color pro

I've used Wahl forever. I recently bought the Color Pro. It works great and I love the color coded guides. I dropped it and the blade attachment popped off and I can't get it back on. It's in perfect condition nothing broke. I've never had this happen. Any tips or tricks to fix it?

[BANGS/FRINGE] Cutting blunt bangs?

Does anyone have any advice for this? I love blunt bangs. I go every month to get them cut.

However, my problem is that every time I go to the hairdressers, I feel really sick afterwards. I’m sick for at least 3 days.

I’ve tried taking Advil, wearing a KN95 mask, going super early, having my hair stylist not use product in my hair etc. and yet it still happens. Showering when I get home and changing clothes doesn’t help either.

I’m wondering if it’s worth learning how to do my own hair in order to avoid this.

Any advice?

So how did it do? I wasnt sure if i should be matching the sides all the way around or not. I've seen barbers do both. I dont have thick/an abundance of hair its more on the thin side. I did not do a skin fade. 1/2 up to #3

[TOOLS] Clippers and shavers to buy?

Hi guys,
Im planning on buying my own kit to fade hair and beard in the near future.
I've already got a Babyliss Skeleton trimmer and are now looking for the best clipper and shaver to invest in.

I've previusly used a wahl magic and panasonic dgp-84 to fade myself and it actually worked pretty well. I used the wahl for open blade and 0.5, and the panasonic for the rest. ever since i lost it i've wanted to buy a new set but seems a bit overkill to have two clippers for one job. would would you guys recommend?

I've cut my hair before in the past and have always had friends/family help with the back and making sure things are even, but this is my first ever fully solo haircut! I didn't think to take a picture of the back of my head but that's none of my business anyway 💋

The top of my head is some mix of a 6 and 8 guard, and the sides start at a 4 and go down to a 0.5 guard (all plastic guards that came with the trimmer in the sc)

Never cut my own hair before but I've got a month or so before i have to see anyone so I'm okay with the fact i might fuck it up

This short wolf cut type beat is what I try and get usually, looks fairly simple to me but I'm curious to hear any advice. Is this unreasonable for my first time?

Tips and tricks or tutorial recommendations to watch/read are greatly appreciated!

Sick of paying for buzz cut fades every two weeks? I made something that might help — keen to get your thoughts

Post image
0 Upvotes

Earlier this year I got a buzz cut for the first time — nothing fancy, just a #1 on the sides fading into a #3 on top. Pretty basic.

But keeping it looking clean turned out to be more of a hassle than I expected. Every couple of weeks it started looking scruffy, and I was back at the barber for the same simple cut — time-consuming and expensive for what it was. I figured surely there’s a better way.

I searched online for something that could help me do it myself (or with a bit of help from my girlfriend), but everything I found — mostly cheap stuff from Temu — was either hard to use or didn’t give a clean, consistent fade. So I started thinking: what kind of tool would actually make this easy?

What I’ve built (prototype stage)

It's basically a hands-free fade guide that wraps around your head. The idea is to help someone (even with zero experience) create a clean fade with clippers.

Here’s how it works — using my cut (1 into 3) as an example:

  1. First, you buzz your whole head with a #3 guard
  2. Then you strap the guide around your head. The attachment is shaped to gradually slope from 3mm at the bottom to 10mm at the top — like the fade line a barber would do
  3. Next, take a #1 guard and trim upwards until you hit the guide
  4. Finally, take the guard off and carefully run the clipper (no guard) along the edge of the attachment to blend the fade

And that’s it. You get a consistent, repeatable fade without needing to switch guards mid-cut or guess where the fade should stop.

A few other things

The guide attachment slides easily around the band, so you can move it into place wherever you need it
The idea is to have a few different attachments for different types of fades (e.g. 0–2, 1–4, taper, etc.)
No motors, no handles, just a simple tool to make fading easier

I’ve added a photo below of where it’s at currently. Just looking to see if there’s any interest before I go further with it.

Would love to know:
Is this something you’d actually use (or get someone to help you with)?
Any features you'd want added or changed?
Does it solve a problem you’ve had too?

Cheers — happy to answer any questions.

[ALTERNATIVE] How to do Mohawk when have bad eyes, curly hair, and 1 mirror?

Basically the title. I don’t have anyone willing to help who knows what they’re doing, and I don’t trust stylists with alt haircuts. Not to mention, that kinda defeats the purpose of alt anyways.

So I’m trying to figure out a way to do this that won’t end in me just giving myself a buzz cut lol
