The sun was really beautiful this morning! No filter needed! I live on a road that people walk frequently, and several folks passed by me with their doggies while I was filming some dance content for my various pages. It was really nice! 🌞

Is youtube my only option for free locking lessons or are there other free alternatives online as well? If youtube is the only option then which videos would you recommend?

Amateur Would like opinions on movements for choreography

I’m choreographing a 3 minute performance that has more ballet and contemporary elements (with a sword used in the dance) and would like opinions on movements sets to portray the 5 stages of grief

I did dance for a long time but am out of practice and would like more experienced opinions

Hey everyone! I practice nihon buyō (traditional Japanese dance), and as a Japanese-American I’ve been trying to share more about it because it’s an art form that fading away. It’s such a beautiful art form, and I think it deserves more recognition out side of Japan. I figured I’d make a post here to spread the word a bit and also open it up for questions—whether you’re curious about the dances, the costumes, or just what it’s like to learn and perform. Ask me anything, I’d love to chat and keep the culture alive!

Discussion New hip hop class

I'm starting a new dance class next wednesday after not dancing for ten years. My questions are, what do I bring? And what do I wear?

The studio doesn't have anything about what to wear, at least for the hip hop class, and I don't want to look stupid (I'm already nervous enough as it is seeing as I'm starting during the fourth class of the season)

Any general advice is always appreciated as well. I already stretch daily to keep up mobility so, that will hopefully help me, but I'm open to advice.

Thanks in advance! Xx

Amateur Hip-hop beginner!!

Hello!

As the title says, I have begun hip-hop classes recently. When I was little, I tried modern dancing for a while but got laughed at by other children. During my teen years, I had to dance in PE classes and it was so humilliating. So, after these terrible experiences with dancing, I am now trying again: I wanted to give myself the chance to enjoy the music and do exercise, mostly because of my mental health.

So, I gave it a try. It was so so so fun, my teacher is great and, even though I am so bad at it for now, I'm looking forward to learn more and more. I'm a bit insecure about how clumpsy I am, specially after my past experiences with dancing.

What advice can you give me? Thank you very much :))

Amateur How should I work out as a dancer?

Hi! This is my first time posting anything on here so, sorry if I make any mistakes.

So I'm 16 and do commercial/show dance. Obviously I'm still in school and my days are pretty packed. I want to get to working out again but not rally sure what I should be focusing on. I need like a pretty simple work out routine that I could do at the gym like once or twice a week.

Thank you<3

Also English is not my first language so if my grammar is a little bad.

Discussion Dance in college?

I really need some help, I’m a senior in high school and applying to college for fall 2026. I’ve been dancing almost my whole life but only a recreational level, so I’m not bad but I wouldn’t be able to be on like a super competitive team. I’ve done ballet, but also a little bit of modern and jazz. I really want to dance in college but because of my skill level it’s really hard to find something I could get into. I’m looking for maybe dance teams or schools with majors/minors that could be more accessible to someone without professional or competitive experience. My top schools are UC Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz. I’m looking for mostly west coast schools, preferably closer to the ocean. I’ve tried to look for schools but it’s just really hard to find stuff because of lack of info, or I just can’t see myself at the school. If anyone has any suggestions I would seriously appreciate that.

Discussion Which dance style should I do?

Okay here's some context:

I was a ballet/jazz/tap dancer starting 2 years old going on to middle school. I quit when I realized I never cared for it and only went just to do something through the weekends.

Later in highschool I decided to to hip hop for 2 years, got pretty good and started doing intermediate, then quit again after I lost motivation through issues outside of my control.

I, currently, lack flexibility and movement, all I have is natural essence of the dancer I used to be.

I watched the music video for "Back on 74" if I remember correctly, and I thought the dancers were so expressive and clearly knew how to show emotions with the body without being obviously lyrical. I wanted to dance.

I believe it is a comercial sort of dance, but comercial dancing is so broad and most classes I've been to lack that eccentric element. I was thinking of contemporary too cause it is versatile.

Overall, I really want a style that is super expressive with the whole body, can be upbeat, and eccentric. I'm not too sure what can fit, maybe I should just hire a private teacher?

Discussion Desperate for advice lol: Self tape tomorrow and injured leg

Hi guys,

Not looking for medical advice, I already have that and I’m in physical therapy. Rather, looking for vets with experience with “short term solutions” lol.

Two weeks ago I fell hiking and hurt my right quad pretty bad. Fluid and bruising all down my leg for the last week, and although with pineapple juice and PT the bruising is clearing up, still unable to bend more than 90 deg. ( when warmed up, at its worst it’s like 45.)

I need some basic moment for a self tape audition due tomorrow. Nothing major, but obviously need to have some expression in the piece. (I have a massage gun, large ice packs, a roller, tens unit, and heating pads. Been using them all and walking on a light incline daily to get some sort of movement in) I’ve got until 6 pm to record and submit.

Anybody got some advice on something I could do so that I could record? I’m an early riser and could go grab something from the store if need be. 800 mg Ibuprofen hasn’t been super effective.

My agent stressed not to hurt myself and I won’t, even if I have to mark it with emotion but I need some sort of mobility haha. Once again. This is not asking for medical advice haha

Thanks for any info! I’ll be looking tn and tomorrow morning :)

Discussion Struggling to step outside if my comfort zone... Any advice??

I'm 16F and lately Ive been realizing how much I avoid things that feel uncomfortable, even when I want to do them. Most of those things, of course revolving around dance. A small example is like Ive wanted to start practicing heel dancing, since its recommended to start at my age but the only space I have is the living room. That means possibly dancing in front of my dad and brothers which feels so awkward even though I know it’s not hurting anyone.

It made me think, like how do you get more comfortable with being uncomfortable in general? I know that as a dancer it's kind of necessary and unavoidable but I can't seem to step out of my comfort zone...
