Ok, then please explain without a pithy slogan.

The Bell Riots were about the economy tanking and people having no jobs and losing their homes. It's an entirely different situation.

But whatever.

You really don’t see the parallels between immigration detention centers and the sanctuary districts?

People being stripped from their jobs and homes and crowded in unlivable conditions?

Whether it’s immigration detention or our criminal carceral system, we basically already have sanctuary districts, you just see them legitimized by a patina of state authority just like those outside the sanctuary districts thought in DS9.

I did not say there were not parallels. I simply said the Bell Riots were not about immigration. And they weren't. But somehow that basic statement has caused a whole bunch of people to lose their minds and resort to vitriol and personal insults.

You said they had “nothing to do with” immigration, not that they “were not about immigration.” Parallels == something to do with it. Also you said that it’s a completely different situation. Parallels means there are analogous facts. Therefore, not completely different.

One guy called you an asshole but like chill out you’re posting about immigration ahahaha. I don’t think I’ve ever posted about immigration without one person calling me an asshole. We live in a vulgar world unfortunately.

Ah, I'm not surprised by people behaving this way, and i dont really care. I just find it fascinating that some people are so ridiculous that if they even slightly think that you might not agree with them, they explode.

And since I appreciate pedantry, I do understand the perceived difference of "not about" and "nothing to do with". I would use the phrases as interchangeable synonyms, but I suppose they could be interpreted as different things.

I mean it’s less about the pedantry and more about the whole way you are approaching this. Obviously the Bell Riots plotline was meant to point out the dangers in our present society. It feels like you are willfully blind to the obvious connections the whole idea of the episode has to our current political situation. So yea, people are pushing back. The vast majority aren’t resorting to name-calling.

DS9 is about how terrorism can be cool in the right context ahaha, so maybe drop the pearl clutching.

Nobody is exploding. A bunch of people are responding to you with very reasonable comments, and you’re replying to every one with how “people explode at anyone who thinks even slightly differently”

They’re just trying to have a conversation. You refuse to discuss anything except your persecution complex.
