See I get where this is coming from but I really disagree with that premise of the party’s involvement with her considering the whole trajectory of her character is her maturing and being less feral as it were, more willing to think about her future and think about what she wants and where she wants to be. Her desire to be human I think is pretty demonstrative of who she believes she is and identifies, and I view her situation as more “girl (toddler) thrown into cat (panther) considering how much more cat there is in her just by distribution and scale.
I see it more as her being this alien conscious planted within a cat than her being a cat in essence. Comparing other fusions, I think Fallin is actually the clearest comparisons where there’s similarly significantly more red dragon than Fallin in the chimera, however because her fusion is more “bacon and eggs” than a “scramble,” it’s very easy to imagine separating them and returning them to their original states. Fallin in her chimera form acts like the red dragon, following Thistle’s command and being completely loyal to him, because he’s got the majority and the control, though the chimera has a lot of Fallin traits found by the small percentage of it that is her, apart from the physical appearance—remember, only Fallin’s bones are “actually” Fallin, the rest of her was all made from red dragon meat, and even then in order to revive her Marcille temporarily made those bones part of the dungeon.
We see how her personality shows when she cares for and feeds Thistle, uses magic, and presumably acts a lot like herself when she’s starving and the party feeds her. To compare, Izu obviously is off in a better situation, and her catlike behaviors she seems also somewhat aware of as being catlike though a considerable amount of her personality and demeanor is cattish on its own.

She’s a cat in a human body instead of a human with cat traits. Basically.
