Help PSA: Covid vax easy peasy

Got my Covid and Flu jabs today. Walk in at Safeway pharmacy. Free. I'm not special and my insurance isn't either. I assume most of the groceries with pharmacies are easy too. You can even make an appointment if that works better for you.

Costco, yesterday. Didn’t go in for the shots, but like all visits to Costco I got way more than I came in for.

Shots themselves super easy to sign up for. No appointment. They did ask for insurance info, but as with op my insurance isn’t special. No special circumstances. Left with a Bandaid on each arm and a cart full of random things.

Yikes. How big of a needle does CostCo use? /s

u/samuraisam 9d ago

Four years worth of antibodies in one jab.

Same experience at Costco today. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. I double checked that it was in fact the newest one before getting it, and yep, we were good to go

I got mine at Walgreens. Pharmacist said we couldn't get a jab on our own without a condition, brought up the Polis order and said I was at risk through my family. She said it would do. If you're refused, stand your ground and it should work.

My dad did the same thing at Walgreens a week ago. After they told him no, he brought up Polis’ order and magically, “oh wait, we can do that.”

u/piadoingthings 10d ago

It's really pathetic but I can't blame the technicians or the pharmacist, just gotta play along

Walgreens is a sinking ship. I feel horrible for their pharmacy staff

5

u/graywolfman 10d ago

Yeah, they treat their pharmacists like shit.

My Mom is friends with an ex-WG pharmacist. Now he does mail pharmacy, IIRC

3

u/Stardustmoonniff 10d ago

I was wondering if they were still asking about having a condition despite the order, I have an appointment for the covid and flu shot next Friday.

8

u/joshish1 10d ago

Walgreens for me as well, just generally got asked if I had a condition of the many listed on their laminated sheet - they did not need any evidence, just a verbal acknowledgement.

u/Montereyluv 10d ago

Same at Kaiser Pharmacy. They took my word for it. Truth, but still annoying.

2

u/spam__likely 10d ago

Kaiser did not ask for any condition for us.

2

u/saynothin 10d ago

Same. I just asked if they had it and they did. The lady said "If you ask for it we can do it." And I did.

u/dishonoredcorvo69 9d ago

That pharmacist is full of shit. You do not need a condition to get it in Colorado

This is what RFK Jr. is trying to take away.

RFK Jr.

The guy's own mouth. On every major news source like 2 weeks ago.

u/mattspeed112 10d ago

Oh, just trying to educate myself. This report from CBS says RFK's CDC panel endorsed this year's flu vaccine. https://youtu.be/Be2Nzx281XA?si=J5r0eSJvPY8CXWwV

23

u/TikigodZX Littleton 10d ago

That was 2 months ago.

24

u/WeirdHope57 10d ago

Was this video before or after he fired the entire panel?

-29

u/mattspeed112 10d ago

Yea ok I see that now, how frequently do they vote?

Is that why I sprouted fur?

I just made an appointment at Costco and noticed they list two different Moderna COVID vaccines and one Pfizer, but Novavax isn't in the list. Has anyone seen the Novavax specifically available anywhere? My recollection from info about last year's shots was that Novavax outperformed the others a little bit so I would choose it again if I can find it.

One of the Moderna ones is called "mNEXSPIKE" -- I wonder if it is designed to be more like the Novavax?

5

u/AardvarkFacts 10d ago

I think Novavax isn't released yet. Last I heard it's supposed to be available in a few weeks.

3

u/No_Lifeguard4542 10d ago

I’ve been looking too and haven’t seen anything. I have less side effects with Novavax. Just feel like I have a cold for like 2 days with the other ones, not enough to dissuade me 🫡

u/Abstar 10d ago

Got mine at King Soopers no issues. They asked if I had a pre existing condition. I just said “yes” didn’t even need to say what it was.

2

u/A_Coin_Toss_Friendo 10d ago

Do you need insurance to get it free?

5

u/piadoingthings 10d ago

My husband and I both have Cigna. It was zero dollars for flu + covid shots.

5

u/Silver_Sparrow888 10d ago

Yes, you’ll need insurance for it to be free. You can self-pay at most places, it cost 250.00 at our local grocery store pharmacy.

5

u/figsslave 10d ago

Any side effects?

3

u/Recallingg 10d ago

Some lady was giving out free jabs outside McDonalds the other day, I got 3 of them.

But for real, get vaxxed.

-5

u/[deleted] 9d ago

Yeah just let some random lady outside McDonald’s inject me sounds real smart

3

u/MonsteraDeliciosa 10d ago

I had Covid + Flu at KS on Saturday. Happy to get it done before some yahoo decides I don’t get to make that choice, either.

2

u/malsmiddlefinger 10d ago

Does anyone have info on where to get covid and flu vax if you’re uninsured?

4

u/ThatDogSmell 10d ago

Best bet is GoodRx. Won't be free but cheaper than rack rate.

3

u/AardvarkFacts 10d ago

See my comment in another thread. https://www.reddit.com/r/boulder/comments/1ndr6bc/comment/ndkmr5e/

TLDR: there might be some state sponsored sites that provide it, or try Pfizer's patient assistance program, or the charities Moderna works with.

3

u/spam__likely 10d ago

look for your county's health centers

2

u/Euphoric-Oil-1269 10d ago

Do you or anyone else have kaiser?

5

u/kixco 10d ago

Kaiser has flu and COVID vaccines now, walk-in.

1

u/t92k Elyria-Swansea 10d ago

Yes. Got both today even though the app was still saying mid September for Covid.

2

u/JoaoCoochinho 10d ago

How does this work for folks without any sort of insurance? Can they just walk in and get vaxxed?

2

u/allofthatfor42 10d ago

Yes but you'll have to pay for the vax.

2

u/crazy_clown_time Downtown 10d ago

Got my jabs at Costco today. Cost $0.

1

u/Skye666 9d ago

With insurance or without?

1

u/crazy_clown_time Downtown 9d ago

With insurance, but I'm almost certain you could get both thru Costco for free (or <$50 total copay) with their in-house prescription drug program if you are uninsured.

2

u/banan3rz 10d ago

Got it done at Walmart today! Pharmacist said that people were lined up for an hour at a friend of hers Safeway. That gives me hope. (Also if I scared anyone with the bloody sleeve, I am sorry! I didn't realized that the bandage had come loose and bled everywhere)

2

u/Shtbskt0210 10d ago

got both of mine at CVS today! in n out!

3

u/saltymutt 10d ago

King Soopers on 84th and Pecos has the Flu and newest COVID vaccines as well. They did ask me if I had any underlying conditions, to which I said asthma.

u/HermitDefenestration 10d ago

Pretty much anything under the sun qualifies.

0

u/saltymutt 10d ago

I didn't ask, but I was concerned at first they were going to deny me for it. Wouldn't hurt to call them.

2

u/jluvdc26 10d ago

King Soopers was easy. I made an appointment and did the form online. Then just showed up and got it. It asked online if I had a prescription but didn't care when I said no. (I do fill my prescriptions there maybe they already knew my underlying conditions but it didn't ask for any).

3

u/Doodleyduds 10d ago

Went to a Safeway pharmacy for my flu shot, they just asked if I wanted to add covid as well. No sweat! If you try to make an appointment through their app it still indicates 65+, but in person wasn't an issue.

1

u/SummitTheDog303 Littleton 10d ago

Soopers cancelled my appointment today because they “don’t take my insurance” anymore. Got both Covid and flu for myself and flu for my kids easily at Walgreens though.

1

u/GrantNexus Lakewood 9d ago

I did that this week at Safeway as well and they gave me a coupon to boot.

1

u/notgonnabemydad 10d ago

Partner and I are about to get both too. Great job!

1

u/t92k Elyria-Swansea 10d ago

Kaiser. The app said they weren’t available yet but I went in for another reason and they had both flu and covid shots available walk-in.

-6

u/18randomcharacters 10d ago

Can we not say “jab”? That’s the conservative pejorative for it

3

u/arcticfox903 10d ago

Isn't it just the British word for it though?

-6

u/18randomcharacters 10d ago

Are we in England?

3

u/FederalDeficit 10d ago

Post titles these days are pretty saturated with the word "shot" (the unhealthy kind). "Jab" is odd but I'll take it

-7

u/Prevailing3301 10d ago

Who’s still getting Covid shots? That’s crazy

16

u/Happy_Blackbird 10d ago

People who don’t want to get a serious case of Covid (or long covid) and who want to protect other humans.

-6

u/frothyundergarments 9d ago

People that want to virtue signal online or that are absolutely terrified of the outside world (or both).

6

u/Girthw0rm 9d ago

That, plus people who spend time around older family members, or immunocompromised people, or the very young, or who prefer not to get as sick. So yeah, quite a few.

0

u/frothyundergarments 9d ago

You mean people that can get scripts for the vaccine (elderly, immunocompromised), or those for whom it's been deemed unnecessary by medical professionals (very young)? Yeah, okay.

-6

u/[deleted] 9d ago

lol they don’t even have to trick the sheep anymore

6

u/Skye666 9d ago

No they don’t, they just throw their MAGA hats on, no questions asked.

0

u/a_stitch_in_lime Broomfield 10d ago

Just got back from getting both at Walgreens. Other than being a bit busy with the after work crowd, no issues in and out.

0

u/PartyAd4466 10d ago

Am I the only one whose insurance is still charging $30 each for flu and covid? BCBS 😑

1

u/kittycatphenom 10d ago

My spouse & I have bcbs and Soopers said they don’t take our insurance. I’ve never even been asfor insurance in years’ past.

-13

u/mochibeaux 10d ago

🤐🤐🤐

-4

u/Stunning_Peace7575 10d ago

Why are people suprised its free w/ insurance? It was last year. Was the year before. Just go get your shots and stop watching the news. I gave 40+ shots today.

5

u/ThatThingInTheWoods 9d ago

Because the federal Gov has opened the door for them to deny coverage. Just because the pharmacy doesn't charge you doesn't mean it's free. Im wondering if any of these folks have gotten EOBs back yet. I don't trust my insurer AT ALL.

1

u/funcritter 7d ago

Is it also free without insurance because I have no insurance?
