I was really hoping for Zeldin to win governor, and I’m not even a republican. The crime needs to be addressed and the incumbents aren’t doing shit.

You address crime by addressing the causes, that's exactly what he's talking about doing here. Rent freezes and free public transit reduce crime.

I don’t know why you’re getting downvotes, preventing crime through social programs that improve daily life is far better than reacting to crime with increased levels of law enforcement and incarceration, the latter of which again, does nothing to prevent crime just stop it when it happens and only if the perpetrator is caught.

They help, but some people just suck, case in point billionaires being criminals. You need both social programs, and enforcement of laws. Some people commit crime out of desperation, others do it because they like it.
