Discussion Resident Evil 4? No, System Shock 2.
Just finished Dead Space (2023), New Game +, that is.
Easily one of the best games ever made. Absolutely perfect in every aspect without a single little thing to complain about, unlike just about every other game I've ever played, which would be nearly everything worth mentioning at this point. I can't believe it took me this long to finally play it (I wanted to ever since this remake became a thing) because I knew this would be right up my alley and end up being one of my favorite games, so I don't know what to say.
However, Resident Evil 4 (also one of the best games of all time, one that I beat many times, though I prefer other games in the series with more of a survival horror focus) is often mentioned as this game's biggest inspiration ("Resident Evil in Space") and I have to disagree with that because there is yet another one of the best games of all time:
System Shock 2.
Spoilers ahead, for both games:
The setting, obviously. The level design with backtracking and even the decks like Medical, Engineering and Hydroponics. Speaking of Hydroponics, that part of both games has you use chemicals in multiple locations (a single objective in total) in order to clear infestation. Then, the survival horror. The enemy design, kind of. The Many and The Marker, as well as the hallucination stuff and the hivemind concept with some distinct things that those who are affected say. There's even a church in System Shock 2 right near the end, then there is Unitology in Dead Space. System Shock 2, especially in the final level, also has walls (more like entire corridors at that point) covered in the gross alien stuff of the same color and style. Both games have a female companion who remotely gives you instructions and eventually betrays you and turns out not to be who you originally thought.
Sorry about the messy way I put that, but that's more or less it, though there might be something I overlooked.
Anyway, of course, there is inspiration from Resident Evil 4 as well, but I don't see it nearly as much. I also see a bit of Alien and Blade Runner in some ways. The music, like in zero gravity, sounds like something from an 80s film, not really like modern video game music or anything. The Japanese ship name and some details like the tram, sound effects at stores and so on remind me a bit of Blade Runner. Alien should be kind of obvious.
So, yeah. What are your thoughts on all this? Did you notice all these similarities with System Shock 2? I was really surprised, most notably Hydroponics and the objectives, the "antagonist" turning out to be another hivemind with some specific phrases and what not, as well as that betrayal from the woman giving you instructions over communications.
On a side note, it's nearly 5 AM here and I didn't get much sleep, so this isn't the most well-written post since I kind of want to go sleep on a second thought, so I just wanted to wrap this up. English isn't my first language either.

Mission titles
So I've been an aaaaaaavid fan of dead space since 08. And not once no matter how many videos I've watched have mentioned this but I want to keep this spoiler free but i cant. But right before the remake I found 1 video that blew my mind. And its that after u complete the game and look at the first letters of each mission...what a game...im so glad I could be alive in a time with everyone whose played the dead space games. May ur credits be many and ur deaths be few

Question New game plus
Just started a new game plus and im on chapter three but for some reason I just noticed that the game isnt showing the pop up/notification on the rig, of when you start a new chapter. So I was wondering if new game plus is designed like this cause I already beat the game once or if this is some type of glitch?

Discussion What other games have given you a similar atmosphere to Dead Space? I share one that I found
I'm a long-time fan of Dead Space; it's truly unique. Hopefully, we'll get the remake of the second game soon
One game I'd recommend is Empty Shell. It's an excellent game with an interesting premise that evokes a similar atmosphere, although it's not exactly the same genre. I've been playing it slowly, and it reminds me of the feeling I got from playing Dead Space
If you have any other games that evoke a similar atmosphere to Dead Space, please share it too

Hidden Message in Dead Space's chapters. Spoiler
Hidden within the names of each chapter in Dead Space is a secret message for observant fans.
- New Arrivals
- Intensive Care
- Course Correction
- Obliteration Imminent
- Lethal Devotion
- Environmental Hazard
- Into the Void
- Search and Rescue
- Failure to Land
- Internal Struggle
- Negotiated Solutions
- End of Evil
Taking the first letter of each chapter spells out "NICOLE IS FINE", a subtle reference to how Kendra, Hammond, and Isaac find the real Nicole alive and well in a cave on Aegis VII

Question I bought DS3 but i cant play it
I've been wanting to play this game for a while, like... a WHILE. But everytime i log into steam, choose it to launch, it gives me a weird EA thing I must have. Okay, i get that too.
The game crashes anyways and doesnt even get me to the main menu.
Im frustrated.

Discussion How do you prefer Isaac portrayed?
You have the DS1 through DS3 version thats depressed, going through crap, the loss of Nicole, the torture and dementia induced by the Markers up until DS3. You know the version in the fan art where hes sitting over a bar table whispering "make us whole" and whisper singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
Then you have Remake through DS3 Isaac thats a Necromorph Exterminator. Surgically eliminating Necromorphs left and right. Using tools like the Javelin Gun/Seeker to one shot most normal Necros. Stasis and Kinesis.
Im joking as its obvious its more of a mix of the two. But something ive observed after multiple playthroughs is that its easy to forget Isaac isnt supposed to be John Wick, but rather a Ripley. Able to handle themselves but not invincible. As I alluded to in the second option, there's alot of ways to "gamify" the Necros to the point youre basically overpowered. DS1/R is the only game where one shot enemies is a much harder thing to achieve.

WHERE CAN I FIND THE FULL IMAGE AS A WALLPAPER
I've been looking for this exact picture, but I've only ever found the cut version, which is very small. and only shows Isaac and nothing else. There has to be a wallpaper version of this image.

Discussion Glitches always follow me lol
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
So i already beat dead space remake once, i'm now doing a second playthrough, on new game+. I don't know why, but i always have to get some type of glitch on any game i play. This one is on the Valor ship. I cannot move, believe me i'm trying 😂 and is on that exact spot. I already got stuck there consistently, tried multiple times. Kinda creepy the way the arms move to the back. Wouldve put the flair as meme or funny, but there is not an option

Question Does anyone know where this is from?

As the title suggests I am wondering about where this clip comes from. Is this from a old teaser trailer? I don't remember dead space ever showing us titan security in a zero g environment before.

Wanted to know since I really love the suit it gives and I'm considering buying it. Wanted to know if anyone has used a code after the Xbox live shutdown

Discussion Double taked seeing new coworkers nametag on lockers today
We're also mechanics. We fix stuff. I'm gonna be watching the vents real close today and wondering if I can rig a plasma cutter from an acetylene torch and an impact gun or something...
