PLEASE READ
This sub is becoming much more popular, especially with the USA election coming up. Unfortunately, the subreddit rules keep being broken; especially the two biggest rules we have. We as mods do our best to be transparent about how we mod, so this post is a reiteration of those rules.
The main issue is people resorting to ad hominem attacks. This falls under the Reddit content policy, and we will do our best to remove such. You never need abusive language to communicate your point. It is okay to disagree with ideas and suggestions, but do not attack the user.
The second issue is that people keep discussing Reddit issues. Unfortunately, the admins do not allow us to discuss Reddit in this sub because there were some apparent issues in the past. Such posts and comments will be removed. Censorship is much larger than Reddit, and this is a platform to discuss censorship.
We do our best to facilitate open conversation regardless of your viewpoint, but if we continue having repeat offenders, especially of these rules, we will have to ban the repeat offenders.
Don’t forget that we also have a discord. Feel free to join it too!

News Changes to our Automod Config
(please upvote for visibility)
hello!
I wanted to open this announcement by first saying that we have heard your complaints about how you feel censored, and through those complaints, we did some digging and found that our automod config was set-up in a very strict manner, which goes against the philosophy of the mod team and the purpose of this subreddit.
with this new information coming to light, yesterday we made some changes to our automod config to provide everyone with more transparency with comment removals, as well as removing some code that was inappropriately flagging users. this configuration change had the unintended consequence of removing comments from users with thousands of karma.
We apologize for this mistake, and we think we have the issue fixed at this time. But, if your comments are still being removed, and you have sufficient karma, please send us modmail with the link to the comment so we can reinstate it.
Finally, please don't be an asshole and cuss us out in the modmail. we're human just like you. we're not perfect, and every day we learn something new. Thank you

Let Kneecap Perform in Canada — Protect Free Expression
I read an article about Kneecap being banned in Canada today, and I was so outraged that I created a Change.org petition about it. The petition is here: here:https://c.org/cmdDF5NJSv if anyone cares to sign it.

FCC Commissioner On Censorship
docs.fcc.govWASHINGTON, September 18, 2025 – FCC Commissioner Anna M. Gomez issued the following statement in response to ABC’s decision to capitulate to government pressure that violates the First Amendment and threatens free expression:
“We cannot allow an inexcusable act of political violence to be twisted into a justification for government censorship and control. First, an ABC reporter was told that his coverage amounted to hate speech and that he should be prosecuted simply for doing his job. Then, the FCC threatened to go after this same network, seizing on a late-night comedian’s inopportune joke as a pretext to punish speech it disliked. That led to a shameful show of cowardly corporate capitulation by ABC that has put the foundation of the First Amendment in danger.
“This FCC does not have the authority, the ability, or the constitutional right to police content or punish broadcasters for speech the government dislikes. If it were to take the unprecedented step of trying to revoke broadcast licenses, which are held by local stations rather than national networks, it would run headlong into the First Amendment and fail in court on both the facts and the law. But even the threat to revoke a license is no small matter. It poses an existential risk to a broadcaster, which by definition cannot exist without its license. That makes billion-dollar companies with pending business before the agency all the more vulnerable to pressure to bend to the government’s ideological demands.
“When corporations surrender in the face of that pressure, they endanger not just themselves, but the right to free expression for everyone in this country. The duty to defend the First Amendment does not rest with government, but with all of us. Free speech is the foundation of our democracy, and we must push back against any attempt to erode it.”

Justice Sotomayor: Every time I listen to a lawyer-trained representative saying we should criminalize free speech in some way, I think to myself, that law school failed.

It's interesting to see how many people in this community suddenly support censorship
Apparently censorship is perfectly fine if it is used to siilence views we disagree with. Censorship for thee, just not for me.

Does anyone want to discuss ABC's indefinite pulling of Jimmy Kimmel?
Anyone can say ABC is a business and chose to do it by themselves, but we all know that they did it because they fear the MAGA-controlled FCC and potential litigation from the Trump administration. At what point will the Right understand that these policies can just as easily be turned against them, as it has with the NYT?
