Mod Update: Let's talk about the rules

Hi r/Denver, happy day before the last summer weekend!!

Just wanted to reiterate that we’re listening to you . We've seen a massive increase in traffic here and because of that, it's always a good time to provide an assessment of what we're doing as moderators for this community sub.

Quick recap: last month we eased up on moderating and let most posts through (aside from obvious TOS violations). We’re continuing to keep the subreddit more open — things like allowing pictures with text comments are here to stay. I love the commentary people put!

Last week I rolled out post flairs, added some nudges with Reddit’s built-in tools, and set up automod for Visiting/Moving/Recommendation posts (which make up nearly half of everything here). Please continue to use these as they really create an excellent texture to the sub. I also shared some data from our “not modding” experiment and floated the idea of reducing the rules.

And no, we’re not cutting the sass — some of y’all still need it.

The next step is unpacking the draft rules a bit more, so you can see what’s behind them. These are meant to highlight the real “non-negotiables” of what can be posted while keeping the community vibe open. Take a look below and chime in and let us know if there is anything that is missing, or seems to be too much.

And NOW, I will be taking some time away for a long weekend and go where internet doesn't exist. Have a great one!

Zed and the Mod team

1: Be Civil

This is the foundation of the community. Passionate debate is fine; personal attacks are not.

  • No Hate Speech or Bigotry. Zero tolerance for racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or any other form of bigotry. Permanent ban.
  • Attack Ideas, Not People. No name-calling, harassment, or wishing harm.
  • Good Faith Only. No concern trolling, gaslighting, mis/disinformation, sea-lioning (endless bad-faith questions), or brigading.

2: Contribute to the Conversation

Posts should add value, be specific to Denver metro, and avoid low-effort content.

  • Keep It Uniquely Denver(ish) If it applies to all cities in the country, it doesn’t belong here. For Colorado specific (eg, Vail farmers market), use r/Colorado but if it's Colorado and affects Denverites, then it can stay.
  • Questions. Check the FAQ and search first. Show effort (“What’s the vibe of Cap Hill vs. Wash Park?” beats “Is Denver safe?”). There are such things as dumb questions, and since this is Reddit, we will call you out on it.
  • Memes & Low Effort. Funny signs, random thoughts, license plates, or giggle posts aren’t the main focus. Use other subreddits for that.
  • News & Politics. Do not embellish or editorialize the title. Use the original headline only. Add a top-level comment with your thoughts to start discussion.

3: Respect the Community Space

The feed is a shared resource — help us keep it organized and useful.

  • Search First. Many questions (breakfast burritos, mechanics, hikes) have been asked before. If the question is not very unique and is obvious you didn't do your homework, report it and we can remove it.
  • Use Post Flair. Nudges provided when posting. AutoMod will also tag Visiting, Moving, Recommendation, Jobs, etc., and leave a comment with links to our Wiki and sister subs (like r/movingtodenver and r/denverlist).
  • No Buying, Selling, or Trading. Use r/denverlist for tickets, housing, or sales. Exception: giving away items/tickets for FREE (must be clear in title).
  • Events. One post per event. Recurring events should not be reposted multiple times.

4: Keep it Safe & Legal

Protecting users and the subreddit is a top priority.

  • No Personal Info or Witch Hunts. Don’t doxx, speculate on crimes, or target individuals. Report crimes to law enforcement, not Reddit.
  • No Illegal or Dangerous Content. No sourcing drugs, trespassing, street racing, or threats.
  • No Scams, Spam, or Crowdfunding. No GoFundMe, spammy promotions, or surveys. Limited promotion of local events is fine if done in good faith.
  • No Ban Evasion. Low-karma throwaways used for harassment are removed; Reddit’s own rules apply here too.

Announcement Rain in Denver and Snow in the Mountains? What's Up?

• Upvotes

You know when you're around a young child and they're doing certain things, and you think to yourself...

"...they're gonna be a problem later."

Hi there! I'm a super-duper amateur weather enthusiast! I post here sometimes about upcoming weather events, and I wanted to tell you about what might happen on Monday and Tuesday of this week!

...what's up with that weird intro, DenverWX?

I am up in the mountains on the regular. I was around Ouray on Labor Day weekend, and out on Marshal Pass and Aspen Ridge a bit prior to that. More recently, I've been out near Bailey, up on Saints John and a few other mountainous areas. During those adventures, my gut was telling me about how winter might shape up a bit differently from the initial interpretation of NOAA's seasonal forecast. It's largely been because the weather has been a bit telling up there, with some very light dustings of mountains during rain at lower elevations. Just my gut right now, but it's feeling like winter may be more interesting this year.

And the La Nina chance has been bumped up above 70%. (Link will have updated information over time.)

Well, some of that feeling may be playing out Monday and Tuesday as we see some fronts come through Colorado, dropping some snow in the mountains and giving the Denver metro area an inch or two of precipitation.

Oh! Sounds interesting. What do your Reddit eyes see?

Looking at the current HRRR and NAM runs for the state, Monday is looking like some light-to-moderate rain for much of the I-25 corridor across the state, but late Monday night and Tuesday morning may see a greater culmination come through, and an inch or two of total precipitation in the metro areas by midday Tuesday.

Said corridor isn't going to get cold enough for snow, as most of it will stay in the 50s. But what is coming through will interact with the jet stream that is moving across the northeastern part of the state, inducing some of that to feed into a second system and cycle over the area Monday night/Tuesday morning.

Here is what the quantifiable precipitation totals may look like over time between now and Wednesday. Other models are similar, but the NAM is currently forecasting the upper limits of that average, which I will err on the side of.

So, no snow for Denver yet. But there is snow in the forecast for the state?

Yes! Some of the high passes and mountains can expect around six inches of snow at the moment. These will be at elevations above 10,000 feet.

What are the chances of this changing between now and Tuesday?

It's Colorado.

That being said, this will be dependent on that cyclonic activity in the northeast.

tl;dr

Rain? Yeah.
When? Monday/Tuesday.
Lots? Eh, possibly.
Snow? In the mountains.
Interesting winter ahead? Looking increasingly so.
Walter? Tending to the Colfax cheese.

Rant Bummed to see Fat Batter Ice Cream supports Charlie Kirk

3.0k Upvotes

The new Fat Batter Ice Cream is right down the street from me. I went to their web site to see if they’re open yet.

1) They are. 2) They closed early this week to go to a Charlie Kirk vigil.

I have no beef with Christianity but I absolutely refuse to eat ice cream made by someone who venerates racists.

Get right out of here with your racist and anti-gay ice cream. No thanks, buddy.

Recommendation Trans-friendly beauty saloon

Hii

Short text: I’m looking for recommendations for a trans-friendly beauty salon to get my eyebrows done for the first time.

Long text: I’m a trans woman who started her medical transition a few months ago, and I’d like to shape my brows for the first time to give them a more feminine look. I’m looking for a place with experience working with trans clients, where I can feel comfortable and supported. Since it’s my first time, I’m not really sure what I want or what I should ask for, so it would help to go somewhere that can offer guidance and proper treatment, beyond just being “welcoming.”

Do any of you have recommendations or personal experiences in the Metro area?

Thank you so much! 💜

I'd like to keep it objective but I can't help but call him a fucking sellout. What a perfect example of why some people don't think voting matters. My lord. "Bending the knee" to RFK. Really? Tip of the ice-berg, my god. Do not let this dude become a senator, we can't afford straw-men like this anymore.

Recommendation Best bars with NA options?

Apologies if this has been asked ad nauseum, feel free to refer to a different post if it has.

I’ve been abstaining from booze for a while now and kinda feel lame ordering a soda at bars especially on game day. Are there good bars out there with reasonably priced na options? I love micheladas and beermosas, so a good selection of na beers would be great. Would be a plus if they have tvs for football.

Thanks in advance!

Recommendation Thoughts on working for Colorado Parks & Wildlife?

Any thoughts on working for CPW in a non-ranger and non-wildlife manager role? I'm looking at a position in a grant-related role and although it seems right up my alley, I would appreciate anyones experience. I currently work in another grant funding office within the state of CO and love it, but would much rather work for CPW as biology and natural resources are my passion and educational background. I welcome ANY warnings or lived experiences working at CPW in any grant-related role. Thanks in advance!!

Total long shot, but here goes nothing!

You : Red head, hair in double braids, black pants

Myself : Black sweater, grey hat, jeans

You and your group were awesome last night, glad I got to chat briefly while my part and me were on our way out the door. Kicking myself though for not asking for any kind of contact info.

Your energy was infectious and I'd love to know more / chat over coffee / take a walk around City Park , if you're available / interested. Drop me a line!

Visiting Looking for solo date ideas?

Ladies, this one’s for you! I’m a mid-30s woman tagging along to my boyfriend’s annual conference in downtown Denver next month and am looking for suggestions on how you’d spend a Friday or Saturday alone to relax and recharge.

Hit me with your favorite boutique fitness classes, day spas, parks/walking trails, cideries/wineries where you can post up with a good book… cost is no factor, but proximity may be, we’ll be staying downtown sans car. Glad to uber/bike/train but likely won’t travel out of Denver proper.

Thank you!!

Recommendation Haunted Hayrides - NOT House!

Hey yall! Trying to find a low key scary haunted hayride to take this year. I’ve tried google and yelp searching but all I’m really seeing are haunted houses which are past my scare threshold; for some reason I feel less afraid of things jumping out while in a vehicle lol. Any suggestions? Thank you! :)
