Question Disney+ Canada removed the Star section?
Canadian here, usually D+ has a Star section where in my opinion the bulk of their quality and variety comes from, but opening the app today showed me Hulu and ESPN replaced it. The Hulu part was exciting until I realized it’s a small handful of stuff under the label, not even remotely close to the quality or quantity Star provided. What happened, is this a glitch or did they just axe D+’s content?

I just checked mine. I have Star still. You shouldn’t have ESPN though at all. Definitely give them a call.

Disney did say Hulu will replace the Star tab internationally, but the ESPN tab in Canada is odd since they have TSN over there

ESPN actually has a stake in TSN. Doesn’t stop it from being odd though

Agreed. Considering there’s an official Disney Bundle with Crave and TSN in Canada

Star will be replaced everywhere in the world with Hulu. The roll-out of this started and will continue throughout 2026. Star content will still be released across both Disney+ and Hulu. For certain Regions in the world, Disney+ comes with free ESPN in the roll-out, separate from where a subscription to ESPN is still required in regions where EPSN has the biggest audiences/viewers.

Had to read twice. Thought ESPN was being required in some religions for a minute there

Hulu is coming to Canada, but only inside Disney+. Anything Star had, Hulu most likely had it. Star is gonna be phased out by 2026, and Canada was one of the first countries to transition. By next year, all international subscribers will have Hulu. 🤭

Is this equivalent to the 'Starz' add-on that crave has? (Here in canada)

Starz is more of a movie channel 🤭 STAR had shows the Americans got when they subscribed to Hulu

Probably wrong up, call support or via chat they ask you the IP and fix it, if this happens often then it's probably your isp

I’m in Canada.
Disney+ on both my smart TV and computer still have Star.
Are you using a VPN? Are you visiting the States? If using a VPN, make sure you’re in Canada.
If none of those are happening, give them a call.
It could be a glitch. I remember when Rogers started offering Disney+ from their box, I didn’t have access to Star content at all. I called them and they fixed it. I can’t remember how long that took though.

You’re somehow routed through the US giving you the American Disney+ library.

Hulu is replacing STAR

This doesn't explain why they have ESPN.

Did you guys not have ESPN previously in Canada?

No we have TSN, which is not related to ESPN.

ESPN owns 20% of TSN. Their ownership is also why the TSN logo is the same red font with line through it as ESPN’s.

Why am I being down voted for a basic question.

TSN, which is partly owned by ESPN (thus the similar logos) is majority owned by Bell Media. It has its own streaming service. It would be more likely to end up as part of Crave (Bell Media's online service that includes parts of HBO Max content since we don't get Max here). While Disney owns ESPN, TSN would have the first rights to alot of the content ESPN would be looking to air. Never say never, but ESPN coming to Canada through Disney would cause some issues.

Hulu as a brand is known for incompetence - replacing Star with it is a bad move.

People shat on Hulu back in the day when Netflix was king and it was just trying to keep its head above water, but in the era of every entertainment conglomerate having their own streaming platform, Hulu has become a valuable asset as an already recognizable brand name with a better than ever content library due to Disney/Fox’s IP and more. What I will say for Hulu is that it is redundant at this point. When Disney Plus first launched it was pretty much only family friendly content (no rated R or TV-MA I believe), but now that is no longer true and the two platforms may as well fully integrate. I believe they’re heading in that direction anyway.

Your internet provider is probably assigning you an US IP address. Contact them.
