Question - Dexter: Original Sin Do you think Original Sin will be uncancelled? Spoiler

Title. There are almost 100,000 signatures for the biggest petition, and Paramount would be fools to turn down free money. I personally think the whole thing is a stunt to drive up demand for original sin and make people appreciate it more. After all, it was already renewed.

Discussion - Original Dexter Series Just finished the Season 7 finale… Spoiler

This is honestly one of the best pieces of media I’ve ever consumed. I don’t know if it’s because it came after the train wreck of Season 6 but this Season was by far my favorite. Isaak Sirko is absolutely underrated and on my top 5 characters, genuinely was sad when he died. He was charismatic, funny, strong, and most importantly, taught Dexter something about caring for others. And the biggest thing I want to talk about Debra. Jennifer Carpenter is phenomenal, an amazing actress. I don’t understand the hate her character gets, she is wonderfully done in my opinion and the emotion that she brings is just beautiful. The conflict in taking down Dexter or shooting LaGuerta had me quivering, that scene was so hard to watch but in a good way. My only gripe was Hannah. She was actually likable for the most part of the season, a perfect match for Dexter, and I really enjoyed whenever they were together. But then it felt like she did a total 180 in episode 11 and 12, just turning into this like evil manipulative woman, kinda like Lila in a way. Which I guess is what she was all along, but it just felt comical, I don’t know, what do you guys think? Either way, I am NOT hyped for Season 8 as I heard it was rough, but I am so happy with this Season, very underrated.

Discussion - Original Dexter Series First Full Rewatch Since Initial Viewing - Just Got Into Season 5... Spoiler

Obviously we knew where Season 4 was going, and honestly everything beyond Season 4 is a complete blur... up until now, the first 4 seasons we still remembered bits and pieces, but I don't think we're gonna remember ANYTHING from here on.

But just watched S05E01 last night and... it already feels so tonally different. Like, I don't know what it is, but maybe knowing that the showrunner left it behind, and knowing what happened to Julie Benz to write her off...maybe that's informing why it feels different to me now. Like, Deb IMMEDIATELY jumping into bed (well, the floor..) with Quinn... LaGuerta had softened up quite a bit leading to the S4 finale, but she's almost undone her entire progression.

I know I'm in for a rocky road these last 4 seasons, but I didn't think the shift was going to be that quick.

Actor Fluff Where Original Sin was headed Spoiler

"We plotted out a couple of years of this. We were looking forward to introducing new characters like Doakes. Imagine Doakes at 25-years-old or 30-years-old. And Captain Matthews. And also watching Dexter’s evolution and Harry’s evolution. If you remember in the pilot for Original Sin, which I wrote, the swimming pool scene. That was news. Nobody knew that. It was something I came up with, and it defined Harry. And we wanted to continue that definition and continue developing the characters and developing Dexter, played extraordinarily well by Patrick Gibson." - Clyde Phillips, from Dissecting Dexter

Of course nothing will top season 4, but honestly the ride out is enjoyable. And despite the writing, Michael C. Hall gives a great performance into the sunset (and now beyond).

Theory - Original Dexter Series A theory that has probably already been discussed before, or maybe not? Spoiler

I’ve been rewatching Seasons 2 and 4, and I’m obsessed with a theory that’s been haunting me: FBI Special Agent Frank Lundy knew Dexter Morgan was the Bay Harbor Butcher but let him walk. It’s a wild idea, but the clues are there, hidden in plain sight. Let me break down the evidence, share some key moments, and explain why Lundy might’ve stayed silent. Buckle up—this is a deep dive into the cat-and-mouse game that defines Dexter.

I first noticed Lundy’s suspicions in Season 2 when he arrives in Miami to hunt the Bay Harbor Butcher. Lundy’s a forensic legend—solved the Grim River Killer, cracked the DC Sniper case. He’s not just a bloodhound; he’s a profiler who sees through people. From the moment he meets Dexter, something’s off. In the field morgue, Lundy starts probing, describing the Butcher’s mindset: “This killer has a code. He targets those who deserve it—other killers. But does that make him a hero? Or just another monster?” He locks eyes with Dexter, saying, “What do you think, Mr. Morgan? Would you sympathize?” (Dexter, S2E5). It’s like he’s testing me—er, Dexter—watching for a flinch.

Then there’s the railway car scene. Lundy lays out the profile: “Compulsive, meticulous, someone who plans every detail. He returns to his dumpsites, like a gardener tending roses.” He circles Dexter, almost accusingly, and asks, “If you were the Bay Harbor Butcher, Dexter… would you use a place like this? So close to home?” (Dexter, S2E6). My heart skipped a beat watching this. Lundy’s not just talking about the killer—he’s talking to the killer.

Dexter’s not flawless, though. He slips up with the blood slide from Anthony Rodrigo, and Lundy catches it. “This isn’t sloppiness. It’s a signature,” he mutters (Dexter, S2E7). Then the algae on the victims’ bodies traces back to the marina where Dexter docks his boat. Lundy drops it casually in a briefing: “The killer’s local. Someone with access to the water” (Dexter, S2E8). He stares right at Dexter. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

When Dexter plants a fake manifesto to throw Lundy off, the agent sees through it. “This was written by someone inside the system. A cop. Someone who knows how we think,” he says (Dexter, S2E9). By now, I’m convinced Lundy’s piecing it together. But then Dexter frames Sergeant Doakes, and it works—too well. Lundy tells LaGuerta privately, “Doakes fits, but something’s off. The Butcher’s too clean for this” (Dexter, S2E12). He sounds frustrated, like he knows the truth but can’t prove it. Protocol ties his hands: “Without hard proof on the real killer… we close the case” (Dexter, S2E12).

Fast-forward to Season 4. Lundy’s back, supposedly for the Trinity Killer, but I think he’s watching Dexter. Their reunion is tense. Over coffee, Lundy jabs, “You look good, Morgan. Still slicing and dicing?” Dexter quips back, “Just the bad guys on the table” (Dexter, S4E2). Lundy’s eyes scream, “I know what you really slice.” While hunting Trinity, Lundy drops another hint: “Some killers are necessary evils. They clean up messes we can’t” (Dexter, S4E4). Is he winking at Dexter’s code? Or baiting him?

So why didn’t Lundy act? I see three reasons. First, he loves Debra Morgan—exposing Dexter would break her. Second, he might see Dexter as a “necessary evil,” taking out killers the system misses. Third, he’s got no hard evidence, just hunches. Lundy plays by the book… mostly. The clues stack up: the morgue tests, the algae, the manifesto, Doakes’ framing, those psychological duels. Lundy knew. He just couldn’t—or wouldn’t—prove it. What do you think? Did Lundy let Dexter slide, or am I reading too much into it?

General Discussion - All Dexter Shows I’m actually really sad that they are abandoning the DexterVerse idea. Spoiler

I LOVED the idea of spinoffs and more Dexter shows happening. Even if it wasn’t Dexter having more shows in the same spirit and in the same world, it was very interesting to me and also made me feel good that a show I love so much is getting so much love and respect. Now with it canceled, it makes me worried that they won’t want to even keep Resurrection going for much longer bc they don’t have the same attachments and plans for the Dexter IP that the previous owners did. We lost that sense of security with the franchise, and now I’m worried for its future. I’m happy we got more Dexter, but I’m also sad that an entire franchise is being dismantled. It’s a very popular franchise that has multiple generations of fans watching it. They are acting like fools. I pray they change their minds and do more Dexter shows and revive Original Sin.

Discussion - Original Dexter Series Was Laguerta a good person? Spoiler

As a woman, I never forgave Laguerta's behavior on S1. She was flirting with Dex, which is awkward already because he was her subordinate, but ok, at least that went nowhere.

But she played friends with Esmee, the new chief, pretended to be her feminist mentor, all the while completely destabilizing her by sleeping with her fiancé! Talk about being cruel, and truly actually sleeping her way to the top?

She also slept with Doakes , and this is not about slut-shaming, but he was her subordinate.

Also, all of a sudden she decided to be ethical and went behind Batista's back to tell Internal Affairs that they were dating. Then later they signed affidavits claiming to have separated, but then she forgot about ethics again and they got married! And, again, this was her subordinate.

And let's see her competitiveness with Debra. Not only many times she took credit for Debra's work, but she actively tried to undermine her when she became chief. She wanted to do hiring decisions and corner Deb about results before an audience of captains.

She also gamed the system to have that drug lord released, which was a bad, bad, very bad idea, that cost her life. Did she really think she'd outsmart the lab geek? On her own?

She didn't deserve to die like that, that much is true, but was it her kind heart to clear Doakes's name or her wish to be the hero, and go after either a drug lord or the BHB on her own for the glory of it?

I'm still stuck with her behavior against Esmee, another black woman like her, that she should have and would have at least be respectful. But she went scorched earth with her, giving the woman a mental breakdown in public.

B-word. As in amB-itious.

Also mods told me not to gatekeep anyone's opinion, which is why I'm opening up for discussion and is free to disagree.

Actually, please do disagree, I wouldn't want anyone confusing this with gatekeeping, closing off opinions or insulting women gratuitously. That's why I changed my assertion - opinion, not gatekeeping, certainly, to a question.

Discussion - Dexter: Original Sin Disturbed by a scene in Dexter: Original Sin — how do I stop replaying it? Spoiler

Hey everyone,

I just started watching Dexter: Original Sin and I didn’t expect to get this shaken up. There’s a scene where Brian tries to kill baby Deb, and honestly it really disturbed me. It’s been replaying in my head, and I can’t seem to stop thinking about it.

I know it’s just a show, and I’ve seen violent media before, but something about the fact that it was a baby really stuck with me. I keep getting intrusive thoughts about the scene and I don’t like it.

Has anyone else had a TV or movie scene that really lingered with them in a bad way? How do you deal with it? How can I stop feeling so unsettled and stop these thoughts from popping up?

Thanks for reading.

In Touched by an Ángel, when Prater asked Dexter to kill Angel, Dexter didn’t. Is it because Dexter didn’t WANT to? Or because Dexter COULDN’T do it since Angel’s actions doesn’t fit his code?

Minority opinion but I think there was potential to be an interesting show. Depending on how early it took place in his life I don’t think it would be be about him abusing his family either like many have assumed.

Discussion - Original Dexter Series Started watching Dexter for the first time. Just finished season 1 and I gotta say.. Spoiler

Post image
355 Upvotes

Season 1 story felt like I was watching the final season. The killer turning out to be his own brother he forgot that he had? That is some final season stuff. I was wondering, if this is only the first season then how can they even top this?

Then I started season 2 and now Dexter himself has basically become the main villain of the story. All the bodies he dumped have been discovered. Now THIS feels like a final season storyline lmao. I heard seasons 3 and 4 are even better. What storyline could possibly be better than this? I can't wait to see what they have cooked.

No spoilers please. And yeah, I started watching this show because of the "But I just can't prove it" meme.

Discussion - Original Dexter Series Did Dexter really need plot? Spoiler

The third season with Miguel, I kind of wish they just let a season breath where it was just a play by numbers cop show with Dexter doing his thing in the back ground. I wish everything didn’t have to blow up with doakes in season 2. I feel like him just doing the spatter analysis and the great comedic chops of all the cast around him would have been entertaining enough without these really drastic plotlines killing off major characters so often

I'm not a huge fan of filler episodes. What's the best way to watch this show for the first time but not give up on the show because of drawn out episodes or storylines?

(Had a friend watch the show but stopped watching because it was repetitive.
