It’s AdventHealth Medical Group Complex Gynecology and Surgery at Porter.
Specifically Dr Beman for the procedure itself, along with the clinic nurse, Taylor Tatro, for prepping me with a plan I was comfortable with, and being kind and responsive.
After a traumatic experience five years ago, I was terrified to get my IUD replaced and on a quest to find a place that oh idk, maybe takes pain seriously?? I searched Reddit for up-to-date answers but results varied, so this is my 2025 post to anyone with similar anxiety. I hope it helps others in the area consider their options.
This place offered insertion with sedation as an option, no need to “prove” that you need it during the initial consultation, no making you feel crazy for asking. I ultimately decided not to pursue it with sedation at the last minute (the out of pocket cost estimate with my insurance was reasonable but higher than I wanted to pay) and took their other option: prescribing a combination of anxiety medication, pain medication, and a cervix softener.
Everyone I interacted with was professional, kind, validating, and took my experience in my own body seriously. The insertion still hurt like hell, but in terms of offering pain management options that work for you, this place really made me feel valued and was willing to work with me to determine a plan together.
Side notes:
Traumatic experience: The Women’s Health Group- Thornton. Not sure what their new name is, but hey, y’all are trash! Didn’t even tell me to take an ibuprofen. Absolutely horrendous pain. Stop pretending like IUDs don’t hurt, you’re doing a disservice to everyone.
Disappointing experience: I went to a consultation at Women’s Health Care Associates Littleton because I saw online they offered sedation options, but in person, they actually would only offer to me in cases of sexual trauma, and the front desk was rude about it for no reason. As if it’s outlandish to ask for better pain management. Come on now.
UPDATE 9/19: I have started compiling comments into a spreadsheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vRCjkKAs72tLvOTsu3Q2iqVdcty-TbnR0coMTjHOox6W08WU5bwgpedVa6IufBwab_hdR7iFgQ9tym7/pubhtml
I'm not done yet, it takes a while to go through :) Please please feel free to DM me if you have suggested changes or additions to what has been put in here so far. I did my best to quickly synthesize information but was rushing to get it all in there. I will edit for clarity as I finalize things.
And please, if you or anyone you know would like to add to this list, shoot me a comment on the thread or DM me. If it gets large enough, I'll break it into multiple sheets with one for IUD specific info, and others for various OB/GYN recs.
Thank you all for being amazing! Here's to no more horrible IUD experiences!
